This. The vast vast majority of YouTube watching is passive viewing of longer videos or music. The monetization, if anything, has only encouraged longer videos since its inception, not shorter ones.

Yep. in around 2008 they implemented an algorithm to check for copyright content and nudity/gore. And since most of the content from 2005-2006 was MTV or anime tv recordings, a ton of videos were affected. They're "blocked" (or privated).

Interesting fact about the nudity/gore checker algorithm was that it was often wrong. It would delete videos which infract no rules for 0 reason.
Youtube has just been going more and more to shit. I like to think the nail in the coffin was when Google bought it out around 2010/2011. Around 2013 was the removal of customizable profile pages, messaging, and several other features. That's when many youtubers jumped ship.

On the PC it's alright due to adblock, BUT on a smartTV it's fricking rage. The ads slow everything down, and even routinely crash the TV while loading. It's funny how my TV can handle long-ass 2+ hour vids in 4k with no prob, but the 15-to-30-second ads routinely crash. Youtube brought the "idiot box" concept online. TV had already been dealing with "tv for idiots" for a long time before and after the massive amount of reality shows every channel started having. Even educational channels started having stupid reality tv shows. Youtube didn't do anything new. Vlogs, reviews, educational, gameplay and entertainment shows where already a thing on tv, it just went online, and became segregated. Now Tik Tok is really moving the bar towards a lower attention spam, and literally just needing to bounce your ass to become famous.

Early wild west YouTube was kino. Now every video is the same shit. Nothing actually creative anymore. Just F level garbage media that makes straight to redbox schlock look like high art. It's disgusting what commercialization does to creativity.

youtube "essays" are the peak of midwit shit and you can't talk about video games or movies without a bunch of morons giving opinions they got from some guy on youtube at this point

You are a total fricking moron because twitch came out before YouTube as justin.tv and those gays were always drinking they're mitin dew and ignoring YouTube.

YouTube didn't ruin anyone attention span cell phones did, and people aren't watching YouTube video on they're phone they are shit posting on Facebook or where-ever like tik tok, which isnt even available on PC for no reason.

Viewers have always had an NPC mindset, have we forgotten to gorge lucas and his fans?

It's not the same as old youtube, but I still browse z0r from time to time to get my dose of nostalgia. It's also an interesting time travel machine, people are still loading stuff up today

z0r.de, it's a collection of flash animations that started around 2006 if I'm not mistaken. Was also my first contact with chan culture before I ever came into contact with chans.

im not even a pewdiepie fan but the fact he was able to become one of the richest youtubers on the planet completely by creating his own content by himself is fricking amazing.
and if you dont think that is cool you're probably a moron.
Youtube is getting shittier but the fact it still is an outlet for an individual to create shit they are interested in is amazing.

I'm not going to shit on Youtube when there is content on it more entertaining than the shit hollywood is pumping out and regurgitating

YouTube also demonetizes or censors anything too edgy, including most true crime content.

Convenient that a youtube thread is up when I was about to make one.

Why does youtube continually keep pushing moronic bullshit updates? How come every time I search something on youtube they blend in videos that are completely unrelated? It was bad enough when they divided it with "videos you may like" but now they just don't give a shit. Videos that are unrelated will just straight up be stacked right next to videos actually relating to what i'm searching. fricking christ it's so fricking stupid, does this actually help them somehow? Are mindless morons searching something up and clicking on these videos that aren't related?
