I don't get the joke, what do all these people have in common
The joke is that Lisa and Marge and Maggie went on the spaceship with humanity's best people to Mars, and Homer and Bart went on the spaceship flying into the sun filled with idiots (everyone who isn't spike lee) and racebaiters (spike lee)

The world was ending and they put everyone on spaceships to evacuate them to safety. All of society's worst people put on one ship that, unbeknownst to them, was launched towards the sun.
There's two ships going to space. One has all these people on it and the joke is all these people suck. Homer would rather die than spend another second with them.

Quick run down? I've never read any reference to him that attacked him on a personal basis so what he one of those guys where even if you didn't agree with his ideas and politics you'd concede he was a stand up nonetheless?
He was an independent billionaire that had progressive and conservative ideas. He actually pushed for the early adoption of E-Democracy to allow more transparency and more information to be available to the voter so they can better understand what they're voting on.
