Rush Hour is a series that has a lot of flanderization.
First movie is a fun flick with a british Hong Kong villain hiding in plain sight, a memorable henchman, and Carter flirting with his female coworker.
Rush Hour 2 has a Hong Kong villain but it's a double/triple twist, a memorable henchWOMAN that Carter flirts with, and Carter is now watching women undress through a window.
Rush Hour 3 has a triple cross secret British villain, the henchman is now Lee's secret Japanese brother, and now Carter is flat out molesting strangers.
I think the series actually suffered from Brett Ratner after 2, a Rush Hour 4 would need to drop these conventions or it would be really bizarrely over the top
Ratner didn't write the movies though, I think they just naturally tried to one-up the stakes each time. I distinctly remember Rush Hour 3 coming out at the same time that lots of franchises were getting really brash and unpopular third entries.
