Star Wars has long since been more than just the movies, it's fine if you only want to watch the movies but you can't say there are no answers to questions you're asking when you refuse to touch anything outside the movies.
Extra media has always been a thing with Star Wars, with official tie-in books releasing after A New Hope. This is what Star Wars has always been, an entire Empire of media, an entire Universe unto itself.
