RIVERDALE ended last night

After the convergence between the science of a palladium bomb and the magic of an ancient spell cracked the Multiverse open and gave Archie and the pals superpowers so they could defeat an interdimensional warlock, the gang had to reset the timeline back to the 1950s to prevent a comet from destroying the world. After making the past more progressive through the power of sex, poetry and comic books, Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead had a foursome, went their separated ways, lived unremarkable but fulfilling lives, died and reunited in their own personal heaven modeled after Pop's shop to be sexy teenagers for all eternity.

Cheryl Blossom was hardly a character in the actual comics. It is only after the TV show that the comics have started featuring Cheryl more. Before the Riverdale show, Cheryl Blossom was an E-lister in the Archie Universe AT BEST, below the recognition level even of characters like Moose, Reggie and Midge. It is only after CW's Riverdale that Cheryl started getting more focus in the comics and became one of the official lead characters.

Based on this summary, I can’t tell if the writers legitimately just didn’t give a shit anymore or if they actually thought this was good storytelling. The idea that every character is sexually fluid, a disproportionate number of LGBTQ characters, changing 1950s America with the power of modern progressivism, it just checks so many boxes that it almost feels like a parody of modern fiction. I don’t know, maybe it feels more sincere when you actually watch it. Regardless, I hope that the show ending frees up the show-runner. Mostly because I really want the Afterlife with Archie and Chilling Adventures comics to come back.

The TV show made them big money, enough to basically buy them another decade or two.

No, the OG silly classic Archie continuity; they retired the original Archie canon (not making any new stories but keeping the reprint digests going) right before the TV show launched and paid out the ass to get major comic talent like Mark Waid, Adam Hughes, etc to write new "mature" Archie shit in the same tone as the TV show (but with it's own canon/lore, hence shit like Nu-Archie Cheryl having a different backstory than TV Cheryl).

It was widely reported that had the TV show flopped and been canceled after one season, that Archie would have been fucked as the loss of the Sonic franchise, several years of overspending on licensed properties for crossovers, a sexual harassment lawsuit settlement, and paying big name talent to reboot Archie left the company in dire straits and they would have shut down if the show didn't turn out to be a huge hit for them.

The show brought the characters to a brand new zoomer audience, and the vintage archie digests are still on sale at every super market near me. I wouldn't be surprised if these archie digests outsell Marvel and DC's biggest comics every year, considering how the Archie digests are available in the checkout aisle of every single super market and convenience store, but you can only find capeshit comics in comic book stores.

I just watched the episode and it's actually pretty depressing. Can't say for sure about the other's since the episode is from Betty's POV, but for her at least her "long and fullfiling" life was not fullfiling at all, she just spent 70 years longing for her highschool life and regretting not keeping in touch with her exes. Even in the scene at the start with her granddaughter old Betty's room filled with nothing but highschool pictures of Archie and the others, which would be sweet if they were still together but it's just sad knowing they drifted apart right after highschool.

They established before that heaven or “the sweet hereafter” exists for each individual person. So that last scene in Pop’s was Betty’s heaven. The others weren’t the “real souls” of the others but the ones of Betty’s heaven.

That’s why there is a separate Jughead narrating from outside. That’s the spike of the “real” Nughead.

    >Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead had a foursome, went their separated ways, lived unremarkable but fulfilling lives, died and reunited in their own personal heaven modeled after Pop's shop to be sexy teenagers for all eternity.
    Did this actually happen?

Yes. We are not shown an explicit foursome but are tolf the four of them were in a quad relationship for a year and see glimpses of every combination making out except Archie and Jughead cause that would be gay.

Is there a youtube video of this to prove it is real? I know that the Archie writers want every kid who watches their show to enter gay polycules, but this is too ridiculous.

The episode is 89 year old Betty visiting the last day of High School and reliving her youth, a gift from Angel Jughead who is like a narrator for the series

Betty is the last one to die so Angel Jughead knows what happens to everyone because it's already happened, Betty just can't remember most of the details because she's so damn old

          Just remember quad relationships are only Archie/Betty, Betty/Jughead, Archie/Veronica, Betty/Veronica, and Veronica/Jughead.

          There was no Archie/Jughead

Which one? Jason was killed by his father. The Black Hood who shot Archie's dad and then was the main serial killer for season 2 was Betty's dad, who was groomed since childhood to kill sinners.

I skipped most of this last season, but did they ever send Grundy to jail for sleeping with high school boys?

Ethel's boyfriend at the end of her episode was the other kid who died after sleeping with Grundy wasn't he?

In the original timeline, Betty’s dad killed her soon after.

I’ve watched all episodes of this freaking show, and I still don’t understand why Betty’s dad became the black hood. Because he had serial killer genes??
Then why did he try to rob Pops and then shoot Archie’s dad, his very neighbor and the sweetest guy in town?
Why not F.P., the guy that fucked his wife?

That, and he was groomed into needing to punish sinners by his family and the Sisters of Quiet Mercy.

              >why did he try to rob Pops
              Misdirect.

              >and then shoot Archie’s dad, his very neighbor and the sweetest guy in town?
Fred was a sinner in his eyes for committing adultery.

              >Why not F.P., the guy that fucked his wife?
Hal was still a pussy at the end of the day. Failed to kill Fred, failed to kill Moose and Midge the first time around, etc.
