Rippa's first comic is called Isom

>art by Cliff Richards

It looks nice, but do you think it'll be a big hit like Jawbreakers or BRZRKR, or stay within a niche that doesn't even make a dent in the big two's already tiny sales, like Kamen America?

Congrats to the guy for getting his comic out there but I really wish people would spread awareness that western comics has more to offer than superhero stuff. Feels like nothing else gets attention here.

fricking this. The reason manga is so fricking successful is because there is a manga for fricking everything and all those different mangas have different tones. You can find a manga about basketball that's frickin over the top japan shit (kuroko no basket) or you can find something more serious and down to earth. Hell one of my favorite mangas is Beck Mongolian Chop Squad and thats just about teens wanting to make it big as a rock band and it's fricking great. But for some reason capeshit is all we have over here

I am in school to be an architect but have always wanted to make a comic. Might as well put my drawing skills to good use, one of these days I will try anon but its going to be hard with all the damage done. There would need to be hundreds of others as well to change the tide of the western industry.

I would say that's a bit hyperbolic. Cape comics are the majority of what we have, but we do have a healthy amount of crime and horror. They just don't get as much play because the big 2 keep pumping out content to control shelf space.

As Manga and indie creator make new inroads with new/different fan bases and the Big 2 go full "Life Style Brand" I believe you will start to see the content balance out.

It'll take a decade, to actually do something that ambitious. Maybe I'm talking out of my ass but it'll take very long to soften things up. Most of the indie comics are either heroes in capes or heroes in not capes and not enough other genres like SoL or Music or stuff.

It's more of the guy making it is anti-woke and that people would support him because he is an indie comic maker that would revive the comics industry and stabilize it again. Just a theory of mine.

Isom alone is apolitical, as many comicsgaters would like but the discussions surrounding this comic would be political in nature. It'll be a few sentences about it's quality, generally positive and then what it isn't, it isn't woke that's for certain and that angle would be the focus of many.

Yes but all the black characters are portrayed negatively.
I'm kinda perversely curious how this book is gonna manage to walk the tightrope. The antagonist will have to be black too because black protagonist and white antagonist is woke propaganda, but then wouldn't that make the book "too" black and be white erasure?

And this is why they invest in it. It's not about the quality of the comics, no. It's about beating these leftist scum. Someone said to me that the way to defeat these Tumblrina Marvel and DC artists is not with cheesecake comics like these. I don't know what to beat them with but if the entire industry would be infested with cheesecakes like this and replace woke comics, I just don't think it's a fair trade.

why do these shitty comicsgate comics always make Cinemaphile so assblasted?

      Anonymous

Maybe because the idea of owning the SJWs is very nice but also the fact that most of the comicsgaters stories range from meh to eh.

And people invest in this so there's some attachment to it.

I don't have an answer though just some wild guesses.

Reminder that Big 2 creators waste their time lurking Cinemaphile instead of putting more time into their own comics. There is a very high likelihood that people mad in this thread are someone from the industry upset they can't shut this down.

      Anonymous

Do they? If that's the case, then.

HEY BIG 2, MAKE MORE COMICS LIKE GWENPOOL AND STOP BEING homosexualS. ALSO IF YOU HAVE A CHARACTER THAT'S NOT PROFITABLE CAN YOU RELEASE THEM TO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN.

      That's all, folks.

      Anonymous

But I would also like to point out that sometimes the stories from these kinds of comicsgate comics aren't very interesting to garner a wider audience. There's a chance one can become popular like BRZRKR which was written by Keanu Reeves so we already got star power there.

This is just a niche one. I haven't heard of the Rippaverse till today. And I don't live in the US.

So it's stories for his supporters and said supporters would spread it, yeah? Well, here's to hoping it succeeds.

Most of Cinemaphile are consoomers without any goals or aspirations. They want the cogs to turn like they've always done...so they hate when someone with a vision finally succeeds.

Pretty sure if the Rippa guy wasn’t an idiot that feels the need to rely on culture wars his attempts would be better recived. Also I’ve seen threads about other indie stuff that are well recived.

I got to check out BRZRKR. It's on one of my Tachiyomi extensions.

I'm betting it'll be like Kamen America where everyone would shill for it but it's not as grand as it really is. I started reading Kamen America and it isn't really doing it for me. I got better chances in manga and old issues.

I'll see what Cinemaphile has to say about it when someone really fully reads it.

I am guessing the backers are just those who did it out of spite, like many of the indiglegogo campaigns of the anti woke comic world.

It'll be a niche, maybe. I want to be proven wrong so I can see this shit on READCOMICONLINE. I don't live in the US so I can't really get this.

It always is like that. I'm kinda glad I don't spend that much. And it's worth it? In this economy? Owning the libs is much more important than trying to survive? What garbage.

35 bucks is too much for me. I'm certain I'm not the target market for that comic but all the power to them.
It actually helps if I think I'm not the target market for it. Well, cause I don't live in the US.

That and I have a long list of comics to back read so yeah. Best of luck to the supporters of this comic.

Comicsgate? I assume it is. Any and all opportunities to own the libs is an acceptable thing regardless if you personally think it isn't a sound investment.

If you don't invest, you're a non-supporter of indie artists, small businesses and all that libertarian crap.

I just don't want to feel bad that since I don't live in the US but am very anti-wokes I won't be able to support this which in turn would give me brownie points for the anti-woke and comicsgate crowd.

I shouldn't feel bad but the anti-woke fricks make it seem like it's a crime against humanity if I don't.

And I can't afford 35 dollars plus shipping. I don't have a job and that translates to 4 days worth of food where I'm from.

Sorry comicsgaters but you won't get money from me. I'm not interested, it's probably not for me and I can't afford it.

        Ciao.
