Lana is fricking lame and I hate that they keep making class companions killable in the main story so they don't have to write any more content with them.

there can't be proper sith characters in disney star wars, only spineless c**ts like who are """grey""" (a regular jedi but with a different name)

Lana was evil though just more logica rather than cartoonishly evil, and more polite like Count Dooku

    No. They can't.
    Women suck at Star Wars.
In the lead role, in the producer role, in the director role, in anything other than a supporting role in metal bikinis, women suck at Star Wars.

That was Lucas’s plan from the get go.
Darth Talon starts falling in love as she plays a sith double agent throughout the sequel trilogy while Darth Maul tries unite the imperial splinter remnants with the infrastructure of organized crime to overthrow the new republic.

Sure. Maybe not for the reasons you think. But there's a lot of meat there to chew on narratively.

Recently had a long conversation with some friends about Disney's "The Force is Female" stance. We came to the conclusion that not only is the Force decidedly masculine, the Jedi including force sensitive women in their ranks with zero separation (think: nunnery) is completely illogical.

      could you elaborate?

It was an insanely long conversation to go into much detail on here but the gist is that the primary service that the Jedi perform for the Republic is the segregation and destruction of superhumans who would undermine glorious democracy if they managed to get into positions of power. They do this by hunting down force sensitives via state sponsored mass blood tests and recruiting them into their cult as early as possible to make them into utterly selfless assassins who then "keep the peace" by killing the force sensitives they missed that turn to the dark side - a purely negative aspect of the force that changes your personality and forces you to obsess about dominating others.

We picked at how such an institution would function in order to maintain purity within their own ranks and how it would - in addition to valuing celibacy - segregate the sexes in order to make romantic attachments less likely. A Jedi falling to the Dark Side is bad enough, but two falling together would be extremely difficult to contend with.

The Force being masculine part mostly had to do with how all of the ways it presents itself is in physical prowess/feats of strength (lifting rocks i guess?) and very rarely does it actually come into use in social hierarchy unless its being wielded by a Dark Sider. The Jedi do not seem to be like the Bene Gesserit which are extremely feminine in their role. They are Samurai/monks/chivalric knights. They stay in their convent reading the deep mysteries and usually only come out to do war.

There are many stories that do feminine wizards well. Dune/Witcher came up a lot. And they tended to fall squarely in the Dark Side camp as far as Jedi philosophy goes.

What’s the definition of masculine you’re working with? itt before lame dunks from the incurious, but depending how you slice it the Jedi (and Bene Gesserit) look masculine, feminine, or some mix.
The Jedi for instance are all about self-mastery, repressing/ignoring their dark urges, and connecting to the universe. There’s the masculinity of a monk but not of a warrior, and some would just call that feminine. The Bene Gesserit meanwhile train themselves intently for combat, and work in the generally male sphere of politics, but with scheming and advising and temptation, so if not unmasculine, at least devilish. But I’d still say they’re more active than Jedi are, and being active versus passive is one of the Big Things of masculinity. The Jedi’s involvement in the Clone Wars & Republic politics in general is framed as corruption of them, and also really dumb
And yeah the Sith are driven individual go-getters, but in that they’re also immature (at least). Being fueled by uncontrolled emotion is also pretty feminine
The Force, and Star Wars in general thanks to Lucas’ ideology, is definitely not masculine as distilled so perfectly into Conan. But it’s one thing to make a single Conan, another to fill an institution (as Star Wars, Dune, and any franchise that will outlast one character’s time require) with Conans. Maybe that’s part of the point

            Good points all.

I was thinking of masculinity from more of a theological - especially Buddhist - stance, since that is the motif of the Jedi. The idea of self-mastery, and repressing your base urges - seeking a state of zen rather than being emotional. Asceticism is a form of masculinity. The idea of the strong, silent servant of his people who keeps his sword sheathed unless absolutely necessary. This is an important masculine trope for the majority of men who make up the soldiery and would be expected to loyally serve rather than lead. Kings are a minority of men. Conan is a minority of men. Still a good masculine trope though. Important in its own ways. Different than Jedi.

In contrast, femininity tends to focus on emotion and nurturing. The Bene Gesserit embody that well as the sex selectors for the powerful men of the Imperium. They are capable fighters, yes, but that is secondary to their role as advisors and as storytellers: to shepherd the masses with their myths and superstitions. Necessary manipulations. Like the fairy tales a mother would tell her children to keep them from getting lost in the woods.

The Jedi do no such thing. In fact it seems that they do not evangelize in the slightest. Probably wise as to do so would risk allowing a renegade force user to tap into greater mysteries without their guidance and make them a more threatening opponent should they fall to the Dark Side.

Interesting, and makes a lot of sense. The Nietzsche-adjacent line of attack against that style of things always seemed lame cope by the people the Sith are an archetype of
See what I’m interested if you’re saying, and then if it is the case, that the monastic ideal is the single manifestation of (good) masculinity, or if it’s one of several. Conan and it feel fairly exclusive, but is that just due to difficulty and lack of imagination?
Additionally I’d say the Bene Gesserit know emotion well for using it in manipulations, but they themselves aspire to frostiness and The Greater Good. Their Mothers don’t raise their offspring, Mohiam calls Jessica a b***h for falling for Leto and giving him a son, very Greater Good. Gotta finish Heretics, and then Chapterhouse to assess them better
It’s such a shame that the academy, and particularly in literature slash “gender studies” are so infested. These are interesting and important things to figure out, and it’d be a shame for the entire field (or at least the idea of it) to get thrown out from justifiable disgust

Yeah I'm not sure those different manifestations of masculinity are really competing. They just tend to express themselves more strongly depending on the role the man finds himself in. And even then, they don't go away at the extremes: a strong king is often thought of as a righteous one if he regards himself as a humble servant to his people and a silent, loyal samurai would be thought of as useless without his martial prowess to support his liege. Kind of a yin yang situation.

Also, you are totally right on your assessment of the Bene Gesserit. I'm not saying that to be a heroic woman is to be hysterical. Heroic femininity would similarly view emotion as something that needs to be moderated just the same as men. I think the difference comes from not losing emotionality as a domain for women to nurture and find a consensus of feeling within the collective. I think in a way the Bene Gesserit might've gone to far because Jessica is a character that I would rate as one of the more archetypal heroic female characters for giving into her love for her man and for allowing her son to flourish as a hero.

                >Gender studies and academia
Everything is so fricked up man seriously it's bad. We are losing things the further we go. Hurtling towards a dark age.

Very little to add 😛 Just glad to know at least some others realize emotion can actually be a good useful thing instead of something just stepped on for le facts and logic. Get you one who can do both, golden mean, temperance, etc. etc. etc…
Can’t wait to see some girlbosses using modern slang made the Bene Gesserit to smash the patriarchy later this year
And yeah things are bad, but collapse and barbarism are always knocking no matter what, no excuse not to fight hard now. And who knows what it really felt like to be, how much fear of collapse there was everyday, in any other rebound period of history?

Connecting everybody through the power of emotions and having the way to access it be “turning off your targeting computer,” negating your conscious will, is pretty feminine
At absolute minimum, light side feminine, dark side masculine
      This matches Lucas’ thoughts

I am a raging coomer but this is the gayest shit I have ever read. Some b***h whose gifted literal magic powers in a universe where such as gift is incredibly rare. Instead she uses what every other female in the galaxy has to kill Jedi? Can’t they like sense the dark side and shit? What makes her cooch more special than any other? Does it possess force powers? Can she wield her vegana as one would wield a lightsaber? How is a pussy a greater force than say lightning or moving objects, or choking someone? Can she choke dick? Can she by use of the force coax men to greater levels of orgasm? Frick this just pisses me off by merely thinking about it. Jesus, you can just tell the fedora tipping homosexual who came up with this moronic idea was stroking his own pecker while doing so. Just think about it critically for half a second and the entire premise just falls apart.

I mean, we know mind tricks already exist, the extra element could just make it strong enough to whammy the strong-minded. Making an army of mindbroken simps seems like much more effective - and more unique - character plan than just killing them, though
