It seems like if they ever get hurt/taken out by "Normal" technology or damage, its always electricity or lightning that hurts them (or a nuke)

Everyone weak to electricity in JLU for some reason.
Yeah
>Everyone weak to electricity in JLU for some reason.
Let's them avoid using bullets and gives some of the more broken supers that literally don't work narratively if you give them no fricking weaknesses something that can pose a threat to them.
The thing cartoon and movie writers understand that comic writers don't is that stupidly OP abilities tend to be a major player in bad writing.
>The thing cartoon and movie writers understand that comic writers don't is that stupidly OP abilities tend to be a major player in bad writing.
No, the major player in bad writing is lazy thinking like that. Obvious weaknesses are just as much a crutch as swiss army knife powers.
>No, the major player in bad writing is lazy thinking like that.
Lazy and bad aren't the same thing, m8.
As evidenced by the billion and one time travel plots that became fricked up nonsense because the writer wanted to do something different.
Sometimes lazy is just the way that works that everyone knows works because it always fricking works.
You can do unoriginal or safe plots well, but intentionally gimping yourself with extreme writing hurdles without a well thought out plan in place to deal with those hurdles is a universally shitty idea.
Darkseid would've conquered the universe a long time ago if he had Livewire's powers.
are they really "weak" to it?
getting hit by super-lightning and only getting knocked unconscious seems pretty amazing when the average human can be killed by a wall socket
they just seem weak to it because they can tank tank rounds without visible damage
but if you get hit by enough electricity to kill a water buffalo and all it does is stun you, thats still way ahead of normal human durability
keep in mind what a tank shell would do to a water buffalo.
>but if you get hit by enough electricity to kill a water buffalo and all it does is stun you, thats still way ahead of normal human durability
Not really, water buffalos are weak against electricity.
Look it's not that big of a leap. Kryptonians are organisms with a nervous system with electrical impulses, so naturally an electric current is going to frick them up. The only difference between them and us is the amount of amperage they can take. Furthermore if you need an autistic explanation:
>Kryptonians are living batteries that absorb various types of energy/radiation (most commonly solar)
>Pure electricity is something they can't easily absorb and fricks with their cells. Like putting diesel fuel in a gas engine
So yes its perfectly fine as a vulnerability, and why Livewire is a thing
>the average human can be killed by a wall socket
Deaths from 120v are fairly rare, and are usually the result of being shocked in water, holding hot in one hand and neutral or ground in the other, or otherwise being really, really, stupid.
Anyone is 'weak' to millions, possibly billons of volts of electricity getting forced into their bodies.
The only people who would be immune to it are electrical manipulators or someone who can absorb electricity.
Electricity is just really easy and common source of power that can constantly damage the Kryptonians. It's harder to get a force that will not only hit Superman hard enough to hurt him but do it unrelentingly until he's able to break contact.
And in this case, it's literally the entirety of their body.
Well, is there a strength difference between Kryptonian genders?
Superman has a BS near-unlimited strength meter.
To even put him down for the count, when he is really swingin' for the fences is hard af.
I think only magic lightning can do it.
Live Wire seemed to give Superman a hard time in TAS.
Then again, Timm straight up admits to hating Superman.
The thing is Live Wire isn't strong enough in TAS to outright overpower the Man of steel in a straight fight.
To this very day I wonder how a fight between Static Shock & Live Wire would go
A better matchup would be Livewire vs Lightning, Black Lightning's daughter.
Their powersets are similar, except Lightning can become more than electricity.
Not so much genders as Superman himself is probably just a bit tougher than every other Kryptonian they've encountered. That being said like the other anon pointed out, he needed a full body condom to effectively counter Livewire.
Can they even hurt eachother? Livewire probably has the upperhand because she can just ditch her corporeal form but if they're just trying to elctrocute eachother or Static tries to hit her with some metal shit, I don't think they'd really do much damage.
>Livewire probably has the upperhand because she can just ditch her corporeal form but if they're just trying to elctrocute eachother or Static tries to hit her with some metal shit, I don't think they'd really do much damage.
My /d/ brain thinks they would accidentally sync frequencies and merge to form one entity, a demigod of electricity.
Has Black Lightning encounter Livewire by the way? We could base it on that.
Young Justice has a scene where they fight and he says she can't handle BBC and electrocutes her.
My own thoughts is that, because they are designed to absorb solar radiation, they are a little more vulnerable to energy attacks in general.
Kryptonians are Flying-type, which is weak to Electric.
Also explains why they are weak to Rock(kryptonite), interasting
I honestly think it’s just that electricity is easy to draw and write around in superhero stories. It’s flashy and lasery but doesn’t leave any obvious direct visible permanent injury like a fireball or gunshot. It’s good for KO’s. Like how superheroes punch and kick so much instead of strangling each other to death or dismembering or cutting
Kind of what I like about the edginess of things like the boys and invincible.
I find their brutality reasonable in some instances, you're trying to kill each other, after all.
It's make you wonder why they bother making Kryptonian villains when they constantly have to depower them, kill them or make excuses for why they're out of the action whenever they appear a second time.
So Omni-man and Homelander can also suffer from electricity?
Homelander would get bodied in 5 seconds by omniman, superman, batman... pretty much anyone outside of his own universe.
he's a big fish in a tiny pond.
Assuming they are about our water% and use neurons for their nervous system, it makes sense that electricity would frick them up.
They're still regenerating like Wolverine.
Yeah, but the point is that their nervous system would be in some sort of shock for a time.
I figure a strong enough electric current can still make their muscles spasm, which results in the kryptonian hurting themselves.
Superman can withstand a super massive blackhole just fine, but some lightning will frick him up?
>Zio
Superman can get into a fist fight with a godamned angel of God and not be fazed.
He's not weak against lighting, he just doesn't resist it. Also his VIT is still high as frick
Sounds like a weakness to me dawg
Ya know, the brief mention of Static made me think about what would happen if Galatea and Static fought. Electricity clearly is effective against Kryptonians, even if it takes a lot. It’s how Livewire can fight Superman. Tea and Static are both teenagers, and are adept with their powers. I’d like to see them duke it out.
Galatea has a strength and speed advantage, but if Static can keep a distance or take advantage of her ego I think he could stand a chance, especially if he can use metal as a distraction.
