Star wars went from the most popular pop culture franchise of all time to c tier movies.
Proof is that the only merchandise they sell is from the first 2 trilogies. I don't even remember the name of half the new cast while I know who Greedo is.

I think if nuTrek is successful enough that they keep shoveling that shit out, there's no way Power of the Rings is going to be a failure in the eyes of Amazon.

        Anonymous

The difference is that they aren't spending over a billion dollars on nuTrek. Amazon spending ridiculous amounts of money suggests that either they are inexperienced about TV and film production and are spending way too much money or they're trying to buy marketshare in the streaming wars which is already an overcrowded market. There's no way this show makes back its money even if it ends up being a Games of Thrones level success.

I mean, GOT has probably made billions for HBO, so it can easily make back that money. Problem is that it won't. Nobody wants to watch some Muttmerica diversity world with slight medieval aesthetics.

GOT worked because it created a believable world that normies could enjoy and 'escape" to. LOTR looks like a modern Californian settings and not even the biggest advocates for social justice want to watch that.

Cope. Never said I liked the trailers but people seething at them is getting pretty cringeworthy at this point. It's like the Tolkien fandom is trying really hard to hate it honestly. Sure they took some creative freedoms but anyone who actually read the Silmarillion will notice that they hint to some pretty obscure lore which indicates that at lest some writers know their shit about Tolkiens world. You expected an all white cast in a billion dollar series produced in 2022? Well sorry to break it to you but that's just naive and childish. All I'm saying is showrunners know how the market works and the outcry created will most likely just lead to everyone (seething Tolkien fans included) watching it anyway or becuse of it in order to be able to participate in the online debate. Is it going to be a good adaption or just hot garbage? I don't know but it sure as hell will make bank for amazon.

But even a few years ago, people in the industry were calling it out: https://www.sltrib.com/artsliving/2019/02/10/scott-d-pierce-fx/

Those automatic previews that start playing on Netflix, that for a long time you couldn't even disable? Even those were being counted as a view. They've upped it to a few minutes now, but at one point you could get counted as "viewing" the witcher by watching the intro.

Tim Allen not bing Buzz was probably the main reason it flopped so hard and that happens for the same reason the kiss was included and lauded as a triumph in cinema.

This show WILL suck sorry your mashed potato brain can't figure this out.

If you can't instantly tell the direction or quality of the story off what they are promoting after nearly a decade of it then your just a hopeless consumer and you opinions are worthless.

No, the opinions of a hopeless consumer are what matters most to the success of a product. Amazon doesn't run on the approval of a handful of sexless polcel freaks, it runs on money.

It won't be successful either, it looks cheap, their writers are inexperienced, and they openly admit to not following the lore.

Nobody who actually enjoys Tolkien work will like this, they are banking on the "inclusiveness" to bring in the miniscule croud that actually wants that shit.

I honestly really doubt that. You wanting it to fail won't make it fail magically. It's probably going to be an above mediocre show judging by the material released so far. It honestly looks better than the hobbit trilogy (low bar I know but still). Not being mid is enough to keep people captivated nowadays since there is a sea of mediocrity nowadays. Game of thrones was absolutely gay shit and still everyone watched it. I watched first two seasons as a fantasy crazed teen and really wanted to like it but was absolutely bored the whole time. Normies will eat up everything that even slightly sticks out and the money in this alone is able to achieve that

Sadly its been a massive hit with the zoomers, shit is #1 or #2 in the netflix charts in most countries, and casting calls have gone out for new characters, so a new season or two will be on the way. Somehow.
I can forgive some shit in a show, but damn how did they manage to have a main character that makes utterly idiotic decisions. Like secretly barely securing a zombie for an experiment that promptly breaks free and murders her best friend. Or my personal favourite of forgetting that you told your daughter to sneak off the ship and onto a zombie infested island on her own because it would be safer for her. And then releasing a giant fricking alligator onto said island.

As usual, incels will make up fake numbers in order to claim it failed. Or they will acknowledge the numbers but claim that it failed by some intangible metric only intelligible to incels. The Last Jedi, for example, was the biggest film of the entire year, a huge critical and commercial success. Yet, since incels were triggered by it, they claim it was a flop. If you show them the numbers they will then go on to claim that it "crashed the franchise", even though SW is bigger than ever right now and has like 10 new shows coming out.
        Chuds ALWAYS lie.

Tolkien only described those individuals as having long hair because it was a notable feature, not that it was common

He practically never talked about hair length except on the rare occasions because these things are a notable feature that allow you to differentiate from the rest in a descriptive manner.

The topic of the sentence was their love of sailing and the ocean. That was the super special part about them that he wanted to emphasize, not the long hair.

Jesus frick you suck at reading. The point of that sentence was to highlight how Gandalf's "long white hair" made him look like an ancient, old man king compared to everyone else there. It wasn't just a throwaway description of him having long hair, but also that it was white which lent it a different, more ancient look than everyone else there.

The fact that there is never a mention of any elf having notably short hair should be enough to clue you in that buzz cuts in Tolkien are moronic, but I guess you need hair descriptions on every single elf to ever appear or else you can't accept that the default for them was hair on the longer side.

Like when Galadriel gives Legolas a bowstring and it's just described as "Elf hair". Gee, Elf hair when the majority had "normal" hair according to you would be one shitty bowstring.

idk why some of you have convinced yourselves that this will be bad, probably because you want it to be

The pronunciation of names and places by the actors are practically perfect, both in the footage and in interview. No other Tolkien adaptation has even tried to get these details right
The cast also come across genuinely knowledgeable about both their characters and the place in the story/world
There is also going clearly going to be alot of poetry and singing in this, lots of the cast can actually sing, like a dozen of them and really well
The Tolkien Estate personally appointed the Tolkien language translator for the show to make sure it was done properly. They also got one of the best dialect coaches in the world to train the actors in performing quenya, sindarin, Khuzdul, etc

You may sneer at these as simply 'details' but all this language and music stuff is what Tolkien actually cared about, It also indicates that many other details would likely have been given equal attention
You homosexuals have talked about 'muh red flags' for months but it's simply not materialised, in fact the opposite

I know OP is a baiting, but how the frick can people have these two opinions at the same time.
    >Amazon is evil, a representation of all that's wrong with capitalism and is going to destroy our lives
    and
    >I will be purchasing and supporting this amazon show in order to btfo the alt-right
It's like leftists will hit a switch in their brain to start sucking corporate wiener when it comes to anything entertainment related.

    Where’s the audience?
Fantasy nerds who don’t care about life or good writing?
You’re not going to get the GoT audience because there’s no rape nor people dying every other episode.

It’s just shit and has nothing going for it.

I invite you to go to comic con once in your life and marvel at the amount of consoomers. It's not a stereotype, some people actually live to consume products of IP's they used to like as children, despite its quality.

There may be some people left who haven’t received the message that this is entirely antithetical to Tolkien, maybe.
If even reddit fangroups are shitting on it tho? Going to be a lonely few autists out there saying this consoomption is worth anything.

It doesn't matter. Consoomers don't care about lore, they only care about surface level traits of an IP. This is why Star Wars is succesful. Sure, there's an entire universe full of stories that could be built on top of existing lore, but that's not what consoomers want. They want to see darth vader again. They will crave to see the same characters, over and over again, until they die. It doesn't even matter if he acts in character, out of character, is played by a woman for no reason, as long as they can see the darth vader mask on the big screen they will continue to consume the product. The faster you can come to terms with this reality, the easier it is to avoid IP's you were attached to as they start moving towards that audience.

            >Consoomers don't care about lore, they only care about surface level traits of an IP
            Sort of like chuds?

Chuds will literally scour an entire wiki page to justify why a character isn't canonically black, you're delusional if you think the people that are obsessed with an IP don't care about the lore.

                >Consumers will literally scour an entire wiki page to justify why a character can be canonically black, you're delusional if you think the people that are obsessed with being woke care about anything.

                >implying the main argument against a character being black isn't "it's fantasy who cares" most of the time
You're going outside and touching grass too much, come back when you've seen the brainrot yourself.

                >"it's fantasy who cares"
And thats why they flop, people who are interested in an IP care and those people would have been then one to see it.

.... which is why no MCU movie has made a billion, because blind consumers are the key demo.

Yes. Blind consoomers are the majority. That's why the MCU have made billions.

                Anonymous

Yes. Blind consoomers are the majority, they mainly care about characters that are memorable in pop culture, and don't care about anything else that might have to do with the character, only its presentation on the big screen. This is my entire argument and you're agreeing with it so far.

If you were right then the MCU would still be making money instead of disappointments and out right bombs.

If the IP in tv format was untouched since the trilogy, maybe.
But consoomers have already been burned by the Hobbit since, once burnt twice shy and all that.

            >Star Wars
Made for consumption in the first place. All I’ll say.

And no, the 0.05% of Tolkien society idiots aren’t enough a fraction to make a return on this.
If production costs were a few million, maybe. Not at this price point though.
