Bethesda fallouts are designed like the bombs fell a month ago, whereas the real fallouts (1,2,NV) had civilisation revuilding with multi-cities political entities (NCR) able to build new buildings and farm for their food

the dumbest thing is that all these abandoned buildings are full of valuable stuff that absolutely not one single person in 200 years has wandered by and stolen
especially in the 3D fallouts where these places are a literal 2 minute walk from the nearest inhabited settlement.
people looted Chernobyl when it was still white-hot. the soviet cops had to start shooting people who were bringing radioactive TV sets to sell in kiev. someone would've made the walk, in 2 centuries, to loot empty buildings full of stuff, even if it was just glass bottles.

The roads were freshly paved, the buildings recently founded, the street lights were brand new and the people on the streets had clothes that were made that same year. The show made it into an old town. The show completely glossed over how big of a deal Shady Sands was in the Fallout world.

It makes me sad I didn't get into Fallout earlier. I vividly remember making the decision not to buy the latest Fallout game back in the early 2010s at the Targets because I thought it was Killzone due to the cover art. I didn't care for Killzone and picked up, I forget which one, Call of Duty XYZ.

I watched this series because I LOVE the romantizisation of 1950s America and find nuclear energy/annihilation fascinating. Anyways, the show is pretty good for being made in [CURRENT YEAR] with a nice balance of quality and minimization of "woke." I don't even know what "woke" is anymore. I just liked how it didn't rape me with "you are bad because you don't do what we say you should do." troony stuff doesn't bother me inherently and that one tomboy BoS activated my almonds. Here's hoping she doesn't chop her breasts off and installs a long-pig kielbasa. But Lucy will always and forever be my waifu, okey dokey?

Lastly, what I really enjoy from, not only this series but Fallout in general, is the moral ambiguity. To paraphrase Alejandro Jodorowsky
    >this good and evil dichotomy is an American sickness
I frick hard with that dichotomy when it's shit like LotR (sans O lawd dem rangz). But it all becomes tiresome after a lifetime of being subjected to such infantile logic/thought.

It's fun to watch but it's got some in-universe moments that make zero sense. The lead chick looks like an real life anime character and is likable.

The more they do it, the more irritating Fallout's obsession with 2077 becomes

In Fallout 1 you meet maybe two people that were alive before the war, and both of them are horribly mutated and have very little to say or think about what that civilization was. Even organizations like the Brotherhood and Enclave were clearly LARPers who were set up by people prewar, but didn't actually understand the society they descended from and just go through the motions like a cargo cult. It's a different, new world, and not much from the previous one matters except the radiation.

Now fricking everybody's from then. Everyone fondly remembers the 2077 suburbs because they were fricking frozen or a ghoul or an AI from then. Nothing matters except for whatever plans and bickering and stakes were set into motion two hundred years ago. Think about that, in the show they're in the year 2296 and every fricking event of their lives and character motivation still revolves around 2077.

Might as well just make a prequel series to do the Dystopian Atompunk Suburbia of your dreams and put in constant "they're gonna get nuked lol" foreshadowing

    >people who live a 15 minute walk from its former capital don't even remember it
    >Shady Sands was a communist paradise
    >former ranger, the most elite of NCR troopers, is a cuck that helplessly watches a ghoul kill 2/3 of his children
    >survivors of Shady Sands form a nudist blood cult where they beg their commie leader to bring the NCR back
    >the NCR's enemies, Brotherhood and Enclave, once shown to be scarce and on the run, are now thriving
    >the last remnants of its military is a small militia hiding out in an abandoned compound that gets completely massacred by the Brotherhood
I couldn't have imagined just how dirty this faction would be done before going in

I haven’t seen it and I don’t plan to but there seems to be tons of problems. Just for a minor example- Frederick Simpclair looks completely different and is somehow working for Big Mt. Plus he’s not an evil man- he wouldn’t be on board with Vault Tecs plans

The armor in the show as actually pretty well done for what is supposed to be old worn out armor, especially considering it's only on screen for like 5 seconds. The main problem is the actor is wearing the helmet wrong.
Maybe they just didn't care, or maybe it was the wrong size for the actor or they didn't take into account the extra bulk of the mask.

There was a somewhat similar sort of issue with the first season of The Expanse, where the props department used modified skydive helmets or whatever that left only the eyes visible.
Looks fine, but they realized too late that it would be very hard for the audience to tell which character is which without their full face visible. They didn't have time to re-do all the helmets though, so they just had to work with it.

I think it looks decent, everything considered. I'd love for it to look better, and hopefully we see more/better ranger costumes in season 2, but you do have to temper your expectations with a tv show budget/schedule.

Yea and there's 8 hours of show to produce. One costume for a throwaway character that's only seen for 5 seconds doesn't get a ton of money thrown at it.

Lord, that pissed me off. I was just saying that to myself while watching about how Todd Howard Fallout is idiotic because everything is just ruins (but somehow full of valuable stuff nobody looted in centuries), while in the real Fallout games of course entire cities have been rebuilt and the NCR, which is what would would happen in real life. I was just thinking that when we got to the twist of "lol they blew up Shady Sands with a nuke so the whole world can be Fallout-y???"
