JDF deserved better from this world. He tried the acting thing and it didn't work out for him beyond PR. I don't understand why he wasn't able to parlay that into at least shitty direct to video action flicks. He had charisma, and his impressive martial arts abilities should have been a big selling point for casting directors. Even after having seen them countless times, watching his unmorphed fight scenes impress me to this day.
Then he seemingly gave up on acting and put his focus solely on martial arts. He tried to make a run at MMA, but that never gained any traction either despite him being far more qualified than some people who have been given a shot on a big stage. I don't know why someone like Dana White who saw the value of CM Punk as a draw wouldn't think having the Green/White Ranger in UFC would be good for business. Especially given that JDF is a lifelong martial artist who could have probably backed up his hype with a win.
After the MMA thing didn't work out JDF went all in on the convention life, which I have to imagine ate away at him to some degree. That's not to say he didn't enjoy doing them or love meeting his fans, but the guy had so much talent that was being wasted on signing autographs. It's depressing to think you can work so hard and become so good at something, and still come up short. I know some will probably say being the face of a beloved worldwide franchise is a pretty big deal and more than most people get in this world, but he had the potential to do bigger and better things. The people making MMPR recognized that right away. They said this kid is special. And they were right because the love for his character wouldn't have endured for 30 years and his death wouldn't have sparked such an outpouring of emotion from people all over the world otherwise. It makes me very sad that he didn't get to realize his full potential, and in the end saw his life as being of such low value that he chose to end it.

I certainly do. Growing up, my mom always told me what a no good asshole my dad was and she would always take me to my grandma's on weekends that were his visitation weekends and tell me that he said he didn't want to see me that weekend.
It wasn't until I was an adult that learn that never waived visits. He actually battled with my mom in court for years over her withholding visitation rights. In fact, I even remember a few times the cops came with him to pick me up. My mom told me back then the cops came because my dad had committed traffic infractions and they followed him to our house. My told just told me not to worry about it. I learned as an adult that they were there to force my mom to turn me over to him.
I felt really bad when he died (2020, Covid), because I hadn't seen him in years. When I was about 15 or so, I started just telling him I didn't want to go with him for the weekend. He would call me about twice a week, but I'd only answer about 1/10 times. I thought he was just a deadbeat.

Not during this arc. They built a machine to turn the kids back to normal age, but only Billy got to use it before Goldar destroyed it. Billy stayed through most of Zeo, though not as a ranger, he just hung around the command center as a supporting character. He got written off near the end of Zeo after he'd already walked off set by saying he went to live with the Alien Rangers.
In hindsight, I don’t know how I feel about the mini arc with whether or not Billy was the Gold Ranger. If he was, there would have been no reason to keep it a secret from the others since they knew he missed being a Ranger.

I never liked it when they fought out of suit, like when I was a kid I would always ask why they didn't just morph. Apparently though alot of people liked the civilian form fights.
In MMPR, mostly everyone was trained in martial arts, so the fights were actually cool and impressive. Later they stopped caring if the actors were trained, so the fights were less impressive and they used stunt doubles a lot more.
