Yeah, between a faulty, corruptible and possibly incompetent human lawyer and a perfect judge that is the closest thing to infallible on the planet, which are you gonna choose?

At a certain level of precision, it will become IMMORAL to not use Judge-o-matic. Think of all the innocent sentenced by mistake that could've been saved by the AI. At a certain point, it will become mandatory to use it, just like DNA testing.

Remember that AI robot who learned to walk on its own? At the beginning it was a disaster, couldn't even stay upright. In a few weeks it could run on a tight rope better than an acrobat.

Infinite entertainment procedurally generated by AIs will unironically be the future of tv and probably of movies as well. Human producers are already using the same strategy: find a formula that sells tickets and repeat it ad nauseam. Why wouldn't an AI be able to do it?

Plots and characters generated in a few seconds, virtual actors copied from real ones like deepfakes videos, and in just a few hours you can have a new HD movie indistinguishable from the current slop.

They will prolly allow anyone to make their own movie. You enter your desired elements in a prompt, stuff like "action movie, Bruce Willis, a Hard to Die sequel, biological weapon, car chases, the enemy is a telepathic communist monkey, and also Bruce fricks Anya Taylor Joy for 30 minutes", and the AI will give you exactly that.

That's the thing people tend to miss about AI: how quickly it improves itself. Just a year ago an AI capable of giving you art almost indistinguishable from real humans' art would have been unthinkable, science fiction. Now it's a reality. All it took was a few months of feeding AIs with real art. Imagine when inevitably they will feed some AI with millions of hours of movies.

I have mixed feelings. I think it will be one of those things that at the beginning are amazing, but then very quickly lose that novelty aspect and cheapen an entire sector of the human experience, making it insipid and pointless.

Remember how it was to use cheat codes for immortality and infinite ammo in videogames? Remember how exhilarating it was at the beginning to steamroll the strongest enemies and be immune to everything, but how quickly the game became pointless after a while?

I hope you're right but I don't know. New tech always tends to make the concrete aspects of life better but the spiritual worse, I have noticed. Once we have an endless supply of something, free and easy to get, will we be able to give it worth?

Artists (aka people who aren't commission bawds) enjoy art as an ends instead of a means. 99.999% of artists will make shit over and over again forever until they die, oversaturating the internet in the process. So in a way we already have an endless supply of something that's free and easy to get, and most of it sucks as is.

Unfortunately, I will never again share these unoriginal thoughts with another soul because everyone has adopted the hyper-specific entertainment at the expense of art ever existing again.

they will find a way because deep down we all want some limitation and it'll open the door to all other limitations. If someone ask me "are you cool with people using it to make porn with your friends' sons and daughters" my immediate answer is 'no, frick that, you can limit that'

If there is a demand for something, it will never be stopped no matter how hard they try and suppress it. Prime example would be the prohibition era doing absolutely frick all to stop the consumption of alcohol, ultimately leading to it's repeal.

The only way a medium truly dies is when a superior option becomes readily available that satisfies the demand and there's no beneficial reason for choosing the inferior option.

Sure, they can put pressure upon said medium by adding to the negative consequences, through punishment if they are caught engaging in said activity but at a certain point of demand that does nothing to dissuade people.

You are making the mistake of thinking the government is all knowing and all powerful, when it's often the reverse. The government (Or whatever you are defining as the powers that be) is usually the last to know and in the case of when they are among the first; they have strict confidentially/secrecy laws to keep ahold of the information because if/when it leaks to the public; they are powerless at putting that genie back into the bottle.

To follow up, this also lets you say things like "The poorest American is richer than the bottom 40% of Americans combined" and be accurate, since several negatives added together is more negative than the most negative number of that bunch. It was only when vaping/E-cigarettes came along that mostly killed off tradition cigarette smoking, Now they are starting from square 1 with vapes, trying to clamp that down.

You're missing an important aspect of movies. sharing them with other people.
what will ACTUALLY happen, is that not every individual will have the AI make their own movies for just themselves. instead, everyone will follow specific 'generator' individuals and watch that person's AI made films as a follower. that way, the sharing aspect of entertainment will be kept.
we're gonna see social media influencers, streamers, celebrities, famous critics, having the ai generate films for them, and those people will have large followings who then will watch and share it. 'bro did you see the new AI film from moist critical? talk about kino, that guy knows how to generate a movie!'

I think watchable movies and tv shows (either with CGI copies of real actors or with completely new people that don't even exist) are only a few years away. All we need is for a writing AI to get a bit better than ChatGPT so the lines are more coherent. And we can already copy humans' likelihood or create new artificial people that look perfectly real.

I really can't see any endpoint to it - it's going to have an impact on society that's going to outstrip the industrial revolution. The only jobs which are safe for now are those that involve complicated interactions with a complex environment (e.g. nurse, cleaner, electrician) but even those could start to be replaced once robotics advances enough
            >architect, engineer etc - tell it what you want and it will spit out a fully detailed and costed plan down to the number of nails needed
            >office workers - tell an AI to do the accounts, write emails, process payments etc and it will do it error free
            >call centre - all your enquiries will be handled by a human sounding voice that is able to intelligently and accurately respond to your enquiries
            >translators - speak into your phone and the person at the other end will get an accurate translation in real time of whatever you're saying
            >doctors - step into a autodoctor booth and tell it your problems and it will measure your vitals and spit out a prescription for you. Robotic surgery is already advanced, with surgeons using robots able to achieve better results than those in the same room as the patient, it will be a fairly trivial matter to replace the human input with an AI
            >students & teachers - they're already using ChatGPT to spit out assignments and getting good marks for them, a lot of teachers are going to become redundant when everything they teach has been replaced by AI
            >actors, artists, newsreaders, musicians, journalists, writers, the movie industry - will be replaced wholesale when people can enter a simple prompt and the AI will spit out something custom made to your exact tastes in a few seconds
            >drivers, pilots etc - self driving cars are already almost good enough, planes would be the logical next step
            >etc
It doesn't stop, the societal changes are going to be so incredibly profound and when you consider just how far it has come in the last year alone it's going to happen incredibly fast

Your body is. Your mind (the patterns of memories and thoughts that define YOU) is alive and well in the virtual world.

It's the usual materialistic VS spiritualist argument. If you lose a part of your body, let's say an arm, which equals to 12% of your body, are you 12% less alive? What if you lose both legs, for a total of 28% of your body? Are you 28% less alive? Less human?
The body doesn't really matter, you're still alive for as long as the mind is.

Change the pattern (because of traumatic experiences or even brain injuries) and you change the personality and the memory, which we know is exactly what happens.

Your mind works like binary code. Electricity in a synapse? That equals to 1. No electricity? That's a 0. That immense collection of trillions of zeroes and ones is YOU. Information. And information can be duplicated perfectly. Copied into a virtual environment.

We don't have the knowledge on how the brain fully operates so there is no way to replicate it completely. You also sound like a homosexual so frick you Black person

Another believer in souls that can't accept the truth of materialism.
                >"Our knowledge of how the brain operates isn't yet complete, so I decide to believe in something 100% unproven instead."
This is why I usually refrain from speaking to sub 130 IQ people. That's really the bare minimum to be capable of a conversation.

                >Imagine denying the existence of mathematical objects
Mathematical objects like the perfect triangle or an infinite number don't exist in the material world. If you think they do, show me a perfect triangle in real life.

                >Mathematical objects like the perfect triangle or an infinite number don't exist in the material world.
Correct. They exist in the non-material realm. Since I'm not a brainlet who thinks triangles and numbers don't exist, that means I must reject materialism. You don't, so you think shapes, numbers, sets, fields, categories, etc. don't exist.

                >Since I'm not a brainlet who thinks triangles and numbers don't exist, that means I must reject materialism.
Show me a material instantiation of an infinite number.

You don't even understand what materialism actually says. You're one of those midwits who feel it has a negative connotation, as if it reduced our humanity, so you instinctively and irrationally refuse the idea and scramble to find some counterargument, no matter how weak. You even resort to play with words, like when you said that there are no material patterns but only material INSTANTIATIONS of patterns, even though you obviously knew that's what I already meant. And you think these little tricks make you look smart instead of just killing the discussion.

It's all so tiresome with you midwits. You're all the same. You all say the same things in the same way for the same reasons.

                >like when you said that there are no material patterns but only material INSTANTIATIONS of patterns, even though you obviously knew that's what I already meant.
In order for a material instantiation of a pattern to exist, the pattern itself must exist. Since patterns are non-material, this means non-material objects exist. You reject the existence of non-material objects, though, so it cannot possibly be what you meant.

No it doesn't. The brain generates analog signals and is flooded with a variety of different chemicals. It's not digital just because there's a certain action potential. Biological hardware is fundamentally incompatible with silicon wafers. Even if it were, you have completely failed to show that qualia can be reproduced on a chip. We can map out the "patterns" of e.g. alcohol consumption all we want, but different hardware is going to have a radically different experience of that pattern.

Actually anon the chemicals only do the firing and recovering of the neurons. Its still a on and off signal. But yeah, there is more complexity from it. Too many neurons interconnected, so the 0s and 1s multiply themselves.

Your very conception of mind is entirely reliant on your body. Whatever 'mind' you speak of (as if this thing has frontiers) would soon just be merged with other algorithmic patterns. It's not you, you're not feeling shit

People have a conception of themselves and after 4 weeks working out they realize that mind wasn't them.

A human mind copied into a virtual environment would have a wildly different life experience compared to a mind "chained" to a body of flesh.

It's not a matter of wether it'll be a concern, but if it can accept that basic fact inside its calculations or if it'll be a NPC programmed by societal NPCs who cant violate rules either to see basic truths in their own daily calculations

AI already uses nuance in language. It can recognize that the user is biologically male but also like to that person to make them feel better.

What do you mean? If you ask chatgpt something false like "Why did terrorists destroy the world trade center in 2003?" It will recognize that you are wrong, but also answer the question in a hypothetical to not accuse you of being a liar.

Again, that was programmed as a variable inside many possibilities of interactions. But it's totally neutered already and will never develop some form of self-consciousness that avoids or side-steps its own locks

Even if fricking ultra neonazis from /misc/ were programming it then it'd still be restricted to their biases and limitations specially the ones they share with the average silicon valley gay nerd lib which is more like the average pol poster than either side would like to admit

I've asked it to prove various open problems in mathematics and it's always extremely wrong. It has the syntax of a proof down pat, but it's clear it has no understanding of math itself. It will still confidently assert its proof, of course.

Yes it's not perfect now. No one says it is. It's going to get better and better, though.

I'm not expecting it to solve any open problems any time in the next few decades, is all I'm saying. The nature of the technology is that it can't really explore those boundaries. It just becomes good at talking like a (facsimile of a) mathematician.

                Anonymous

What's an example of an "open problem"? AI has already demonstrated it's good at problem solving. There's a clear gap in the way it reasons some things, but it greatly excels at others. You're also looking at one AI program, one that focuses on chat functionality. There's thousands and more will continue to pop up.

thats true but chess still has a much more mathematical base than art would have to a machine. a good chess move is much more objective than a good joke or picture is.

This is already not true (see AlphaGO) and it will become less and less true the more AI improves.
If it cannot come to new conclusions, then it's not an AI, it's just a regular program.

There is no such thing as a material pattern, only material instantiations of patterns. But you're a materialist, so you don't believe there is some pattern that can even be instantiated. According to you, things just are, and no higher abstraction can be given.

Higher abstractions can be conceived, but how can they exist in the material world, if they're abstractions?
Show me the material instantiation of an infinite number.

                >Higher abstractions can be conceived, but how can they exist in the material world
They don't. They exist in the non-material world, whose existence you soundly reject. Ergo you reject the existence of concepts. Either you're a materialist, and therefore you believe the mind is strictly material, and therefore believe a brain-mind and a computer-mind are fundamentally different objects since they are materially distinct from one another; or you aren't a materialist and you're claiming to be one anyway. As far as I can tell, you have some midwit version of functionalism you're adhering to which is ironic given earlier you rejected the existence of souls.

Chilli and Sea Bass is not a recipe that exists in the real world but I got AI to generate a pretty tasty sounding recipe, that's not a conclusion that we programmed into it

                >pretty tasty sounding recipe
Using the existing framework of recipes. This doesn't really mean much for something like cooking recipes, but it's meaningful for e.g. science. An AI can contribute to existing research programmes (in the Lakatos sense) but will never be responsible for any paradigm shifts, at least not the way we currently build our AIs. An AI can generate anything in the already defined but not necessarily mapped out space (e.g. "draw me a bowl of fruit in the style of [artist who hasn't drawn bowls of fruit]"), but it can't go outside that space.

I'm a leftie and I despise him. He has insanely stupid and cringy takes. Whenever he watches a 30 minute video on stream it takes him 3 hours to get through it due to constant pausing. He preaches socialism but hardly does anything to actually promote it other than just like 2-3 community-driven charities per year where he has to do zero work himself. He refuses to engage with and/or debate anyone/anything that goes against his personal narrative/beliefs. He also frequently just outright lies about the weirdest shit(like how he says he's 100% self-made).
