Actual Season 1 Frasier isn't a wig. Its called a Natural Skullet since he's advanced balding and the remaining hair forms a mullet without the front. Thus, Skullet.

honestly he doesn't pull it off, the long hair looks stupid on him. I will however say that frasier looks great despite balding. In fact, I wouldn't even call him balding. He's a frickin norwood enjoyer.

I mean I'd just serve a fino/manzanilla sherry in little 3oz aperitif glasses from a bottle in the fridge, along with some salty curred meats/cheese before dinner

The last season is good. There are some good episodes but the dip is noticeable enough that I remembered being bored fairly consistently.

For the final season they lured back their two top writers who left after season 7 and after some seasons with too many bad storylines and characters, deliberately tried to do a back-to-basics season with a lot of classic Frasier episode formulas (the third episode is a farce about Frasier being mistaken for gay), and it worked. I'm still glad they ended it there, though.

            >Frasier being gay
Is that the gay opera episode? If so, that's a remarkably great episode for such a late season.

              Anonymous

No, that's season 7 ("Out With Dad"). Same writer, though, Joe Keenan. When he first joined the staff he wrote the episode where Frasier's boss thinks he's dating Frasier while Frasier thinks he's dating Daphne, and "mistaken identity gay farce" became enough of his trademark that it was the frist thing he wrote on coming back to the show in the last season.

Ah, I really should brush up on the behind-the-scenes production lore. That's interesting how a writer could define himself by such a narrow trademark yet knock it out of the park.

His other niche was Bebe. She was there before he arrived but in seasons 2-5 Keenan wrote a Bebe episode every year.

Hm, the Bebe episodes that I remember don't stick out in terms of their quality (or I might be conflating them with Frederick episodes). The first ever episode I watched was "My Coffee with Niles" which, in retrospect, seemed tailor-made for new viewers — though I believe it was a season finale. Funny how such interests begin...

They sherry on this show is for the most part bullshit
Frasier talks about amontillado, but they are never drinking that in the show, which is a more amber colored liquid
There's the other scene where you see Fraiser filling his decanter with a bottle of HaRvEY's BRisToL CrEAm which is fricking unconscionable
Most of the time, it looks like their drink a dry fino sherry (pale yellow), which theoretically could be kept for a few days in a cool room-temperature decanter, but it would need to be replaced frequently, which I guess it could be
Overall, the show handles sherry abysmally

It should probably be little snifter glasses of a high quality brandy (the brand/vintage could be off-handedly mentioned in some episode, for style points)
It could sit in an air-tight container on a shelf like Fraiser keeps his sherry plausibly, and be a good apertif for dine in guests or pre-concert soirees

Can tell by the lapels in one of the above pictures they were, as was de rigeur, wearing Armani (or Armani-style) suits, which were a reaction against the flared or close fitting lines of suits of the 70s and 60s respectively. They were loose, drape style cuts often double breasted. They suited a larger frame, less so a thin one like Niles (much how slim fitting suits of the recent generation didn't suit big guys.) Niles did himself no favors by choosing the more fastidious double-breasted suits as opposed to frasier's single. The nature of style, especially for men's business casual-to-formal wear, is that of a generational trend rather than one that each individual decides suits themselves, pardon the pun. Sometimes one suits the prevailing style, sometimes not, but they had quality suits that were the best of that generation.

Sherry sucks, but the giant barrels they age sherry in are used in the production of Scotch whisky. Sherry has been dropping in popularity for decades, which makes good sherry casks harder to find and more expensive for scotch distillers. I admire that Frasier tried to bring sherry back, also that Frasier had a Glenfarclas 25 year.

Sherry barrels are often just seasoned with sherry destined for vinegar. Some bodegas' business is basically seasoning barrels for a short time with cheap sherry for whiskey distillers to reuse. Even big name brands that charge a premium for their barrel aging were just seasoned with immature sherry that was never bottled. The reason sherry casks are scarce whereas they once were plentiful is simply a matter of barrels no longer being used for transport. That was why there were so many decent barrels floating around 100 years ago, though they were just used for economic reasons--they weren't very expensive to buy used. Today and in the past, almost all sherry bodegas reuse and recondition their aging barrels over and over again. The reconditioning involves sterilising the barrels with a sulfur candle; when those barrels are spent they fricking reek but they're nonetheless sold off the distillers---in fact, almost all barrels, real barrels used for aging or merely seasoned barrels purchased from vinegar distillers by big brands, are sterilised with sulfur before shipping to prevent mold and whatever. It's a disgusting thing all around and sherry barrel aging is almost always some bullshit marketing; if not that, they're extremely expensive when someone can find legit casks that were truly used for aging a quality spirit/wine for a productive length of time, or Bourbon barrel aged which is legit because they're the only distilleries that have a surplus of quality barrels as they are only allowed to use them once for Bourbon so produce a huge supply.

Yeah it does. It is one very small step above a dessert wine. Always struck me as weird that Frasier had this thing with sherry because it is weak and overly sweet and really not something you would ever offer a guest.
