      lol 80s gays rekt.

The actual answer is that everyone was juiced as frick in the 80s. They also expected you to work out until you at least looked like you could kick someone's ass.
Then Keaton batman came out and they realized you can just shoot around a 5 foot nothing manlet beating on men 100 lbs heavier and no one will complain.

Keaton was short but he worked out and prepared a lot for that role. More than most Batman actors if I recall correctly.

Current Hemsworth mogs all those homosexuals. More jacked than Dolph and taller than the rest of those midgets. Also the Rock.

Dolph was actually a skilled martial artist though on top of being large with muscles, which makes him cooler

Close. He has a masters degree but not a PhD. Still impressive. Meme is slightly off, but close enough (spent a year studying chemical engineering at Washington State but didn’t graduate there).

That's cool, didn't know Hemsworth was into boxing. But it's not as impressive as actually winning tournaments like Dolph.

No, it doesnt turn people gay. They're already gay to begin with and since that's "in" right now they put gymrats in movies to attract the gaydience. Like you!ah4gw

People used to go to see movies on the strength of the brand associated with an actor. “Let’s go see the new Schwarzenegger flick”. Now they go based on the strength of the brand itself “Let’s go see the new Marvel movie”. People fell in love with Iron Man not because they gave a shit about the character from the comics but because Favreau and RDJ brought him to life in a fresh, fun, and interesting way. Every subsequent MCU movie basically tries to recapture that lightning in a bottle

Looks like having an actor with star power who had all the interests in starring in good roles in good movies that suits his strenghts was always a powerful quality filter

M8 the 80s stars in the OP have all been in some awful movies. Even Arnie who generally picked his movies well had some serious stinkers. If anything they destroyed their own brands by having inconsistent quality and a general drop in overall quality in the 2000s.

In my country, many many years back, people took this clip and put some garbage gypsy music over it as if he was dancing to it. Years later he came to the country and unironically danced to those garbage gypsy songs as he got high and drunk and took was telling the gypsies "no social media" as they filmed him and put the videos up on facebook. The first instance of meme magick.

Superhero movies have them relying on their powers, which are fantastical and often use lots of CGI. Their own bodies aren't as important unless the character is like Drax or Thor and needs to look big and impressive. Compare that to 80s action heroes where they were martial artists or soldiers.

Before the 1990's, the idea that experience, wisdom and power were the defining traits of what a man was suppossed to be. In reality this waa mostly a projection of what men wanted to be but rarely actually displayed in real life.
What companies and advertisers then figured out is that while experience, power and wisdom were things that people wanted, ultimately what ended up getting more momey was advertising to the youth. The youth also want to be wise, be powerful, but they didn't want to be experienced, they couldn't be. The ideal man of modern society shifted away from experience into a youthful spirit. A man who knows and has everything without needing to experience it firsthand. Which meant that muscles and super machismo didn't correspond to wisdom or power, but only corresponded to expeirence.
Essentially the youth are victims of massive advertisement and corporate ploys to squeeze every ounce of money out of their parents and their own selves, and it worked and it continues to work to this day.

The ideal man in the eyes of scoiety is not an experienced man, but a youthful one.

      Anonymous

To add onto this, experience isn't a universal trait that advertisers can rely on. But youth is a universal trait that everyone has. The more universal the trait the more that advertiser and corporations can sell you products
