First of all this show was always fricking weird, alright?
It's always been this stupid mishmash amalgamation of tropes and strangeness.
So the anime ending seemed just normal, I smiled and said okay that's Amphibia it's always had these weird of out place things, maybe "lean on me' will play.
But what's this garbage of Marcy moving away, and Sasha and Anne losing touch in highschool, falling into different friendgroups?
I can suspend my disbelief about a lot of shit, but come on.

That's where you fricked up m8, frygays as we called the people who watched for Marcy and sasha, were always destined to lose, we burgerchads (Anne and plantars enjoyers) invested wisely and cashed big, if you re watch the show you'll see that they where never good friends and the reunion at the end is the real payoff a small one i know, but a reasonable one for the real weight they had in the show.

It always sounds weird to me, but at the same time, Anne says it herself, that the talking pink frog she's known for only months was her first *real* friend so apparently the girls she's known and hung out with since childhood don't count
Assuming we're thinking of the same scene, she says that Sprig is her best friend "in this world" and any other world, not "first real friend," per se.
Either way, she was betrayed not once but twice in the same day by her two supposed best friends so, you know.
This is just spitballing, but I feel the split ending was included just because that's Matt's experience irl. He's talked a lot about the "beauty" of friendships coming together, falling apart, and coming back together again, so I imagine, for him, this show's (secondary) central relationship needed to follow that same ebb and flow. For Matt, them splitting apart and losing contact is, a good thing, actually.
Ok, maybe not that cruel of a reading is necessary, but I agree with a lot of the comments that their relationship ending up like this feels too incongruent with how the other crewmembers built everything. Hell, with cut scripts and storyboards, I get the impression this ending was rallied against whenever possible.
But, whatever. At least Braly gave us a positive open ending to this relationship. We can have hundreds of post-college roomie shenanigan fanfics, now. That final shot of the credits is all we need, man. Seriously, him saying this split wasn't tragic for any of them and that, yeah, they /totally/ saw each other over the years through his Twitter comments speaks to him really not getting how everyone else understood the Trio and feeling the need to course correct too late.
A whole mass was just pissed that the girls didn't end up together or them being seperated from Amphibia for a whole decade, which makes them come off as though they can't handle a bittersweet ending.

NTA but yeah it's strange because the crewmembers want Amphibia to be angsty as frick up to True Colors and Yunan and Olivia, the consequences were only stopped due to Disney's S&P preventing them from doing so. I personally don't feel the need for crewmembers to make these scenes so dramatic if they can't even write up proper consequences of it without being shut down by Disney. It only hurts the story's continuity in the long run
Considering how Matt buttered up S&P in order to get the stab boarded in the first place, I'm sure he expected the network to approve what's to come next as long as he works closely with them. I'm also sure that we would've gotten that acknowledgement had the top dogs not pussy'd out at the last second.

I didn't and that's precisely why I praise 3b highly. Apart from Mother Olm, it gave us Sasha and how she tries to make it up to Anne, as well as returning characters whom were affected by the main cast and wanted to change for the better. I eat that shit up.
Well, half of Season 2 was made after they found out it had been cut, so it's more of an apples-to-oranges comparison. Having said that, it's generally held itself quite well for the most part.
I disagree, there was nothing in Amphibia's S2 that would result in dramatic consequences except True Colors, which the show failed to follow up on in S3A, meanwhile TOH had traumatic mid-season episodes and the following episode would always address the resulting drama appropriately, there were no clean wipe resets so they could go back to episodic shenanigans.

Keep in mind that, at the time, we know very well that Sasha had more of a reason to believe that Marcy was alive. Anne was transported to Earth but we all know the box itself was fricky with coordinates. Sasha being the bad friend that she is, realized her mistake and wanted to make it up by helping Wartwood (a town that she was familiar with) and save Marcy, and this was without any prospect of seeing Anne again before the war

As someone who recently did a rewatch, I'd say that's only the case when it comes to some story elements as well as the whole post-TC thing. Other than that, the comedy is still there as well the heart they put. Also, it's weird seeing Polly play a clever straight man in some eps but it's a welcomed surprise

Check the thread archives, the consensus around the show was completely positive during 2A but the "Amphibia is shit" narrative started in 2B.
At the end of the day the writers bit off way more than they could chew, and darker elements being introduced made fans hungry for more while forgetting this is a comedic kids show.
Dana gave us serious consequences and drama and it got her show shortened, but I'm enjoying it more than Amphibia's S3 so far
I honestly felt the opposite while I was watching both when they were airing together. Amphibia was the funny show with warmth and while TOH really hit it out of the park with eps like Reaching Out, the pace got fricked hard and that's really really bad for something storydriven.

These kids forget that when a show peaks at its seriousness, it wouldn't try and replicate nor top that again, at least for a while, and this is especially so with the show's method of presentation. I consider myself as someone who has figured out how they executed things so I understood why this would happen and why this wouldn't. The acknowledgement for the stab shoud've happened and it would've given us some lowkey angsty moments but corporate meddling ensued.
The show missed that chance in S3a. I would've paid to see Anne has flashback of the girls hanging out at the mall since she said it's like their second home as she reminisce their memories together, what made the friendship worth it and fuels her urge to rescue them. But nope, Sasha and Marcy? Who? It's only frog time now babyy

NTA but all true. I barely recognized Sasha at that point and it's just unbearable to see her acting so differently than what she used to. Like yeah I root for Sasha becoming a better person but this isn't it. She lost everything that made her fun to watch and she lacked her iconic dynamic with Grime by having him pushed aside in favor of her desperately tries to mend her relationship with Anne, which I don't mind if only it was done better.
Also I find it odd that Anne happily hugged Sasha in the beginning of S3b but then become distant later. Anne even tried to harm her again by throwing a sword at her for neglecting the frogs in her eyes. As if Anne had any say about leadership when she nearly get everyone in her team killed until Sasha took over.

Hey I just finished the show, literally a moment ago, I spent all day watching season 3.
First of all this show was always fricking weird, alright?
It's always been this stupid mishmash amalgamation of tropes and strangeness.
So the anime ending seemed just normal, I smiled and said okay that's Amphibia it's always had these weird of out place things, maybe "lean on me' will play.
But what's this garbage of Marcy moving away, and Sasha and Anne losing touch in highschool, falling into different friendgroups?
I can suspend my disbelief about a lot of shit, but come on.
How is Anne not a world famous hero?
How the frick is Marcy still going to move, all three of them should be getting mad money from the government or something, why would Marcy be beholden to moving away lmfao.
Anne and Sasha are the only two people in that highschool who have gutted insectoid monsters, who have commanded armies, forget about sharing godly power and being trapped in another world together ... and they were just like nah not feeling the friendship anymore, oh well.

We did slightly, where Sasha and Anne fought at the same time, but between the three of them not really ... they get reunited and then it's like 'then they got home, Marcy moved away, and they weren't friends anymore the end!'

This is just spitballing, but I feel the split ending was included just because that's Matt's experience irl. He's talked a lot about the "beauty" of friendships coming together, falling apart, and coming back together again, so I imagine, for him, this show's (secondary) central relationship needed to follow that same ebb and flow. For Matt, them splitting apart and losing contact is, a good thing, actually.
Ok, maybe not that cruel of a reading is necessary, but I agree with a lot of the comments that their relationship ending up like this feels too incongruent with how the other crewmembers built everything. Hell, with cut scripts and storyboards, I get the impression this ending was rallied against whenever possible.
But, whatever. At least Braly gave us a positive open ending to this relationship. We can have hundreds of post-college roomie shenanigan fanfics, now. That final shot of the credits is all we need, man.

I agree with your posts, the relationship between the girls was always the most exciting and interesting part of the show for me and I was disappointed on how they handled it with the ending. It feels like it was for a different show altogether.
The show would sometimes get caught in the middle of wanting to be a more serious story and funny frog show. At some point it had a good balance but things fell apart. I still enjoyed it overall though.

NTA but yeah it's strange because the crewmembers want Amphibia to be angsty as frick up to True Colors and Yunan and Olivia, the consequences were only stopped due to Disney's S&P preventing them from doing so. Well, half of Season 2 was made after they found out it had been cut, so it's more of an apples-to-oranges comparison. Having said that, it's generally held itself quite well for the most part.
That's because Owl House season two actually had twenty episodes, season three will basically just have the pacing of a D+ Marvel show.
S3 is basically Two hours with Twenty two minutes (if the extra 10 minutes in the last episode rumor is true) movie.
I disagree, there was nothing in Amphibia's S2 that would result in dramatic consequences except True Colors, which the show failed to follow up on in S3A, meanwhile TOH had traumatic mid-season episodes and the following episode would always address the resulting drama appropriately, there were no clean wipe resets so they could go back to episodic shenanigans.
