It's a mediocre film that was blown out of proportion because it was released when a lot of Americans stuck on Twitter were going through a crisis cause of Covid.
Average. Bad compared to old Disney movies. If Mei didn't twerk and that moronic movie reviewer didn't talk about 9/11 being needed it would have a legacy of nothing but anons going "this looks like shit"
tbf Mr. Enter had the right idea, but said it the wrong way. It's not that this movie needed 9/11 but it tries to say it takes place in the 2000's when it doesn't really add to the story or even actually depict that era accurately at all. It's literally just fluff so they can be like, "MEMBER TAMAGOTCHIS??? LOL!!!"
Even the movie's artstyle feels like some bastardization of the Miyazaki style, done up with sterilized modern animated movie lighting. somehow just feels lesser than the sum of its parts/inspirations.
>or even actually depict that era accurately at all
The director grew up in that era. Her experience is being an Asian girl growing up in the early 2000s. Same reason movies like Donnie Darko used to take place during the 80s.
I hear ya, I read about it too. But it certainly doesn't really translate much into the actual movie. I can't say if corporate just wanted to sand that off or this is just the director's way of portraying their experiences but imo it's practically modern in the way it presents itself.
This movie is just as mediocre and forgettable as other forgotten Disney releases like Rayya or soul, the only difference is twitter got super autistic defending it
One of the better Pixar films. Top 10 infact. Tight script that's respective of asian parenting without promoting anglo degeneracy too much with a unique artstyle and character acting that breaks from the Disney norm.
It places in my top ten Pixar movies as well, though its not top 5 and only in the top 10 because it is better than the rest of their more forgettable films.
Like many modern movies it's a forgettable experience that only got proped up during release because of culture war reasons (and an autists obsession with 9/11)
I have ideas on how I'd make a Persona like RPG with some of the Turning Red characters, but I can only think up a moveset for Mei and her mom. It'd be a shame to leave her friends out, but what the frick would they do against asian themed monsters? Die?
Fat
I want that dumpling FILLED!
and there you go, an abridged simulation of the average Turning Red /thread
Why did they design her to look so AB/DL-coded?
Is there any weight gain art of her?
Why there would be
Isn't she fat enough?
Still too skinny to me, I want her fatter.
Koreans have no soul
While she is getting fricked, right?
>Right
Awooga
Something about that guy's face makes me want to punch him for some reason I can't explain.
Uhhh cause he’s making obnoxious faces?
I call this, Ian Miles Cheong face, mostly found on fat SEA men.
What's the legacy of this movie? Some claim it sucks, others that it's great. I never saw it.

Oh, they dropped a 9/11 joke in there? That must've gone home well with audiences.
Mr. Enter was right. Turning Red should have focused on Iraq with cute girls doing military things.

Gotta give Enter his win, the movie was supposed to end with a plane scene.

Cute and funny movie and also the harbinger of western civilizations fall.
Everyone including myself only like it because they want to frick Mei so bad.

This board really does hate this movie too much.

It's alright. I've rewatched it once myself and twice with friends which I never do unless I have a good time on first watch.
It's my favorite Pixar.
I think the legacy will be establishing Domee Shi as a director to watch.
I liked it. The song's pretty catchy, especially the climax remix version.

>korean
>big round eyes
lust provoking image
Why do Koreans get fat so much easier than other Asians?
Biological trauma mutations from years upon years of their country getting bombed in the 40s and surviving famines
have you seen the stuff they?!
cute
Mei doesn't do diversity
Half her squad is east asian. The other is Indian. Just one token whitey
She does add a gay black at the end.
Who's also half Vietnamese
She cute
