NTA but none of that is an argument for the quality of the movie, and really the only thing it does exceptionally well are the visuals. The acting is average, the story is mediocre, the characters are hollow, the message is hilariously clumsy, the world building is janky,... It basically feels like a Heavy Metal issue from the 80s, which is fitting for Mad Max and the striking visuals are enough for it to be a 8/10 for me, but I definitely see why someone wouldn't like it.

On the one hand a lot of the movies on the right have no business being here, on the other hand it's ridiculous how hard film critics clung to Golden Age Hollywood as the peak of cinema for 80 years.

Singin' in the Rain and Wizard of Oz are both genuinely good movies. Nobody commanded me to like them, there are lots of classic old movies that I don't like even if everyone else does. But those two are great.

I never said they're not good, that's the least you could expect from movies that are supposed to be top 10 of all time. I just think it's ridiculous how the critical consensus seems to be that comparatively almost no good movies seem to have been made between Godfather 2 and the 2010s. To me it just says that critics used to be very traditionalist until they became overly lenient.

I agree with you except for me it’s Blade II, the best black superhero movie of all time.
It is shitty that it’s pretty much been forgotten because “Black Panther was the first superhero movie where black people were represented!”

        Anonymous

Dumb clickbait articles aren't so much the reason the Blade movies are sorta kinda but not really forgotten, the reason is Snipes crashed and burned his bridges with Hollywood. As in the "first black superhero" shit wouldn't have gained traction if the movies weren't already "forgotten".

You think that if Snipes had a cleaner career Blade would be viewed in the same way Black Panther is?
I think that Black Panther was as big as it was because of when it was released.
People’s grandmothers were going to see Black Panther because it was a big “frick you” to whitey.
Black people loved Blade but more in a “That homie from New Jack City is slicing and dicing vampires, that shits cool” type of way

              Anonymous

              >"motherfricker, you out your goddamn mind?"
I love this line and delivery. It's not exactly in character with how stoic he plays Blade in general, but it's such a non-sequitur. Does he mean "you just going to shoot a brother like that?", "who opens fire in a hospital hallway?", "do you think that shit can harm me?", "can't you see I was helping?",... In essence it says all of that with an ironic level of elegance.

            Anonymous

Nah. It didn't come out at the right time for everyone to stroke themselves off to a black man being a superhero. I sincerely doubt it has anything to do with Snipes personally

              Anonymous

The most gruesome death in Blade 2 is a literal Neo Nazi being split perfectly in half. If that can't recognition from the people who constantly fellate Black Panther, i don't know what will

            Anonymous

Not what I said, no. I'm saying the marketing ploy wouldn't have worked nearly as well if Snipes had remained a movie star. Because within the first week he'd have called bullshit on those motherfrickers.
The second part of your post is largely right, but it's not just coincidence, Gisnep largely marketed it as some historical event.

              Anonymous

Ah I see. However the question remains if Snipes would be able to go against the mouse, even if he was an A-lister

I don't think he'd have made it a personal crusade, but it would have certainly provided a counter-narrative. Hell who knows Blade might have become a household name.

A few of the action scenes have a lot of contrivances, MJ's character as a whole, some things don't really make too much sense; basically just comic book movie nonsense. Still, I find it the best Spider-Man movie, still doesn't mean it's perfect.

          Anonymous

NTA but I can't stand the MJ plot and MJ herself in that movie, it's some Ross and Rachel bullshit romance drama. I also dislike the erectile dysfunction implications of him losing his powers when his romantic life is in the shitter, making him quitting an easier decision. It's just something (Peter losing confidence, purpose, motivation) that's already fairly explicit in the story and really doesn't feel like it benefits from the losing his powers metaphor.
I didn't really take as much issue with how the romance drama mixed with the plot in the 1st movie iirc.

I don't think it's "better". It's a completely different film. Neither film is trying to be the other.

      Anonymous

Me tbh. The main thing Infinity War had going for it was being dark and daring to end on the villain "killing" a bunch of characters.
I don't find dark capeshit particularly groundbreaking, and as a longtime comic reader it was incredibly obvious that the dead would just get better by the end of the next movie. Endgame had actual deaths and a lot of good character moments. I also prefer the cast of characters, for most of the movie it's about the core Avengers rather than all the new guys who headline phase 4 or the Guardians.
And I know it makes me seem like a soiboy clapping like a seal but I really enjoyed the fanservice in the time travel scenes.
That being said Thor trying to power the cosmic machine that's usually powered by a fricking sun is probably the coolest moment in either movie imo. Probably the best movie capeshit has done a truly cosmic moment period.

T'Challa isn't exactly the best fit for a typical heroic protagonist. He's not a bad guy, he just has some weird morals by American standards. He's a pure product of exoticism, and that's kinda what makes his charm. Of course that couldn't work for the "finally black people get a paragon" movie.
