They screwed it with the marketing and thinking it clever to put a semi-religious themed drama on Sunday nights.

Is there that much benefit in ending the season with a cliffhanger? Yeah it's great to get people excited for the next season but it becomes very frustrating and unsatisfying if it gets cancelled.

Cliffhanger does not guarantee renewal. So why not make it more self contained? I feel like cliffhangers are a recent thing and older network shows usually tried to wrap things up like they could end it there if they had to but had enough threads open to do more if they got renewed

Cliffhangers have been a thing forever. The first movies shown in theaters often ended on cliffhangers. Soap operas in the 50s would end on cliffhangers. That 60s Batman show would seemingly end every other episode on a cliff hanger. Will Batman and Robin get out the villains devilish trap? Tune in next time, same bat time, same bat channel!

Okey I'm dumb I guess. But I think instead of cliffhangers a stronger and less risky way to "leave them wanting more" is just make your shit really good but self contained and do more if people like it

Last Man on Earth did it the dirtiest, most blue-balled ending of all time and not to mention the fact that only a year or so after it was canceled, we in real life had a global “pandemic” which would lead to a resurgence of interest in the show somewhat but we never got that final season which supposedly would have started with Tandy and company being wary and a bit standoffish with the people who were hiding out underground but eventually forming an alliance with them and trying to rebuild a society but since the people underground didn’t have the same immunity as the survivors who had been roaming around on the surface, and because each of them is still carrying the virus that to them was pretty much dormant, the new people slowly one by one die off until were left with just the core group of survivors (Tandy, Todd, Melissa, Carol, etc). Goddamn that would have been a great way to end the show with that glimmer of hope and then snuffing it out like that

Game of thrones, what a weird place to end the show, Tyrion killls his dad and goes on a ship? Arya goes to bravoos, why the frick did they end it there? They could’ve made like 4 seasons extra minimum I thought the show was massively successful
