Rick was essentially saying how intelligence is purely a matter of personal character, and that concrete biological things (such as race, IQ, brain size, etc) aren't factors. Shouldn't you agree with this, unless you're a race realist?

            Anonymous

Believing that people may be advantaged by genetics or luck of the draw isn't necessarily a racist view. We can't know for sure what the writers intend before we see the end of the episode and whatever conclusion Rick and Jerry come to.

Modern Liberalism is influenced by the Rawlsian view that people are not necessarily entitled to the fruits of their natural born talent on account of not having earned it, which would naturally include intellectual aptitude.

I have to admit, I'm very eager to see why exactly Rick killed himself in Jerry's body. The physical and biological ramifications of mind-body transference are very overlooked and has always interested me as a sci-fi concept. R&M actually did this back in season 2 where Rick's old man mind couldn't function in a younger teenage body.

I don’t know if it’s what the show is going for but it’s impossible to prove everyone else’s experience of consciousness is the same as our own. People have already kinda proved genetics relate to how we perceive physical pain, and endurance/exertion between born runners and regular joes depending on your lactate threshold which no amount of good choices can alter. Same reason why some people find it easy to do marathons and other people find it a challenge just to get out of bed, not just lifestyle choices but differences in chemicals released in the brain and in each individual muscle and shit.
Rick could’ve just gone from his own brain with limitless energy and motive and drive to one whose hardware is wired to be sluggish and low energy and depressed all the time, and he’s never experienced in his lifetime a consciousness where just existing is so chemically taxing in comparison to Rick’s being so chemically rewarding. Like a drug crash, or more like a reverse drug-high

having listened to this the voice isn't actually that bad but I would describe it on that thin line of you don't really notice it but its different enough to give you a weird feeling at the back of your mind

      Anonymous

yeah the first episode was distracting, seem that they fix the line deliver this time

      Anonymous

There are some lines where he really does sound identical, but he doesn't stay in that voice for more than a couple lines. I roll my eyes a little bit when people claim they hear no difference whatsoever, but when he told MPB something like "you're an adult, read the room and figure it out" I'd legitimately have no idea it wasn't Roiland. I think a little more direction in the recording booth would smooth out his tone and inflection somewhat so even if the sound is slightly different, the feel is the same.

Rick once again utterly blown out by Jerry. Love to see it.

He means it in a 'I worked to become a genius' way the same way people work to become professional doctors and shit.

He was still ALWAYS working with a Super-Genius hardware brain rather than a normie brain though, so it's essentially a moot point.

      >>rick said he BECAME a genius

You can tell he clearly lying somewhat to get an edge on Jerry. In the flashback, he was clearly a very gifted kid. Not super-genius tier yet, but still far ahead of most his age.

what does it mean to put your mind in another brain?

      Anonymous

in the show they scan an image of one's persona, put it in the other brain and viceversa, as if they were computer hard drives
in reality it means nothing since the hardware is the software

imagine you're (you) and then all of a sudden, all the experiences you've had and your thought patterns were sapped away and replaced with someone else's who was so fundamentally different from you that you have trouble even contemplating how such a person exists.
You're still (you), you just now have the memories and thought patterns of that other person

Somehow Rick's tech can quantify and transfer consciousness. The brain is simply the physical apparatus for controlling the body's nervous system.

Who knows, maybe Jerry experiences anxiety more intensely than Rick could handle making him buckle under his own trauma.

      Anonymous

My bet would be the former.
His brain is trained to suppress his mind's incredible self-loathing, so like

Who knows, maybe Jerry experiences anxiety more intensely than Rick could handle making him buckle under his own trauma.

said, when he got stuck with Jerry's brain it's like being at Challenger Depth and cabin pressure giving out. Jerry's brain couldn't filter out the suicidal tendencies quickly enough because Jerry's mind never got anywhere that upset before, let alone as the baseline level of self-loathing.

        Anonymous

I see. So for example if an adrenaline junkie were to change minds with a more restrained person he would become unable to do the shit he usually does since their new brain is not burned out on chemicals and it would become too much to handle while the other person would suddently feel numb towars everything even thought they themselves have never experienced that adrenaline burnout before.

      Anonymous

I'm guessing it's as if you were trying to run some next gen videogame ( rick's mind ) on an i486 laptop ( jerry's brain ), so rick's mind just collapsed on itself given it doesn't have enough resource to do whatever the frick it needs to do, coping apparently

      Anonymous

the difference is that Ricks mind was still his own, just running at a slower, but still impressive capacity.
w=When Rick switched with Jerry, Rick's quick thinking and infinite knowledge of the multiverse just plopped into a regular human mind that is not equipped to handled the experiences that Rick's mind held.

      Anonymous

Honestly, even though you can hear subtle differences, I think the replacement is very passable.

        Anonymous

The replacement is close enough to perfect to the point where you really can't complain.

The problem the show has had for several seasons is the fricking writing. And that hasn't changed. And with everything about Roiland being totally disconnected from the show's writing replacing him as the voice actually doesn't fix the problems with the show or any of the production. The fact that "it feels like nothing has changed" I'm sure they think is an achievement but they haven't actually fixed the most significant problem with the show itself.

          Anonymous

The writing can't really be helped. Roiland might not have been a participant in the writing department since around season 2, you could at least feel the man could've one day got himself involved if he wanted to or actually invited people who are more “his guys” to write just like Harmon did, but now that Roiland is ousted from the show, it's basically in its status quo now and doubt it's ever gonna change unless the writing gets major backlash, which I don't think is likely outside of ignorable complaints.

      Anonymous

Seems like it would be an obvious twist. Jerry's influence causes the wind to call him a loser, attracted the talking cat to him, lets him pass on his brainwaves to Morty. Curious if Rick Prime is going to use Jerry Prime for some nefarious purpose.

  28. 8 months ago
    Anonymous

So Rick exerts so much megamind brain power suppressing his knowledge of dark truths about the universe that he goes blue screen of death when he has to run it on a less powerful system?
Or Rick is so disgusted with Jerry's brain that he thinks it's not an existence worth living for even a second?
Or Jerry's brain is fighting demons 24/7 that even Rick can't handle? I hope it's this one because it's funniest.

      Anonymous

The way I interpret it is that despite being pathetic, Jerry likes himself. Rick may be intelligent but he fricking hates himself, so when he switches minds he ends up being pathetic AND self-loathing, he has nothing to hold onto anymore so he ends up killing himself.

        Anonymous

For a man who bases his entire self identity on being smart, losing that is hell itself.

Interesting interpretation. Really similar riff on those, since his alcoholism and intelligence are the only things he has to console or perceive himself positively, maybe losing them both is like getting a shot of pure, unadulterated clarity.

          Anonymous

Also let's not forget that this started because Rick was dumb enough to take jerry up on the challenge instead of ignoring him despite seeing Jerry as below him

            Anonymous

Jerry has always had the ability to screw with Rick/Rick's stuff now that I think about it. His ability to be utterly mundane and pathetic is the kryptonite to whatever sci-fi nonsense he's presented with, usually to his own personal detriment.
