So I rewatched this and found it not as terrible as I used to think.
The pacing is excellent. No scene really drags on. Anakin and Padme's romance is beautifully intertwined with exciting Obi-Wan's investigation.
Shmi's funeral, even if it is a very short scene, features best Hayden's acting in the movie.
For some reason though the CGI looks outdated, much more than in TPM.
Overall, I enjoyed it.
You are clearly very drunk. Please go to bed.
You will never be young.
Maybe rehab is a solution you should explore
Merchandise for the prequels made Billions! Disney nu wars, by contrast, hasn't and never will make a dime! Disney Star Wars is dead!
My Mom bought me everything for Christmas.
George Lucas was merchandise king. Learned a lot he did from Kiss. They were the original merc kings!
It's a cozy slowburn film.
It was the first film to be fully shot on digital, as opposed to film with CG rendered on top. Revenge of the Sith suffers in the same way and gives that “soap opera” appearance. George gets a lot of flack, but he pushed digital into the mainstream.
>but he pushed digital into the mainstream.
Yeah and it has made all movies look ugly
TPM for all its faults looks great because it's shot on film
It sure does, shame the official home video releases are DNR’d to hell
kys
Attack of the CLones is the best Star Wars movie
You should check out the Hal9000 edits of the prequels if you enjoyed the love story arc. He added back a bunch of pretty pivotal scenes that for whatever reason were left on the cutting room floor.
>Hal9000 edits
Those look good. Thanks, I'll check them out.
>fan cuts
jesus christ no
>for whatever reason
The reason is pacing, dramatic flow, buildup of narrative tension. Stuff even a hack like Lucas knows more about than you do.
if you are truly go down that rabbit hole you could check this as well:
Why does she remind me of Laineyball in this pic?
And last but not least Padme was fricking sexy in this movie
>>From the moment I met you all those years ago not a day has gone by when I haven't thought of you. And now that I'm with you again... I'm in agony. The closer I get to you, the worse it gets. The thought of not being with you... I can't breathe. I'm haunted by the kiss that you should never have given me. My heart is beating, hoping that that kiss will not become a scar. You are in my very soul... tormenting me. What can I do? I will do anything that you ask. If you are suffering as much as I am, please, tell me.
Why are boomers so insistent that I dislike this movie?
So much soul… Duck fisney
I wonder why…
Art.
>20 year old movie has slightly janky effects
Am I meant to care?
Just ignore them. That scene looks great.
OT looks much better and it’s over 40 years old
If you think this looks good you have autism
>OT looks much better and it’s over 40 years old
Black person the OT was enhanced with the same modern CGI you're b***hing about. You aren't watching the 40 year old version
Yes and the cg they added looks awful
Go crawl back into your bottle Mike.
If you think that looks good your simply delusional
I'm genuinely curious but do the 'special editions bad!' people think that the handful of major changes (le dinosaur, han shot first, jabba's palace musical) are the only things changed?
The fact that literally every special effect in the movie was tweaked and countless mistakes/quirks fixed seems to go completely over your head.
The OT DOES NOT 'hold up' at all. Every single aspect of those movies from the lightsabers to the blaster effects has been remade from scratch using modern effects technology.
The handful of small technical fixes are overshadowed by the distracting and bizarre changes.
>there is a rock
>this literally destroys the movie
Why are boomers like this?
It’s the fact that Lucas added tons of completely pointless changes to the movies like Vader yelling noooo at the end of rotj.
how did R2 even get in there in the special edition?
It's a famous example of the stupid unecessary changes in the special editions. It isn't something that actually is a big deal at all, just hilariously pointless. Young Anakin's force ghost, Mos Eisley CGI, Vader screaming NOOOOO, Greedo shooting first, Boba Fett's voice, Jabba's Papace dance, those are the real fricking problems. And that's just the ones off the top of my head.
>Vader screaming NOOOOO
This is one of the stupidest changes because it completely throws any semblance of nuance
>Vader screaming NOOOOO
Mirrors the scene where he betrayed Windu for Sheev, only this time he makes the right decision.
More like it mirrors his cringey final line in ROTS
But how did R2 manage to fit in there?
But if you remove the rock then the question becomes "How come nobody saw R2 there?"
No.
because it is tucked against the rocks and isn't the first thing the sand people would notice when they are more occupied with Luke and is cruiser. Its more plausible than R2 phasing through rocks.
>phasing through rocks
whats this bizarre fanfic? R2 never phases through any rocks, in fact we never see him enter or leave the area at all
So did R2 warp there? How is could he fit in there when there is no wide enough passage for him to track through?
Is this genuine autism?
When you see someone looking out of a window do you assume they must have teleported through the window to get in there? Maybe I'm the crazy one here but I would just assume there's another way inside that I can't see, and I don't see how rotted your brain must be to not make a simple connection that most toddlers could grasp.
lol bait
no because you can see from this shot that is pretty closed up. Part of the visual language in films is know when you can allow the audience to infer something and or otherwise. There can incongruities in what you present that would require some sort of visual explanation. This was not done here, hence why people have a problem with it.
There are a bunch of welcome improvements, but it also adds an equal amount of absolute trash and even replaces actors with worse ones. A bunch of originally great moments are ruined. When you add all of it up, the special editions are just not worth it. The only decent one is Empire and even that one fricking replaces Boba Fett's voice actor. The other two are full of fricked up shit that completely take me out of the movie.
>even that one fricking replaces Boba Fett's voice actor
How is continuity a bad thing? Temuera is fantastic anyway
Surely you can see how petty crying over a fricking rock for 20 years is? It literally just makes the hiding spot a little more believable. You can't even tell it's CGI or added in post if you're not familiar with the older version
The original is 1000 times better and if you prefer Temura you’re probably an underageb& Filonigay.
>How is continuity a bad thing?
Continuity isn't a bad thing, but if it costs us a superior performance it's not worth it.
>a superior performance
Black person he has like 3 lines stop pretending the original voice of Boba Fett was some crucial part of the movie that it can't function without
It's not crucial or anything but it's still a part of the movie that was made worse. But like I said before, Empire special edition isn't so bad. It has more good changes than bad changes and is perfectly watchable. And Temuara isn't bad, just worse. Which still sucks and I don't see why you would defend it.
Because I like Temuera and it fits better with the new continuity. It would be worse to leave him with a voice that doesn't resemble Jango at all
If i remeber correctly the bluray release the made temeuras voice a bit raspier and sinister than the dvd edition
continuity on its own isnt bad, making changes just to support a franchise is. franchise whoring is whats wrong with star wars. making changes to a beloved movie is just perverse.
>franchise whoring is whats wrong with star wars
How were the Prequels franchise whoring lmao. It's literally a continuation of the same saga. The Clone Wars cartoon shit maybe, but that's not what we're talking about and had no bearing on the special editions anyway so it doesn't even make sense
ty for the (You)s
also you don't know what reddit spacing is homosexual
You don't really believe that and you know it
The thing walking across is so fricking unnecessary, ruins a great shot
Chewbacca doing the Tarzan yell is probably the most egregious change made by the newer versions. Was this in the original special edition release in 1997 or was it something changed later when George really didn't care anymore?
Pretty sure that was in the original version
>Doesn't have Harmy's despecialized versions
>watching fanfic
>Filonigay
Never watched the cartoons, cope
Half of that is continuity and the other half is shit so petty I don't understand why it makes boomers seethe so hard
>oomer lingo
>cope
>Harmy's despecialized versions
where can I find this?
George was experimenting.
I've seen you post that in a few threads. You know it's a physical set, and the only part that's CGI is out the window ... right?
Not wasting my time looking for a better production still.
Anyway, looks great, and I'd like to know what your malfunction is.
There is a physical set for his room yes but in that webm it’s clearly green screen. The movie being shot on digital just makes everything look fake.
>There is a physical set for his room yes but in that webm it’s clearly green screen.
Source, or you're btfo and coping, homosexual.
My sources is my own two eyes you tourist homosexual
Blown the FRICK out
You're both wrong. If I'm not mistaken this shot was taken in reshoots after the set was taken apart which is why the chairs in the hallway look like a printed board. There's clipping in the webm but we also see at the film's beginning that it's an actual set.
>20 year old movie
As opposed to brand new movies like this?
wtf is this shit
>drops gun when woman grabs helmet
KEK
I'm sad that the technique they were going for basically died with the PT, once CGI went mainstream everyone went straight for full CG environments instead of digital compositing the actors into intricately crafted miniature sets.
>Why are boomers so insistent that I dislike this movie?
It's disturbing.
>keeps talking about boomers
>reddit spacing
>Don't forget about the super sexy outfits that Padme wears when she's around Anakin.
You knew what you were doing, you baddie.
i rewatched it and thought it was far worse than i remembered
phantom menace is kinda good, but this is just awful, awful, awful
III > V > I > IV > VI >>>>>>>>>>> II
All of Portman’s costumes are amazing
Did they edit out her nips in the streaming versions?
Probably
Based opinion and I completely agree with you. I always love the Star Wars prequel trilogy movies no matter what. I can't believe it's been 20 fricking years since AOTC came out. Anyway, I love how the Rishi Maze in AOTC is named after me and my most favourite prequel movie is TPM.
UGH A FRICKING ROCK I'M GOING INSANE AGGHH
I concur. I watched it again two months ago and liked it more than I did before.
>not as terrible as I used to think.
Yes because there is now something even more terrible
are there movies with more diverse universes?
cope
Cherry pick as much stuff as you want, still won’t change how bad these movies look.
cope
looks good to me
kek, nice
>who casually threw around a droid army large enough to effortlessly conquer a whole planet
You mean an army that was beaten by a bunch of morons with blue balls and a child? Even the TF's leaders were shown to be bumbling idiots.
>of course any standing military would be dismantled after an era of peace that long.
Perhaps, but still there's no given reason why such an army couldn't have been mobilized in place of the clones, whose origin was shady.
>the Republic being a rotten cesspit of corruption
Well first off, I will still hold that this is poorly shown in the prequels. For example, everywhere in George's lovely CG landscapes we see endless prosperity and beauty. Wow, such failure. But besides that, wouldn't such corruption justify the Separatists in their actions? Why then should I care about the Republic's wellbeing? Again, what is at stake? What are the CG troopers fighting so hard for?
>there's no given reason why such an army couldn't have been mobilized
Not him, but to me the use of clones (and droids) shows just how decrepit the Republic has become. Neither side has the capacity or will to actually mobilize their people, instead relying on drone armies with no ties to any institution, or loyalty to any except their maker. Such a war does not need any kind of popular mandate beyond the elite level of the Senate.
Based, it's a good film
TPM cgi was amazing for 1999 tbh
Coruscant looks like an N64 game
For me, it's this scene
god the music was so good
>Shmi: "You can't stop the change, any more than you can stop the suns from setting"
>Anakin literally racing the sunset to save Shmi
Apologize
fricking ART
I'm SORRY George
I'm not crying!
personally i'm sad that lucas cut out the scene were padme stripteases in front of anakin and then invites three twilek prostitutes to join them for a fivesome
twenty pages of "they frick"
This movie starts off okay but ends as a fricking mess. That whole coluseum scene and plotline on that planet are stupid. Why not introduce Dooku in episode 1? Oh that’s right you forgot to leave a bad guy for this one.
Nothing saves that movie. Except for maybe the scene where Obi meets the clones
The Sith revealed themselves in TPM, Dooku wouldn't have been a Sith villain with a red saber and lightning hands at that point. Maul could have been the villain in all 3, but a Jedi defecting to the Sith (before Anakin) shows how the Republic and Jedi order was falling apart at the seams
>Oh that’s right you forgot to leave a bad guy for this one.
you mean other than Palpatine? fricking moron
This. AOTC got a lot of things right, but the end was weak. Especially the jedi appearing in the collusseum, it was supposed to be a triumphant reveal like the Merry Men rescuing Robin Hood, but they had no plan (which doesn't make sense because coordinating the attack took planning) and a lot of them get cut down easily. That was the first time you see jedi as dumb cannon fodder, for someone raised on the OT and TPM it was a jarring false note.
>for someone raised on the OT and TPM it was a jarring false note.
The eternal fanfichomosexual rears his head once again
Huh? I was 10 when aotc came out. Never read any fanfics
*VROOOOOoooooooOOOOOOM*
The last Star Wars movie was made in 1983. The prequels felt like fanfiction. Anakin in the prequels and Vader the in OT were two completely different people. I know tragedy and the dark side befell Anakin but some remnant of him should have still been visible in Vader. A human Vader would be closer to a Joe Friday from Dragnet; stoic and by the book.
>movie made by the original creator is fanfiction
He was a different person.
This is the worst movie ever made, every movie worse than this falls into the "so bad its good" category.
Its an achievement on itself really.
Totally deluded, deranged. I think it’s apt to talk about Lucas Derangement Syndrome because you morons exhibit the same symptoms as those assblasted by trump did
>Zognald shill is a star wars drone
I still have a Darth Maul and Obi Wan action figure from the Phantom Menace.
I'm sorry, George
This was the first guy I ever heard say that any of the Star Wars movies were bad.
All six of Lucas' films are masterpieces and if you don't read the comics, novels or play the videogames you aren't a real fan
When was that one of the Everyday guy raps?
He says "I'm bad like the movie Attack of the Clones, I'm dangerous like a fire in a nursing home." in I Kill People
Clones is based
as a piece of entertainment, it's better than Phantom Menace. This time, the characters have interesting personalities and some jokes are funny. Lucas's writing improved to an extent here
it has a nice 2000-2001 charm (Menace is late 90s and Sith is 2003-2004)
>Obi Wan and Anakin-Padme Romance scenes
>beautifully intertwined
Do prequelgays really
Meh, I liked it, especially Obi-wan vs Jango, despite its clunkyness, it was still the highlight of the movie for me.
Clones' dialogue is better than Menace. It has more punch. The characters aren't as robotically formal. They are more snarky and smart alecky. Just compare Obi Wan's personalities in both
Shrek came out while AotC was in production and audiences loved it in a way that they didn't Phantom Menace despite the hype. I imagine Lucas watched Shrek and went "maybe i should update my writing style. Add more snarky personalities to these characters"
there is no way Lucas didn't watch Shrek when it premiered. It was one of the earliest CG animation films and Lucas was obsessed with CG at the time. He went to see it
>It was one of the earliest CG animation films and Lucas was obsessed with CG at the time
homie Dreamworks was just copying Pixar at the time, which was a Lucasfilm creation
I keep saying that AOTC is the best of the prequels. Keep in mind that I hate them all, but this one is by far the most watcheable.
1 is boring trash and 3 is beyond pathetic in terms of how morons pretend that it's a good movie. 2 is trash but it's paced well, unintentionally funny and there are some good scenes like the chase/ combat scene between obi-wan and the masked homosexual.
>Anakin and Padme's romance is beautifully intertwined with exciting Obi-Wan's investigation.
okay you can stop here
Attack of the clones is the actual peak of starwars,
A magnificent straight camp movie. Amazing visuals, filled with symbolism, deep, varied locales. Strong characters, exciting developments.
Pacing is fast, but not excessively so. The violence and action ramps up into an explosive third act that really sells it all.
Fantastic movie all in all: 9/10
yep
looks like oldschool flash gordon
I know people hate on it but I love the melodramatic dialogue in the prequels. Wish more movies had this.
I'm a zoomer and i always thought that my generation was the nerdy and autistic generation since my parents who are boomers don't give a shit about technology or really anything created after 1980s and 90s. I watched the prequels when i was a kid and then when i got older i found out that 30-40 grown up manchildren literally bullied George Lucas into selling his fricking franchise because the prequels weren't exactly what those dumb fricking neckbeards wanted, and nitpicked it to death like no other movie ever. Literally Those Millenials/Gen Xers might be the most pathetic generation i've ever seen, making George Lucas sell his product because big babies couldn't handle that the movies weren't exactly as they felt it should be according to muh cannon and star wars lore (even though george is the fricking creator kek). The prequels are fine, enjoyable and have a great style of fantasy utopia to them compared to the gritty and realistic OT, all the manchilds achieved was getting disney to destroy star wars
>when i got older i found out that 30-40 grown up manchildren literally bullied George Lucas into selling his fricking franchise
It was astroturf. Hollywood lowballed Lucas, which drove him to go solo, and they never forgave him for 'fricking' them out of their 'share' of the billions he made. Millenelols liked it just fine. If there was any sperg out, it was RLM Gen Xers
It was boomers and gen x, millennials were children still when it came out. It was made for them.
Millennials loved it. They were just too young to voice their opinions, and the internet was not what it is today.
People tend to forget this fact.
Why do prequelgays keep pretending that Lucas is some poor outsider artist when he’s a multibillionaire businessman. If some billionaire is crying over what random people have to say about his shitty movies then that just makes him a total loser.
The unfortunate thing about George getting bullied out of the industry is that we will never get movies like he could make again.
You chose the “endless capeshit” future.
For as much as prequelgays like to claim this movie expands muh SW universe or whatever, AoTC fails to address even the most basic questions of its world:
>The origin of the Separatists is never explained
>The threat they pose is never significant, all we get is a roundtable of random people saying they're in
>We are never shown why the Republic needs a random, mail-order army with no receipt when its size should guarantee a large standing army anyway
Ultimately, there are no stakes and no reasons to care about any of the assets we're shown. All we are left with are seas of CGI robots and clones fighting each other because reasons. The Republic is failing because...it just is, okay??
/thread
Shart Wars has always been garbage.
This thread needs to kill itself.
>The Republic is failing because...
Because evil space satan wizard took over, duh!
>films are titled Star Wars
>prequels meant to elaborate on a throwaway line about something called the Clone Wars
>no war in I
>II and III only show the first battle and final two battles respectively
>the entire war is skipped over in the movies
>The origin of the Separatists is never explained
The origin of the Separatist movement is the previous movie, the Republic being a rotten cesspit of corruption and having a whole giant incident that cast a huge spotlight on that fact
>The threat they pose is never significant, all we get is a roundtable of random people saying they're in
A round table which includes the antagonist from the previous movie, who casually threw around a droid army large enough to effortlessly conquer a whole planet. Given that it is a round table, the viewer is led to assume that all of the other figures are of equal relevance and thus equal power and threat.
>We are never shown why the Republic needs a random, mail-order army with no receipt when its size should guarantee a large standing army anyway
It is said right in the movie that it has been over 1000 years since the Republic was at war, of course any standing military would be dismantled after an era of peace that long.
You are dumb.
>You are dumb.
Many such cases with prequel haters. The movies filter by IQ.
moron
Bot
Not an argument
The fabled strawman returns.
Sloppy bots
I’m a funny little R2 unit. Beep boop
just use your fricking head and all those questions are answered
the answer is literally "have white person iq"
The movie is dogshit and no amount of anti disney shilling will change that
You are delusional, sir.
The entire movie was worth seeing those gunships swoop in and obliterate the droids in the coliseum.
Doesn't fit, everything in the PT was new and exciting. The Soi drone only claps when they see something they recognize.
In my opinion it is arguably the best in the trilogy next to Revenge of the Sith
Turn off soap opera vision on your tv.
I like the bad CGI because it feels dated like an old black and white movie
