Even as a kid I noticed Anakin thought Padme was falling in love with Obi Wan. Padme also was implting she liked him in Attack of the Clones. Then in RotS he gets sent over the edge when Kenobi shows up in her Ferrari with her asking him to talk in things out.

Underrated post right here. The entire thing about the trilogy is how completely fricked he was treated by the Jedi and Lucas barely acknowledged it. If you ask George, the biggest disservice they did to him was not call him a master, even though he was and was treated like one in every other sense.

        Anonymous

yeah but Jedi are meant to be like Buddhist monks. A true Jedi would have been humbled to have even been on the council. It was Anakin's arrogance that stopped him being a master.

Anakin's relationship with Palpatine is what prevented him from becoming a Master. Remember that Anakin only got placed on the Council because Sheev appointed him, and the Council were extremely suspicious of Sheev by that point.

        Phantom Menace
        Attack of The Clones

It was acknowledged by Lucas in 3 movies. Every interaction between Anakin and Obi Wan is youthful arrogance vs. wise authority (Obi Wan was a terrible mentor, Anakin was never meant to be a Jedi, it was all a setup).

      >compelled to lead an entire army of slave bred out of vats
      >mother dies before you can go back and buy/free her
      >padawan doesn't stick around after botched investigation, probably the one grounding influence you might have had and shoulder to lean on about leaving the order behind
The Jedi baby snatching policy to deny Sith recruits only played into Rule of 2 dark side power concentration in the end. Jar Jar probably programmed his mind on the dl too, just for the lols

If he had stepped down from being a jedi instead of having a secret romantic relationship none of this would have happened.

If at any time he sided with Dooku, Maul, even Obi Wan & Mace Windu ect. he stood a good chance of removing Palps.

      >ANAKIN, SENATOR PALPATINE IS EVIL!

I like this line. It's the most obvious thing stated at the most ridiculous time. A less noble character would have added a "what are you moronic?" in there for good measure.

      >ANAKIN, SENATOR PALPATINE IS EVIL!

Lucas said that the point of ROTS was to explore how far someone would go to save the person he loved. If a wizard told you that the only way to save your waifu and unborn child from dying was to kill your friends, would you do it?

Vader after the turn is interesting because of this prisoner dilemma situation. He can't be pleased about having to tolerate Palpatine reintroducing slavery as official policy.

he realized the jedi order were hypocrites trying to control everything. they enforced the balance of the force but it was literally unbalanced toward the light side.
you see, the dark and light side are just made up. only the force itself is legitimate, doesnt matter how its used.
the problem comes when abusing the force corrupts the soul which what happened to anakin. luke didnt want want to be addicted to what evil shit he could do with the force like his dad.

Even the prophecy was them trying to control the timeline, even if their ethics precluded doing things like mind tricks and memory wipes, or acting overtly politically.

The Jedi were in the wrong and basically became pseudo dark side practitioners the moment they engaged in state politics. They used the excuse of being peace keepers but whose peace are they keeping?

Argueably the Jedi should never take part in any conflicts unless they are being attacked directly or Dark Siders are seeking to conquer the galaxy.

To me it seems like the Jedi became arrogant over time and lost any sense of a true jedi philosophy beyond following dogma blindly. It reminds me of this idea that Gonzola Lira promoted I forgot what he called it but it was basically about poeple who were so obsessed with theory living in a bubble that they lost sight of practical application. The Jedi got fricking curb stomped by Sidious because he essentially used spiritual judo on them redirecting the efforts of the Jedi to serve the needs of the Dark Side while remaining hidden.
Essentially from a certain point of view Darth Sidious was the real master of the Jedi order as he was telling them all what to do under the guise of a meek politician.

Its mostly all brilliant except for the Jedi stupidity of allowing a clone army to be used without any sort of proper analysis on their part until it was too late. Do you think the Jedi wouldnt like say interogate/examine one clone to see if he has any flaws in his psyche or ability to be manipulated. Concerning the Jedi are warned of the dark side and the sith along with Darth Maul coming out wouldnt it be their first perogative to see what their army is truly made of or examine why Sifo Dyas was involved?

Basically the Jedi logic was like ok well we found Darth Maul, Dooku turned to the Dark side and is starting a war, we now convieniently have a secret massive army only Syfo Dyas knew about and hes dead and a bounty hunter trying to kill the queen of naboo is the basis of this army while also living with the Cloners. Lets just use this army without asking any questions.

The only thing that was out of place was Mustafar, which is a shame because in a vacuum I really like that sequence. That was the only time he was edgy and lusted for power and authority. Even on Mustafar but before Padme showed up he had just done something terrible by accident and instinct and figured he had crossed a line he couldn't come home from and decided that was his life now even if he didn't want it. It really played into his characterization in the later movies, especially 6 where he was broken and trapped until Luke showed him it's never too late

Groomed by Sheev, and trained by the Jedi into being an emotionless, loveless robot despite having the strongest emotions of any Jedi in history. Literally all it took to btfo of the Jedi philosophy was for Anakin to get laid.

Even purely looking at just the movies, he was a product of the Jedi's own stupidity
    >boy is too old
    >he can't take to our lessons blah blah blah
    >well frick it, we'll take in our messiah anyway
    >but despite admitting he will have a hard time truly adopting our ways, if he even can, we're going to not change a single thing, and treat him like shit for his short comings and not acknowledge his strengths
    >why yes, treating a former slave like this surely can't go wrong
Also, the pivotal moment where he had to choose could not have been more perfect for Sheev
    >Anakin, choose me, the mentor and father figure, who can save your wife's life, or this dick bag who has been a dick bag to you from day one

It doesn't absolve Anakin of his bullshit, but the Jedi had it coming, one way or the other.

    Also, let's not forget
    >Ani, we can't be together. But not a few hours later I'm going to cram my body into a BSDM corset and talk with you in a dimly lit room by the fireplace

I mean, Padme was a fricking queen and didn't bother helping her after either.
To be fair, I'm sure she had more bullshit to worry about like being a queen of a post-occupied planet and getting her first period, but for the champion of liberty she was supposed to be, she sure forgot about that that nice slave lady that helped her out pretty quickly.

Unironically why didn’t they just kill Watto? The dude was objectively a terrible being who used slave labor and worked with the Hutts.
I feel like it would have been interesting to have Anakin’s mom freed in Phantom Menace with him but have AOTC involve bounty hunters trying to reclaim her and killing her in the process which angers Anakin.

Because the Republic is crippled by its principles while also thinking it's amazing and perfect, that's part of the message and why it failed
Like when Padme rolls up on Tatooine and says
        >Wha??? But slavery is illegal so how can they do slavery :O

Tatooine is outer rim (good place to hide out) and the Republic has become too weak/beaurcratic to do much out on the fringes. Remember, Amidala is young, sheltered and idealistic.

The Dark Side of the force prays on strong passions, and actually corrupts a mind towards evil if those passions aren't well tamed.
To address this, the Old Jedi Order takes the approach of muting all passions. Sever all attachments. No passion, no problem.
Kind of works, but only because they take Jedi as babies.
Anakin is passionate, has a rough childhood, and is especially attached to his mom.
Jedi completely unequipped to deal with this individual, but they're too set in their ways to even realize.
Palpatine sees this coming a mile away, sets himself up as the father figure that the Jedi would never provide.
Anakin loses his mother because he never saved her because he was too busy with Jedi stuff.
    Anakin gets married in secret.
    Yoda tells Anakin to:
    >Let go of that which you are afraid to lose
Not a fricking option for Anakin Skywalker.
Jedi Order has literally no other approach to deal with this problem.
Palpatine steps in to fill the void.
    >"Hey, come to the dark side, it'll help, I swear"
    No-brainer for Anakin.

he realized the jedi order were hypocrites trying to control everything. they enforced the balance of the force but it was literally unbalanced toward the light side.
you see, the dark and light side are just made up. only the force itself is legitimate, doesnt matter how its used.
the problem comes when abusing the force corrupts the soul which what happened to anakin. luke didnt want want to be addicted to what evil shit he could do with the force like his dad.

      >get's passed over
      >thinks his wife has a life threatening issue
      >get's denied any help on it
It all makes sense. The prequels were a stealth Postal adaption

        Anonymous

There was nothing stealthy about the prequels treatment of Anakin, he was mistreated and it was a setup orchestrated by Palpatine/Sidious. The only stealth in the prequels was the clone army and the droid army being produced by the same people and it's only stealthy if you weren't paying attention.

What makes you think that Yoda and the council knew it happened?

Yoda did sense Anakin's pain during his revenge on Tatooine (Attack of The Clones). The start of the revenge rage scene and Yoda having feels scene. The bigger question is why was Padme still attracted after he raged at her "I killed them all, ALL of them, children, women..." Padme isn't any better than Anakin. Lucas got his point across, this is NOT about good vs evil.

Like mother, like daughter. Both have a thing for dangerous, exciting bad boys but with a vulnerable, childlike side so they can mother them. Both Padme/Anakin and Leia/Han have pronounced maternal undertones.

As an adult I can now see why people hated the prequels. There is a lot of stupid shit in them. But they are still infinitely better than the sequels. At least the prequels had decent action. Cool characters doing cool things. The sequels couldn't even manage that. I unironically think the hyperspace ship weapon was the best scene in all of the sequels, just because it was a cool visual effect.
