The intro is really stylish, but the actual show is nothing but low-energy "look how dumb, awkward, pathetic these characters are" paired with some extremely generic plots.

it does have some solid jokes (most of them involving misery)
Cinemaphile used to have a lot of threads on Ruby Gloom back in the Late 2000s
I remember Cinemaphile also used to have threads on Jelly Jam.
Jelly Jamm threads were chill. I liked em.
The tone of the show didn't match the original clothes at all.
The intro's tone didn't match the show at all. It should have had been more like this:
The alternative intro also doesn't match the tone of the show.
Sounds like the intro from these 3 shows:
Did he do one for Misery? IIRC there was a nightmare-fuel print of that show but it wasn't by the original artist.
The cartoon within the cartoon is better than the actual one.
Because the show didn't try to be anything but comfy and wholesome. Sorry it's not constant noise and flashy colors. Now shut the frick up and enjoy Ruby Gloom
>comfy & wholesome
>the humour is nothing but "Ahaha look how stupid we are xD"
Why are you hicks and zoomers like this? You can do humour without making everyone except Ruby look moronic.
With the exception of Frank and Len, none of the character were written to be moronic. You haven't even watched the show
Quote this "The character interactions in Ruby Gloom are boring"
Ruby Gloom's show is just Johnny Test on sleeping pills. Each episode could be told in 5 minutes instead of 20.
The spirit of the two shows are basically completely opposite. Johnny test is just nasty, and Ruby Gloom is wholesomeness on crack.
The cat's short movies are the best thing about the show
I mean it seems like this show is aimed at like 6 year olds. Is that so bad?
Yes. Rolly Polly Olly genuinely doesn't bore me as much as Ruby Gloom.
My big brother described the show as hot topic’s winne the puu, to this day I think that’s the most fitting description of the show
Definitely Winnie the Pooh with more boring humour. Everything is so predictable and on the nose and tiresome. Whoever directed and wrote the script needs to go write for Fairly Odd Parents and Johnny Test where he belongs.
>hot topic Winnie the Pooh
That is one the most perfect things I have ever seen posted on Cinemaphile
I really want to enjoy it, but sitting through it is more boring than the average children's cartoon like Hanazuki. It feels like I'm watching Scooby Doo's 60s show, the atmosphere and character interactions are so uninteresting and unentertaining it makes 20 minutes feel like 60 minutes.
Where can I go read the comic instead?
Doom is hot
Great backgrounds tho, however the character animation sucks ass.
>Only 9 posters
Only 1 gay(you)
Who's got a link to the full webcomic?
You mean the books? You can borrow 3(?) of them on archive.org, and use a github script to have it rip and convert to pdf.
A cat is fine too.
true
Indeed.
I wanted to discuss this show, I think it's a fun little show. But I know the moronic pedohomosexuals would derail and destroy the thread, leading to little to no actual conversations.
It's better than no art and no conversation.
An actual conversation about the show would be much better. But I know that's not what you want to talk about.
I'm willing to discuss the show, depending how you want to discuss it, might even get me to watch the full series. The show isn't cringeworthy to watch, but it's extremely dull.
I noticed 50% of the time the jokes don't land because there's missing sound effects and musical cues all over the place, the dialogue isn't complete, the visual director doesn't have the budget to work with visual cues, the voice actors aren't giving it their all or most commonly the writer doesn't have a joke to tell.
Then the other 50% of the time they actually do tell a decent one liner, joke, visual-audio cue and the voice actors finally emote and don't stop mid sentence with an agonizing 3-5 seconds pause like it's some amateur Youtube animation.
Ruby is your typical friendly popular girl who puts the needs of others above hers and can be very self aware about things but doesn't point it out often to not insult others.
Misery is your typical shy depressive girl but she is very capable of insulting everyone and she's actually very blunt about being a dick about most things unlike most shy types who are often too cowardly to say how they feel. However she's not handled as an antagonist, she's just a deadpan character that says it like it is(50% of the time at least).
Iris is your typical thrill-seeking daredevil tomboy who controls exotic pets and I didn't notice much else about her.
Poe is your typical pseudo intellectual who talks your head off in that typical "dear boy" pretentious 1850s gentleman manner and is often an egocentric crybaby dick about his feelings, much more suited to offend than Misery. These 2 could go well together.
Skeleton boy is Roger from American Dad because of how he changes hobbies every episode. Personality wise he's between insecure, a dick and aware of things, he's pretty eccentric. Unfortunately the writing doesn't do him justice, he's a level below Roger.
The conjoined twins are your typical ...not Beavis & Butthead ... maybe Bill & Ted? .. no. One is far more aware and smarter to the other one who plays the dumb one. They're the typical "dudebro rockers" but they have no chemistry together like Fred & George. They both share the same lingo, hobbies, body, stomach, but their personality barely mixes compared to other twins. They're overall the most boring and predictable together with Poe and Misery.
So that's like 7 characters, maybe only 2, even 1 who seem aware of their surroundings, but sadly Ruby doesn't say what's on her mind so really all 7 characters are self absorbed social cognition wise which makes for a very boring comedy show. They don't introspect neither retrospect... the writer forces it instead of realizing it naturally.
Where does the cat fit in this
Voice of reason who can only communicate through constantly misinterpreted charades.
Truly a waifu
I'd have to look really hard into Doom Kitty to notice any semblance of personality beyond sometimes voice of reason who nobody can hear... and most likely wouldn't listen to even if they could hear her.
The bat is just a typical cowardly pajeet who likes to be prepared. He reminds me of the elephant from Camp Lazlo and Sunil from LPS, but much weaker in personality. I didn't bother watching enough episodes with him to notice any secondary traits which appear only during specific episodes and nowhere else.
The ghost is just a dumb kid scarying everyone(especially the bat) and it's not worth stressing my brain to analyze his ass for all his subtle traits.
>I'd have to look really hard into Doom Kitty to notice any semblance of personality beyond sometimes voice of reason who nobody can hear... and most likely wouldn't listen to even if they could hear her.
She pretends to be cool and stoic around people but she's a huge dork when they stop looking
You're off about Misery. You're right that she's blunt, but she's not a dick, just weary of the countless misfortunes of the world. In fact, I don't think there's a single insult spoken aloud from anyone in the entire show.
It feels like they were afraid of any humour going over kids heads, so they made most overt jokes stick out like unhammered nails. Which is understandable even if it would be a lot better with a gentle touch. But I never even cared about the jokes even watching it as a child. It was more like an audio-visual equivalent of a warm hug.
I cringed in the 2-parter train episode when Ruby kept explaining what all the gangster expressions meant instead of just going with them uninterrupted.
The shorts are somewhat funnier than the show. The plots feel like they were meant for 30 second or 1 minute shorts. When there isn't any action happening the dialogue simply isn't witty enough to keep those long 5-7 minute dialogue scenes entertaining and Ruby Gloom is a dialogue predominant show to begin with.
I think they should have just went with the 1 minute shorts format like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCx2jmzeGn0
Either that or hire a set of different directors and writers because the current ones clearly can't write for a 20 minute show.
It's slow, but it makes you feel "at home", and has an emotional warmth to it that while sometimes a bit awkward in execution, makes it stand out in its boldness.
They aren't meant to be moronic characters. They are flawed archetypes.
The archetypes are fine, it's the writing that bothers me. If the writing was good then skelebro would be the most interesting character because of how many personality changes he goes through like the alien from American Dad.
What is Doom's flaw
She'll never tell.
Severe lack of being cummed inside.
I can fix her
She wishes she was white!.
Why would she want to lose her black fat ASS
Does anyone still have that Voocaroo of the Classic Ruby theme? With flash dead it's no longer on the Wayback
~10 years ago some homosexual took all the song bits from the audio track and called it the OST. Link still works.
I mean the CLASSIC Ruby theme
Found it for ya'll
https://vocaroo.com/1jeZZ9ekqFqT
No clue the source tho
The lyrics can't be heard.
It never had lyrics. It's from the old website.
I FRICKING LOVE PERKY CUTE AND POSITIVE GOTH GIRLS
>no gloom mansion family
Why there's always someone who wants to bone the cat?
I mean is just a cat, get one in the alley...
Cats are sexy
No, it's not "just a cat". It's a cat with Hartmann hips and sexy eyes. Something you will never find in a 3dpd cats, which makes them infinitely inferior to 2d cats.
>Implying felines can't have sexy eyes.
Are there any interesting episodes in this show that stand out from the rest?
Where does Doom keep her violin inside? I see no pockets
She is the violin.
I want to play her violin.
Any other oldgays remember when resident pedogay Kaziklu (who had an eternal boner for the girls in this show for years) got BTFO by someone who animated on the show coming here one day and confirming the characters were supposed to be adults, not pre-teens?
>Kaziklu
I have a vague recollection of this happening. I even remember someone screencapping it.
The Ruby Gloom characters aren't children? I mean, its believable since it'd be like Animal Crossing in that case. The AC characters not only have adult responsibilities, some reference back when they were children, implying they aren't now.
I remember the episode where Misery's family comes to visit, they see actual children, who are of a more diminutive stature than the humanoid cast. And the few other outside characters they interact with in the show that are adults are all around the same height. So most of the housemates are likely young adults with the exception of some like Po and his brothers who seem to be much older.
I find it tough to believe. The characters all have childish personalities, voices, and body proportions. There was even an episode where they were having a science fair, and Skull Boy was upset he didn't have a dad to help him. Of course, one must keep in mind that this show gives negative shits about continuity, and the real answer is whatever the writers need for this particular episode.
>characters were supposed to be adults
>So they're e-girlbabas? Even hotter!
Why did they do it?
Yeah, it could certainly be better. Wish it had some kind of gothic Powerpuff Girl energy or humor, but it's not there.
There's also Growing Up Creepie which feels much more like a slapstick cartoon than a sitcom.
Btw is this comic official or fanmade?
https://chinchillalace.tumblr.com/post/651546232504844288/cool-ruby-glomm-comic-from-deady
Official. Sort of.
The art is by the original creator, but it's from the Deady book series (created by Aurelio Voltaire, who btw sings two Billy & Mandy songs). So who knows if it's canon to either "universe." Ruby Gloom's only "canon" story seems to be the cartoon, and Deady is more like a collection of stories by different authors including Neil Gaiman, Clive Barker, Maxwell Atoms, James O'Barr, Yasushi Nirasawa and many others, so it doesn't have any "canon" beyond the trippy whacky origin that Voltaire gave him.
Where do I read the full thing?
Not scanned as far as I know. I'll buy it again because I lost my copy when I moved. Hopefully I can storytime it by Spooktober.
Indie > corporate trash
Ruby Gloom is my favorite thing I've ever found due to Cinemaphile.
It's just nice. It's not hilarious, it's just super charming.
There's a problem with the twins; they don't share the same brain despite almost every charming twin in media doing so.
Also if you guys wanna talk theories ... I am not your man. I hate theory, makes me feel like I'm in school.
https://www.quotev.com/story/13324780/CartoonMovie-Theories/3
They're not really twins the way everyone thinks.
my spray in tf2 for the longest time was ruby gloom making an ahegao face captioned in impact font with "dead girls can't say no"
post please
Full DVD release when?
Dark & Dawn is a sweet little song.
It was sweet for exactly 10 seconds (yes I counted), until it proceeded to actively reject character development and celebrate an unhealthy relationship. It was so heartwarming to see Ruby finally admit that she can't be happy about everything, and Misery, the most punished and beaten-down member of the group, being the one to step up and be the support that Ruby needs. But no, frick balanced relationships, let's just let Ruby go on repressing all of her negative feelings and Misery can keep wallowing in her depression and never learn how to give back. I am pissed about the way this song went, and we were robbed of some of the finest kino western animation would have ever dropped. I have never seen anything start so promisingly, only to immediately shit itself.
Is that an upscale or smth?? Looks naturally crispy.
does this show count as gothic e-girlta
Absolutely does.
Anything on that missing origin story?
I love this show, is just so "comfy" to watch
>le cropped pr0n
>le
what are you gay
How would you guys feel if this show was about three inept villains trying to do villain stuff and failing? I'd suggest the writers keep them all as sweethearts who are trying to do bad out of obligation, and not really because they're bad people.
I dunno. Doesn't seem like it fits the universe of the characters.
It could be its own thing, but with the characters. Basically, they're all in character trying to do villainy as a job, but are too compassionate and friendly to do it, so they end up helping people. I think it could be fun even if its in a new continuity. Does anyone care about the deep lore of the show anyway?
