Expecially in season 3
Did anyone notice how jaded Katara had become throughout the course of the series, more so than the other characters? Even as a child born intp a world torn apart by warfare and bloodshed she maintained her bubbly, caring personality at the beginning but by the end of the show, having confronted her mother's killer, witnissed the horrors of war, learned of her bloodbending, and was forced to swallow her pride and forgive an old enemy, she became much more jaded and cynical despite still caring about her friends and future. I wonder if she regained any of her childhood innocence in the post-war period.
That's the realistic outcome of not only growing up, but growing up having to deal with all the shit you mentioned
Though you could also see it as personal growth. S1 Katara would've iced the dude who killed her mom
Doesn't the show only last like a year or two?
Yeah, but war changes people pretty fast, especially when you're traveling with the Avatar.
Dude, everyone ends up jaded. Childhood innocence belongs in childhood, because you haven't had experience of how shitty the world is and how little other people care about it. It's just the way it is. You never regain innocence, you just turn your jadedness into something else - be it apathy or a belief that you can help the world improve somehow.
Natural result of being the team mom. Think about the desert episode; Aang is too angry to think straight, Sokaa is stoned out of his mind, and Toph is actually blind for once. Katara is the only one trying to keep the group alive at that point.
Cactus juice do be like that tho
What are you talking about? She never became jaded.
She was side character #2, the love interest.
That sounds like actual growth of a character.
Lol no. There's multiple times in the show where Katara's:
1. Gets proven wrong
2. Gets her faith/morality questioned
3. Character and identity as a Fire Nation victim challenged
>and was forced to swallow her pride and forgive an old enemy,
She wasn't forced to forgive Zuko? For starters Katara and Zuko almost came to an understanding during their time in the cave, but it was permanently broken when Zuko pulled the biggest Uno Reverse. Secondly, when Zuko "joined" Team Avatar, no one really had to accept him, sure they acknowledged that he's with them, but none of them were forced to like or accept them. Each member goes on an adventure with Zuko in which both of them grow. Katara and Zuko's focus episode shows Katara's transition into accepting him.
As for her being "cynical" or "jaded" I'd argue that's not really true. She really just grew up and stopped being naive about the world and people, the moment she learned to let go and forgive Zuko and the other fire bender, she basically balanced herself and emotions.
I think you're mistaking being overpowered with having potential or talent.
Toph didn't really start off as the best. If it wasn't for her being inherently blind and hanging out with moles she'd never figure out she had a gift for metal bending.
Sokka just learned as much as he could and his experiences helped him become better and smarter overall
Katara was already "good" at water bending, her powers initially tied to her emotions and she was very inconsistent when doing specific skills until she actually took the time to learn properly. The best example IMO the showcases Katara's technical and emotional skills at bending was with Zuko fighting Azula
Zuko was just like Katara, but his traumatic past hindered him from excelling. The moment he cooled his anger, he learned to fire bend more effectively and use lightning more effectively as well
>I think you're mistaking being overpowered with having potential or talent.
I think you're mistaking the point. The point is that everyone is very good bending to the point they beat grown ups with ease. Katara's on a team of prodigies and hard workers that become powerful later on. She doesn't stick out because of it.
She beat Azula, who was matching Zuko, during the day of the comet.
So she's 10 time stronger than Zuko, which make her by far the second strongest of the time.
That's hardly 'not sticking out'.
>she's just standing there
>MENACINGLY
why are water Black folk so moronic?
Same anon.
That's not really true though? The Fire Nation kept sending out jobbers until the started to actually realize they were a threat. The Fire Nation soldiers are practically A:TLA's Storm troopers, the moment they or a specific Fire Benders like Zhao, Azula/Mai/Tai, did they actually have to work to beat them or win.
>She doesn't stick out because of it.
I have no idea what you mean by this. Katara herself is a prodigy and a hard worker, so I'm not sure why you're distinguishing her from the rest like this. Could you clarify this point?
>So she's 10 time stronger than Zuko, which make her by far the second strongest of the time.
I highly doubt this, but even if this was hyping things up, I disagree that Katara is the 2nd strongest. If Azula was coping more or was actually sane, I doubt Katara or Zuko would've win, since the thing that makes Azula dangerous isn't her skill, but her lack of consideration for others (especially her enemies)
>Katara herself is a prodigy and a hard worker
What do you know? So is the rest of the team!
she's a c**t that doesnt deserve aang
No
The part where she told Sokka he didn't love their mother the way she did made me lose alot of respect for her tbh. He never even got an apology for that.
Non-Benders are inferior subhumans
Showing her flaws makes her a good character and the opposite of a mary sue. I'm sure he got an apology offscreen
Yes
A Mary Sue has to come later, but they did give her a massive boost to her water bending skills out of nowhere towards the end of season 1. Originally they establish Aang was better, makes sense, he's the avatar and then suddenly she's much better and that's before she even receives Northern water training.
I liked how while Aang could bend all four elements each of his teachers were clearly more skilled within their own elemental. Toph was the better Earthbender, Zuko was the better Firebender etc. I'm just not in love with how they got Katara to the power level she was at in Books 2-3
I like how Aang managed to find an old wise sage type mentor teacher for each element but he still got trained by a bunch of kids anyway.
>the fricking lion turtle
Ten years later and you are still seething about a kid not murdering a guy.
Not really, I just find it ridiculois how an animal is a better mentor than literal demi-gods, the plot of Avatar dropped off badly after the eclipse/day of the black sun anyway, there's a reason why S3 has the fewer episodes.
Also speaking of that, I think the point of Aang not killing Ozai is using his power with justice similarly to Katara not doing a fatality on that FN soldier (well, she mercilessly did that to one that was just defending himself but moving on) who killed her mother, but the guy was living a miserable life, Aang almost got himself killed for muh morals, that pointy rock is the real hero of ATLA.
>Blood bending is le BAD
>blood bends some FN soldier
>Blood bending is still BAD THO
Aang taught her very well
Aang and Katara both probably did alot of off-screen bending practice during their travels.
At first I read this as "Aang and Katara probably did it a lot off-screen"
It was an odd choice to make her a master water bender overnight but they(the writers) were rushing to find aang a teacher and it was convenient to have someone who was alreay journeying with him and it's a way for them to make Katara competent because everyone in the team was absurdly good at something for their age.
> the team was absurdly good at something for their age.
That's the kid show aspect combined with named character power, better than almost all the adults, some of whom have been training for longer than they've been alive.
People call Avatar an anime for a reason.
bawd who probably rided the enemy's dick
>
not really, Aang probably would have been executed if it wasnt for The Blue Spirit at some point, the FN soldiers not using the same tactic again is quite the plot hole.
Also, I like Zhao as a villain, but he jobbed badly, Combustion Man lost to fricking Sokka but he was more of a threat to the group itself at first, Zhao at times acts like an insecure woman, on her 40s woman.
>aang is the avatar aka chosen one
>toph starts off as the most powerful earthbender
>sokka goes through a dozen level ups and becomes the leader, tactician, genius, etc.
>katara learns healing, sweatbending, and bloodbending
>azula is a prodigy that conquers an entire city and can take on all the heroes and only lost because she went super crazy
>zuko had to work his ass off just to keep up
Everyone was OP. Except Zuko. He was pretty strong but nothing amazing compared to the others.
Pretty much this. Zuko is supposedly another "master" bender on the team but he's always matched up against chasing a master airbender and fighting other master tier fire benders
>azula is a prodigy that conquers an entire city
>zuko had to work his ass off just to keep up
I will stop you right there:
first Azula being a prodigy that is simply handed things for free was a meme that Zuko fell back on every time his own lack of effort got a better of him
Zuko had shitty work ethic, wasn't one to train a lot and relied on his raw talent more than any of the character in the series
which is why he was able to sharingan abilities from other elements and benders and use them as his own, he also came up with some unique techniques, but if he tried something once or twice and it didn't immediately worked he become frustrated and had a hiss fit showing that he never really had to try hard to learn anything
and second Azula was the hardest working and dedicated person
she put the most effort into her bending, literary sacrificing her childhood to master the element
also Azula's work ethic was flawless as we can see her practicing techniques she mastered already just to make sure that she is always at the top of her game
and it has nothing to do with Azula being some mary sue prodigy - as opposed to her brother, she wasn't so lucky to just have parent figures love her without any effort on her part, Ursa hated her and thought she was a monster, while all Azula was trying to do was to get some attention, and Iroh hated her and wanted her dead
Azula is a tragic character that always tried her best to follow what she thought was the right path, and you can't say that she was some one dimensional evil monster like Ozai, because we not only see her caring about other people on multiple occasions, she also is way less violent and physically abusive than Zuko - even her greatest victory, the capture of Ba Sin Se, comes with no casualties
Zuko is a violent brute, that uses his raw talent to catch up to and overpower Azula that had to work hard her whole life, and I am tired of people pretending otherwise
Stop making this thread.

That's what she served as under Ba Sing Se in her cell with Zuko.
And probably when he kidnapped her with the pirates.

>ip count didn't go up

She's shota Zuko's property.
e-girl azula would be the type of girl to seduce old men just to have them executed.
And then get rape corrected by her brother.

>thread starts out with legitimate discussion
>now it's just Azula and Zukogays going at it
Mary sue whining is never a legitimate discussion.
I don't fricking care, anything is preferable to Zucest shitposting
You do care and seeing you cry is very funny.
e-girls are superior.
I legitimately don't, Katara was perfectly in line with everyone else power-level wise. What I do care about is not having every ATLA derailed by Azulagays jacking each other off
>I don't, that's why I'm whining
You care so much.
show me the post where I "whined" about Katara being a mary-sue
I never said you whined about Katara specifically, you're very much whining tho.
Nah
Cry harder.
project harder
>No u
Be careful to not drown with all those tears on your face
your mother doesn't love you
What happened to not caring? You sound update.
>You sound update
>Zucest superiority is making yet another homosexual lose their mind
Zuko WILL frick Azula in every single thread and you WILL like it.
>b-but muh OP secondary character

Hateboner Katara threads exist since 2005.
>no breasts
>no ass
e-girls are shit
this, you're a homosexual op
>sokka still mad about being dressed up as a troony
lmao
>0 ass
>0 breasts
>1 dicky
who cares it was a bad show
Azula is not powerful, if Team Avatar weren't moronic and didn't have the ''you shall not kill'' rule then they could had killed Azula back in season 2, Azula on the other hand fought her battles with the internet to kill and had no regard for the lives of anyone even for innocent children like Tom Tom this is why she was such a threat
but if Aang and his companions weren't pacifist gays Azula would never stand a chance against him and the war would have ended earlier
Pretty sure Aang killed that bunch of FN soldiers whom got flung of off the top of the Northern Air Temples, got his fair ammount of murder attempts against Azula, Sokka basically joined to crack FN skulls and I dont think Zuko entered the Throne room with two brand swords to offer Ozai a brand new-cut to his shitty beard to mention a few cases.
Azula received parental love, at least on Zuko's eyes which we later discover that's not so much the case since she always had to be "perfect", pretty hard to receive some when your dad is such a non-character anyway.
Zuko was also nurtured in being the "brute" he was on the series just like Azula was nurtured to be the "perfect" anti-social teenage soldier we see on the series, both able to take out entire batallions of men. I disagree with Ursa hating her though, she tried her fair ammount of times to bring her back on the road, there's barely any proof that Iroh ever actually liked Azula though.
>Jerk Douglas
he's gotten a bit better at his work, I am still deciding if Zucest is on character or not but I really want to know if there's a 2nd part to that
how?
Not entirely wrong. That's exactly why Korra turned out the way it did. Even back in the day they were always jerking themselves off over their "strong" female characters.
Mary Sue/Gary stu means nothing anymore because people just attach it to characters they don't like without explanation
