If he was such a badass, he would have taken out the Hokage and the elders with his Dad. There are great shinobi wars like every 10 years, he didn't prevent shit.
He prevented other Countries from invading due to their showing weakness when the capital gets taken over by the police.

The Uchiha have always been borderline Warmongerers, they wanted complete control of the capital of one out of 3 major Countries.
All of which are constantly at war to a degree (literally the trigger for Pain and his Plan) and only haven't gone full out because they are afraid what the other will do.
They have their nuke equivalent with the 9-tailed Beasts and each of these countries has at least one.
Now comes along the Uchiha Clan, taking over the City in which the most powerful of these Beasts resides, with it widely known that they are able to force their will onto said Beasts.
And after all that you want to tell me that the Land of fire wouldn't have to start a civil war to get said capital and super Weapon back.
Or that the surrounding countries wouldn't start an all out invasion out of fear or at least claiming it to be.
The Uchiha being killed is also dangerous but not remotely comparable, also they are just one of the more important clans in a City with a dozen or more.
Lastly, he was supposed to work as a snitch, not to kill enemies of the state.
Especially when he can't even be sure that he is taking out the top dog instead of just some lacky and more importantly if he can defeat them at all.

He likely send small bits of highly important information on the people in the Akatsuki and their overall plans and goals.
It is also never explained where all the more detailed info from Bingo Book and whatnot come from.
The only one who ever had any real intel on the akatsuki was jiraiya, and judging by the time the two of them fought they were not cooperating with each other.

I'd like to add, Naruto's talk no jutsu is probably the most underrated part of the show. Just imagine if Fugaku and Hiruzen just talked it out and figured out a solution. Or make Fugaku hokage, he's not maniacal like Madara. The Senju really do try and keep their own in positions of power, it's pathetic.

I am willing to defend some of the story and Itachi's ark, but Naruto started as a cheese with some Plot holes and Shippuden ended as a Blackhole with Gundams.

Claiming you can control the 9 tails and actually doing it are way different things. Complicit implies he actually did it, he just theorized it. It's easy for the Senju to be peaceful when they're in charge of everything.

Series should have ended after the Pain arc and then just followed it up with a 1-on-1 finale focusing on Naruto vs Sasuke. As fun as the whole Obito-Madara clusterfrick was, it was still a clusterfrick.
