Why was this film hated again? It's a solid De Palma thriller.

Nicholas Cage went full Shaman.
everything after the opening sucks
They fricked up the ending. The hurricane was supposed to completely flood and frick up Atlantic City to 'biblically' wash away the sins of the den of evil that was AC but De Palma fricked up making it so they came up with some other shitty ending instead.
Nah, it was solid up until gary Sinise is revealed to be the bad guy.
Also, funny story. Gary Sinise plays a character called Kevin Dunne. The actual actor named Kevin Dunn was in it (he was the sports reporter guy). When they started shooting, he went to check into the hotel where the cast and crew were staying. The hotel check-in staff got confused and thought he was Gary Sinise so they checked him to the luxurious suite reserved for Gary Sinise. They realized soon after and relocated him to a shittier supporting cast hotel room.
>Nah, it was solid up until gary Sinise is revealed to be the bad guy.
Nah I don't see that. It was predictable anyway. The drama and thriller between the two make the movie really.
The flashback bit of the boxer fighting that fat braggart Cuban other boxer frick is kino though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLerNbWqCJQ
>Nah, it was solid up until gary Sinise is revealed to be the bad guy.
i agree, to balance out what the other anon said. i love the first half a lot. that long one shot in the beginning is depalma firing on all cylinders.
fricked over by the studio in the cutting room
also it peaks in it's first 10 minutes
>fricked over by the studio in the cutting room
How so? Apparently they changed the ending but the original ending sounds moronic
They all got Snake Eyes
Is it hated? I thought it was good
One of the greatest films of the 90s. Cage + De Palma = You can't lose
The score by Ryu Sakamoto is beautiful. Almost wasted on this movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OebhZGh6RQA
RIP Ryu-san ;_____;
Ah damn it was Ryuichi Sakamoto's score. It was great, reminded me of Pino Donaggio's scores for De Palma. I see that he did Femme Fatale's score also, another great De Palma thriller (and underappreciated).
I'm gonna watch this right now.
And I swear to God, if it's not at least a 7/10, I'll find you and rape you.
It's defs at least a 7/10. Cage overracts to frick as usual but it's a fun performance
It's better than The Untouchables. Always thought that one was overrated
>Femme Fatale
Oh shit, thanks for reminding me to go watch that.
Yeah The Untouchables isn't all that great. The railway station stair scene is fricking awesome though. I yelled "KINOOOOO" at the screen.
Yeah, I guess. He did the whole train station thing better in Carlito's Way tho
He has done the train station thing many times. I think most of his films have train stations. The man is obsessed with train stations I've noticed.
Don't forget the $200,000 or whatever shot he got of the concorde https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No2xc_5zd4I
I've almost gone through his whole filmography, but I haven't dared to dip into that one yet because of it's reputation. Is it really that bad?
Nah, it's fine. Bri's done much worse.Watch that shit, homie.
Aight I'm downloading this shit right now.
Enjoy
Bob Hoskins was the second choice for Al Capone and nearly got the role until De Niro's schedule cleared up and he got to do it. I reckon Hoskins would have done the better job, honestly.
What's the plothole again?
Now I think of it, it'd have to be an 'homage' to that bit in Battle Ship Potekin (sic?), right?
Yeah probably
I never liked the untouchables. It seemed curiously lifeless, as if filmed on very bare sets with next to no extras
I see a BDP thread, I post how much I love BDP. Simple as.
What's your fav borderline personality disorder movie?
Thought it was average when it came out, but it's masterpiece cinema compared to what's being released now.
Because it has a gaping plothole in it.
idk i think its a fun movie. nothing great but i enjoyed it. 6.9/10
i must be the only anon on Cinemaphile who hated carlitos way
Probably. Why the frick did you hate Carlito's Way? Also, what did you think of Scarface?
i dont recall why but i remember the feeling. i like scarface. my favorite of his is mission impossible for nostalgia reasons, but body double is my favorite "brian de palma movie" and i think its his magnum opus.
Always confuse Body Double for that Cronenberg movie
now thats one i have to rewatch, its been at least 15 years. i remembering loving it and thinking irons was fantastic, and genevieve bujold was kind of gross.
I always thought it was called Cage Snake Eyes.
It's good until the mystery is revealed halfway through
I haven't seen all of De Palma yet including this film but he seems to have a consistent level of corniness and melodrama. That probably became less tolerable to audiences as time moved on.
I'm about halfway through Snake Eyes right now, and it's not bad. But you're right, De Palma's films are never short on the cheese. As long as you go into his films expecting little more than B+ spectacles, they can be fun.
I always he did that cheese shit in reference to all those 1930/40/50' movies that pulled that shit.
Also, apparently he was buds with Orson Welles
>I always he did that cheese shit in reference to all those 1930/40/50' movies that pulled that shit
He had a serious obsession with Hitchwiener, I know that much
It's sort of his sense of humor. He's very self aware of that and at times it goes into parody territory (Body Double), but it doesn't take away from the soul/essence of the story/characters.
how is raising cain?
It's pretty good, a very typical De Palma story with all his tropes. Another one I don't get why it was hated.
It's no blow out but not bad. John Lithgow losing his mind
>John Lithgow losing his mind
Come on, now, that's always kino
You should be asking is obsession good? What was the go with The Fury? Why did audiences not like black dahlia?
i tried watching black dahlia twice and just couldnt get past the first 20 minutes.
I hated it the first watch too, youll finish it one day. Apparently de palma has the 3 hour directors cut
So, it's a slog? How's Josh Harnett in it? I never minded him as far as pretty boy actors go...
There's a boxing match then the infamous dahlia murder, it just might throw you off at the start
What's a cagesnake?
yeah it's vintage De Palma, not one of his better movies but kino nonetheless
so nobodys seen raising cain?
Not yet. Any good?
Is it better than Raising Arizona?
The opening is shot by the same steadycam operator as teh Copa sequence in Goodfellas
I didn't know it's hated? It's a pretty good movie
Every time I google 'Snake eyes movie' it always comes up with some crappy Netflix movie also called 'Snake Eyes' from 2018.
