    >incredibly popular IP with mass appeal
    >people generally like Greta
    >Barbieland set design is 10/10
    >cute costumes
    >memorable musical numbers
    >Ryan Gosling steals the show, making the film worth watching by virtue of his performance alone
    >meme magic with Barbenheimer
    The mind boggles.

      >meme magic with Barbenheimer
Unironically only this counts. The IP was archaic, nobody knows or gives a shit about the lesbian director orr anything related to production. But the movie had a disgustingly big, intrusive and ultimately successful marketing campaign, the dumb masses ate it up, helped make it viral, turned it into an event out of chain peer preassure. It became ultra-memetic. Both this and Oppenheimer are shit films but that's a way a garbage film goes past the billion threshold, you turn your slop into a meme for the tiktok generation.

Because homosexuals love Ryan Gosling, and white women like Margot Robbie, because they are both generic attractive whites, and 99% of people are fricking morons that don't understand how to think and have balls

Simple. It's because it correctly targeted its main demographic. Unlike so many other blockbusters, it didn't try and appeal to everyone. They specifically made the film to appeal to white women millennials. And so that demographic loved it and showed up in droves.

people want to watch movies with white people in it, that tells an interesting and fun story
no one wants to watch ugly minorities in movies about thinly veiled commie subversion written by feminazis

they rightly crammed it full of controversial, feather-ruffling scenes and developed enough curiosity from the left and the right. gosling helped sell tickets although he ran out of good will with that one.

It was a chick flick aimed at chicks. When you know your audience and cater to them, you make money.

    >a dozen action movies with female leads absolutely shit the bed
    >movie about the most stereotypical girly thing to ever exist breaks records

Because it wasn't actually woke. Barbie cries multiple times in the movie just because her feelings her hurt. An actual "woke" female-lead movie would never have her shed one fricking tear unless it was in the third act death scene because they would think that makes their heroine "weak" or whatever.

Woke is when things are hitting a left-leaning checklist in an unnatural way. Dialogue is awkward, characters react in an unnatural way, ensemble casts all look like the Burger King Kids Club, characters are now figures of representation and aren't allowed to have certain flaws that would fit the theme or story. Female characters must demonstrate strength by taking charge and not allowing her emotions to get the best of her. Gay characters must have perfect "we'll work it out" relationships no matter how toxic the partner. Fat characters need to be just as athletically capable in a fight scene as Jackie Chan. There needs to be diversity regardless of time period or location.

Barbie embraces being rooted in 90's feminism. She's girly-girl out of choice, not obligated or peer pressure, and the only person who criticizes her for it is shown as being in the wrong (the daughter character). When a piece of media tries to paint women as being "just like men" instead of showing them as equals to men, that's when it becomes woke.

        >crying makes you weak
Uhhh… I thought it was the libtards who wanted people to do queer things like expressing themselves

They want men to be able to show emotion but think it's stereotypical and weak for women to do the same. They put higher hypocritical standards on women because every female character must automatically be a role model according to Hollywood. That's the conundrum.

I thought the joke at the very end about her going to a gyno was stupid at first but then thought about it again and realized it's subtly based. Because Barbie has turned into a human so has a vegana, and only real women have those. Definitely wasn't the intent but still funny to think.
