It looks nice, but do you think it'll be a big hit like Jawbreakers or BRZRKR, or stay within a niche that doesn't even make a dent in the big two's already tiny sales, like Kamen America?

Congrats to the guy for getting his comic out there but I really wish people would spread awareness that western comics has more to offer than superhero stuff. Feels like nothing else gets attention here.
>western comics has more to offer than superhero stuff
fricking this. The reason manga is so fricking successful is because there is a manga for fricking everything and all those different mangas have different tones. You can find a manga about basketball that's frickin over the top japan shit (kuroko no basket) or you can find something more serious and down to earth. Hell one of my favorite mangas is Beck Mongolian Chop Squad and thats just about teens wanting to make it big as a rock band and it's fricking great. But for some reason capeshit is all we have over here
I am in school to be an architect but have always wanted to make a comic. Might as well put my drawing skills to good use, one of these days I will try anon but its going to be hard with all the damage done. There would need to be hundreds of others as well to change the tide of the western industry.
Hey, an architecture degree worked for Nihei.
I would say that's a bit hyperbolic. Cape comics are the majority of what we have, but we do have a healthy amount of crime and horror. They just don't get as much play because the big 2 keep pumping out content to control shelf space.
As Manga and indie creator make new inroads with new/different fan bases and the Big 2 go full "Life Style Brand" I believe you will start to see the content balance out.
>but we do have a healthy amount of crime and horror
I'm not saying you're wrong, but such as? Please don't say walking dead or corssed
*Crossed
Locke and Key From IDW
Something is killing the Children from Boom
Red Room from Fantagraphics
About a 3rd of Image's catalog is horror oriented.
Sweet. Recommendations. Thank you anon.
It'll take a decade, to actually do something that ambitious. Maybe I'm talking out of my ass but it'll take very long to soften things up. Most of the indie comics are either heroes in capes or heroes in not capes and not enough other genres like SoL or Music or stuff.
He does plan on extending into other genres within the universe.
I guess thats good to hear, I suppose I can't complain anymore then
>Jawbreakers
Bruh, after the first book the series never got "big" ever again
JFC there are more publishers out there than just Marvel and DC
Take the creator owned pill
Wow almost 5,000 orders already. It's only been out for an hour.
Also why does his website make my laptop lag like crazy?
>Also why does his website make my laptop lag like crazy?
That's probably the crypto mining.
>Avery Silman was once an entry-level hero known as Isom in the city of Florespark, Texas shortly after gaining his special abilities. A certain event had him hang up his suit, and now he stays on the outskirts of the city, living as a rancher.
>Avery’s sister, Altona, gives him a call and wants him to visit an old friend by the name of Darren Fontaino. Another family friend that was interning with Altonta has gone missing and she last heard that she was dealing with Darren. But Darren has much changed since he was hanging out with Avery when they were young. He’s a cold-blooded shot-caller and one of the most feared men in the city.
>This visit turns into one of the longest days in Avery’s life. Around these parts, people call ‘special beings’ Excepts. And unfortunately for Avery, he has the luxury of running into some of them. The Alphacore and Yaira have their own set of conflicts. A man built like a tank by the name of Santwan reappears and he’s had previous confrontation with Avery. So what happens with Avery and Darren’s meeting? Who and where is the family friend? Just grab Isom #1: Ill-Advised Pt. 1 and find out for yourself!
Sounds pretty good.
This does sound good, I am not really proficient regarding comics and graphic novels, so is 35 bucks a good price for a 100 pages?
>There’s this rancher, um, he’s got powers and there’s other dudes with powers too. And now conflict ensues, or whatever
How does anyone find this summary to be good or interesting? Unless of course you had already decided to read it before knowing anything about this project in which case the summary is meaningless.
Should he spell out the entire book?
It’s a literal nothing of a pitch. Why would anyone find this summary compelling enough to buy it?
Because it's an interesting enough hook to give his first book a chance.
That's how book purchases are made.
There is no hook.
Ok. Whatever. Ex hero turned rancher getting back in the game sounds cool to me. Reminds me of John Wick.
>I get excited by generical things
This explains so much
I liked John Wick.
It is an interesting premise but I also do not see the appeal of it but you are giving it a chance so I guess, to each their own.
Sounds good enough for me to give it a chance.
Nobody cares if you don't.
>Unless of course you had already decide
Hey now they could also be hired to advertise it
Why so little copies for B cover?
First one looks like it could be several different panels from the book itself edited together.
Here we go again...
That's what I was worrying about: that it would mostly stay within the political niche.
It probably might. It's gonna be one of those comics recommended by the comicsgate crowd and would be pushed relentlessly as an alternative to the modern comics scene.
Well, best of luck to the comic.
The summary is there already. I don't see anything political in it.
see
also he basically just made back 300k in an hour, is this the most successful indie comic backing to date or have i not been following enough kickstarters?
Damn, only been an hour with server issues and this dude made back pretty much everything he put in to make this happen. Shit's insane
Yeah dude pretty much already doubled his investment.
>OMG someone who already has an audience from his other ventures has them run to buy it immediately
A buddy of mine had never heard of Rippa, he was told about this comic from someone else who had never heard of Rippa, and they both bought copies. Cry harder.
Cool story, bro.
>it's all just his fans buying books
>example of people who were not already fans buying books
>c-cool story bro...
Wait I thought the comics were already made and paid for what's this campaign shit?
Just his goal with the first book. He's being transparent.
Transparently asking for donations for something that was already made and you told me there wouldn't need to be donations for?
I mean, yes? If people want to just donate, that's an option. Otherwise they can purchase a product.
The logo looks like Wario´s
This dude looks like a thug shaka. Don't hate thought, just think he does.
So does the shill realize how obvious he's being or does he think he's being super sly and subtle?
Eh, I just wanted to highlight this.
(You)
lol i am not a shill. I am not paying 30 bucks for shipping. Gonna wait for scans and read it online.
>Advertisments for this is about how NON-WOKE these comics are
>Comicsgaters like Nerdoid and Geeks and Gamers support it
>Bots and people above fans keep spamming rippaverse shit in comic twitter fans replies to get them to react so they can get free advertising+ say how much the Woke left hates rippaverse
Yeah this smells like another scam to me. If the only way to advertise your product is via culture war shannigans then chances are your product is shit
Cope
Seethe
Seriously where's the scam? You got the full summary of the book. There's nothing anti-leftist in it.
It's just a regular comic book.
Regular comic books don't need to advertise themselves as anti-woke/non-political books.
But marvel and dc can do the opposite? homie what? do you hear yourself?
Feel free to post one example of Marvel or DC advertising their comic on how woke it is.
You can't because you're a fricking moron but feel free to try.
>cover for pride shows two people kissing
See this is exactly what I mean when I said you were a moron
A cover is not an advertisement and two people kissing is not being woke no matter how much it triggers your moronic ass
yikes, imagine not even being able to pass on an anonymous internet forum
now consider how much worse you are at passing in real life
It kinda is. With how things are now, having a gay couple on a comic cover is similar to a poison dart frog showing off its colors to say that it is dangerous.
By that logic this comic you guys are shilling is woke because it's a black guy on the cover.
Hmmm. It kinda is. But there are colorful animals that are not poisonous as well, I believe this is one of them.
Did they retcon the fact that Nico showed no interest in Karoline, even when Karoline thought she did?
lol
>page from a comic
Again, not an advertisement.
you're a fricking moron
Says the dumbass who doesn't know what an advertisement is
No, he's right, you're moronic
All you dipshits had to do was post an advertisement because your inbred ass kept whining about how they were "totally advertising how woke their comics were" yet all you could manage was a couple of covers for a specific event and an out of context page
Do you people also get triggered by christmas and valentine's day comics?
Not even reading your post, you're moronic
t. moron
>another cover for a pride event
So you can't find any advertisements? Or are you just too stupid to know what an advertisement is?
Show breasts
>b-b-but what about marvel and DC
Cool whataboutism but my point still stands
Ok. I hear you. But what does Isom have to do with politics?
It's more of the guy making it is anti-woke and that people would support him because he is an indie comic maker that would revive the comics industry and stabilize it again. Just a theory of mine.
Isom alone is apolitical, as many comicsgaters would like but the discussions surrounding this comic would be political in nature. It'll be a few sentences about it's quality, generally positive and then what it isn't, it isn't woke that's for certain and that angle would be the focus of many.
I hope I've made sense.
The last time you guys told me a comic was apolitical was Kamen America.
I mean Kamen America is apolitical but the discussions surrounding it won't be.
>Kamen America is apolitica
Kamen America contains commentary on poverty, gender roles, business corruption, the military industrial complex, the prison complex and predatory practices within the fashion industry.
Yes but all the black characters are portrayed negatively.
I'm kinda perversely curious how this book is gonna manage to walk the tightrope. The antagonist will have to be black too because black protagonist and white antagonist is woke propaganda, but then wouldn't that make the book "too" black and be white erasure?
Yes and they're all done as nuanced as possible. As a point of discussion for the characters and not just a speech.
Bruh, they literally added /misc/ memes
Well, I did notice that the country in the middle east had Kek in it so yeah, I guess it is political. Not political according to /misc/ though.
lol
tbf comic books have been advertizing themselves as woke, were you not here for the thor miles fiasco and all the LGBT shilling
I'm in one of these brigading leftist discords and they're absolutely seething right now. For weeks they've been saying how this shit won't break even and it'll be a failure, now they're absolutely losing their minds. They tried to cope by saying it won't sell as many copies as mainstream comics, but Isom #1 has already outsold like 60% of comics. One guy is even dry heaving on voice because it's on track to outsell most Pride month sales easily. Get rekt trannies.
post screenshots or fuk off, larper.
waste of fricking quads.
don't listen to that homosexual anon.
>brigading leftist discords
Why do you morons always do this when your /misc/ cancer floods the board
They do the same thing literally every time.
>it'll never come out
>okay it came out but it's still a scam
>marvel still exists, therefore it failed
And this is why they invest in it. It's not about the quality of the comics, no. It's about beating these leftist scum. Someone said to me that the way to defeat these Tumblrina Marvel and DC artists is not with cheesecake comics like these. I don't know what to beat them with but if the entire industry would be infested with cheesecakes like this and replace woke comics, I just don't think it's a fair trade.
That's just my two cents on the issue.
I don't care about some shitty clickbait cry baby Wednesday warrior Youtuber comic.
Rippa bros we're winning.
I feel like I'd care more if the shills for this shit were less obvious about advertising on here
>a big hit like Jawbreakers
Hue
why do these shitty comicsgate comics always make Cinemaphile so assblasted?
Maybe because the idea of owning the SJWs is very nice but also the fact that most of the comicsgaters stories range from meh to eh.
And people invest in this so there's some attachment to it.
I don't have an answer though just some wild guesses.
>Looks at new typical capeshit comic with mediocre bland art on here.
>Looks at comics I own of mostly older big two and alternative works with actual unique artstyles and ideas.
Yeah I'll stick to what I already have.
k
>People cry and b***h about new comics
>1000s of old from at least 6 decades comics of all genres and styles worth reading exist.
Yes
Reminder that Big 2 creators waste their time lurking Cinemaphile instead of putting more time into their own comics. There is a very high likelihood that people mad in this thread are someone from the industry upset they can't shut this down.
Do they? If that's the case, then.
HEY BIG 2, MAKE MORE COMICS LIKE GWENPOOL AND STOP BEING homosexualS. ALSO IF YOU HAVE A CHARACTER THAT'S NOT PROFITABLE CAN YOU RELEASE THEM TO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN.
That's all, folks.
But I would also like to point out that sometimes the stories from these kinds of comicsgate comics aren't very interesting to garner a wider audience. There's a chance one can become popular like BRZRKR which was written by Keanu Reeves so we already got star power there.
This is just a niche one. I haven't heard of the Rippaverse till today. And I don't live in the US.
So it's stories for his supporters and said supporters would spread it, yeah? Well, here's to hoping it succeeds.
>make threads for big two comics
>no problem
>make thread for indie comic
>reeeeee shill SHILL you are shilling this offensive comic
I hate this board so much.
Most of Cinemaphile are consoomers without any goals or aspirations. They want the cogs to turn like they've always done...so they hate when someone with a vision finally succeeds.
no, leftytroons are just totalitarian control freaks, so can't stand the thought of anything outside their control existing
EVS and Rippa have inspired to adapt one of my scripts Hollywood rejected due to "lack of diversity". Just need to find any cheap up and coming artists that won't break my bank.
Hire Hues.
Who?
Brazilians like based Joe Benett.
He'd be too expensive, moneys tight as frick thanks to the pandemic/recession. I'm still rereading the script and brainstorming at this point hopefully I can get a first draft for the first three comics in like a month.
Pretty sure if the Rippa guy wasn’t an idiot that feels the need to rely on culture wars his attempts would be better recived. Also I’ve seen threads about other indie stuff that are well recived.
You know if you wanna advertise this shit on here fine. But at least Disney and other companies are less subtle about shilling at least try to make your shilling less obvious
This is a board for comics and cartoons. It's a new comic book. We want to discuss comic books. Thus, we want to discuss this new comic book, on the board for comics and cartoons.
Can't wait
There's some Grade A seething in here.
Looks pretty hava.
hava?
HAVA GOOD DAY
LMAO GOTTEM
HA
I got to check out BRZRKR. It's on one of my Tachiyomi extensions.
I'm betting it'll be like Kamen America where everyone would shill for it but it's not as grand as it really is. I started reading Kamen America and it isn't really doing it for me. I got better chances in manga and old issues.
I'll see what Cinemaphile has to say about it when someone really fully reads it.
I am guessing the backers are just those who did it out of spite, like many of the indiglegogo campaigns of the anti woke comic world.
It'll be a niche, maybe. I want to be proven wrong so I can see this shit on READCOMICONLINE. I don't live in the US so I can't really get this.
>I'M GONNA RIP IT!
If Isom doesn't say IT'S RIPPAN TIME, I'm burning my copy.
>3 threads about a grifter
More like seven.
Shills are working overtime.
The Mouse doesn't pay you enough.
>randomly mentions The Mouse
your head is rent-free
>he pressed ctrl+f "rippa" just to seethe
you can leave anytime
>spending $100 to own the libs
you're pathetic
It always is like that. I'm kinda glad I don't spend that much. And it's worth it? In this economy? Owning the libs is much more important than trying to survive? What garbage.
I'll just wait for the pirates and judge for myself if the story is 100 USD worthy.
>he doesn't know how averages work
>typical profile of American comic readers are 25-35 year old men
>imagine not being able to afford a $35 comic book from a podcast host
>imagine not supporting small business
>imagine shilling for broke corporations that hate you for free
sad... very sad
35 bucks is too much for me. I'm certain I'm not the target market for that comic but all the power to them.
It actually helps if I think I'm not the target market for it. Well, cause I don't live in the US.
That and I have a long list of comics to back read so yeah. Best of luck to the supporters of this comic.
welcome to post 2016 Cinemaphile
Comicsgate? I assume it is. Any and all opportunities to own the libs is an acceptable thing regardless if you personally think it isn't a sound investment.
If you don't invest, you're a non-supporter of indie artists, small businesses and all that libertarian crap.
I just don't want to feel bad that since I don't live in the US but am very anti-wokes I won't be able to support this which in turn would give me brownie points for the anti-woke and comicsgate crowd.
I shouldn't feel bad but the anti-woke fricks make it seem like it's a crime against humanity if I don't.
And I can't afford 35 dollars plus shipping. I don't have a job and that translates to 4 days worth of food where I'm from.
Sorry comicsgaters but you won't get money from me. I'm not interested, it's probably not for me and I can't afford it.
Ciao.
>I don't have a job
This is what you should feel bad about
Well, my career is set. I just have to finish school. And even then I won't be able to afford shit.
>but am very anti-wokes
No you're not you subversive fricking troony. You would stop getting mad that someone is challenging the status quo if you were
How'd you come to this conclusion, dear anon? I'm interested to hear.
but enough about marvel
Wait. So it's not called Rippa? Then what the frick is Rippa?
Rippa is the stage name of the guy making the comics.
I dunno if it's his given name or a stage name, don't care to Google it either. Going to forget about this thread almost entirely.
He man, always happy to see independent guys making it.
This actually looks real bad ass. Can't wait to check this out.
Jawbreakers was a big hit? Isn't it storytime of pain fodder like Iron Sights?
It made bank for he guy putting it together, so on that measure yeah, it was successful.

I transitioned 4 months ago, and ever since then every day has been a living fricking nightmare. The dilating, the pain, the bleeding, the pus, the hair... and now... and now you're telling me the chuds are winning the fricking culture war too?! AAAAGH! FRICK! FRICK FRICK FRICK FRICK! I CAN'T FRICKING TAKE IT ANYMORE!
It's over, Cinemaphile. I'll be streaming my suicide in the Steven Universe Discord server at 8 PM (PST)
Alright have fun hun
more like Black personverse lmoa gottem
Rippa just opened up a small business and Cinemaphile always preaches about how we need more independent creators and we need to get away from the Duopoly are now starts shitting on him for it.
This is what we want.
that's Cinemaphilemblr, not Cinemaphile
>This is what we want.
This entire discussion around this comic is making me reconsider if that is all talk. When someone actually does that and puts their own money in the game some people seethe for some reason.
those aren't people, they're leftytroons
