I used to think this, but realistically air doesn't actually have a lot of killing potential in and if itself. Suffocation as a possibility was the big reveal in Korra but it still takes 30-60 seconds to down someone. A lightning bolt or big rock is instant.

Not to meantion humans are made up of 70% water.

Waterbenders could technically control humans or suck all the moisture from the bodies of living things.

They do both of these things in the original show! The former is called bloodbending. With it you can also block other people from bending semi-permanently, too, so add that one to the waterbending skill list.

I used to be a big Earth Bending guy, but after rewatching the original series and seeing how fricking BROKEN water is, I gotta go with Waterbending. A Kirkland water bottle gives you
      >A Whip
      >Ice Knives
      >Healing
      >Cuffs
      >Create a Scalding stream

Most of things can be done much easier by someone metalbending, but earthbenders obviously can't heal so it evens out.

I think it's funny how Blood Bending has no actual draw backs for the user. If your not a psycho and use it to protect yourself and others, your fine.

      So like all bending?

Not only does fire arguably have the least utility outside of battle it was also really not that strong in the original show. Even mid-level earth and waterbenders could bend a crazy amount of their respecting element while even strong firebenders could only create fairly active fireballs. The exception is in the episode the deserter where that guy that i forgot the name of created a huge firewall

The benefit of firebending in combat is it is much more reactive than other bending styles. It synergizes much better with a skilled martial artist than any other form. Plus even mid level firebenders can fly, something only a few airbenders in history have been able to dl

That was one guy who never formally learned airbending and had it for like a week. The only reason airbenders didn't wreck shit is that they were the smallest nation who preached non-violence and were taken by surprise.

well "fire" is strictly speaking just thermal energy, and since they can bend lightning it implies firebenders can bend any kind of energy which means literally everything including wind.
Really the whole thing is gay because water, fire, earth, and air aren't even in the same category of "thing" it's just shit dumb asian poets were fascinated by before we knew how the world really functioned.
Guns would make all 4 obsolete anyways for the same reason they would in harry potter.

Guns would only kill stupid wizards, magic in Harry Potter is crazy, if a wizard wanted they could enchant a hundred guns to float around them and give them enough self awareness to shoot targets independently and they could also give themselves sensory charms to buff their own sense to the point they can see around corners and through walls (this is how Ron learned to drive legally). They could also use potions to probably make themselves bulletproof as well.

Water is not useful unless you're a MASTER.

Most water benders struggle to move a puddle. Bloodletting requires complete mastery.

Fire's power scales faster. On your own it's shit. But if you cooperate with a hundred people, you can pretty much speedrun the tech tree, free fire means you can smelt unlimited metal, create unlimited glass. You can even create electricity directly. Other elements only catch up once electricity is discovered and they can do something similar to what fire does through water/wind turbines or gravity batteries.
Once gravity batteries are manufactured all of a sudden earth becomes op again.

Earth is the best by far.
Fire isn't that useful because you can replicate the utility with a flint, some tinder, and wood.
Water is only useful if you live near the ocean.
Air, though abundant is useless out of flight, which admittedly is a big bonus, however, what's stopping an earthbender from effectively flying by raising the earth beneath them or encasing themself in a suit of rocks and levitating it?

The best utility earth provides is pretty much you can instantly create a fully furnished home anywhere at any time. I can create a multistorey multibedroom castle anywhere I want. It's minecraft powers.

I'm gonna say either earth. Most of the battles you will have will be on land and mastery of earthbending lets you do pretty much anything you want with it. Most of them just fling boulders, but you can suck an enemy into the ground or pull it up around them, shake them off balance, or anything else like that. Fire can only really be used one way and water, while the most versatile, is limited by supply unless you're near large bodies of water. Bloodbending is unusable 97% of the time. The only counter to earth is air, mostly because those flighty pricks never have to come near the ground.

Water or air, because as demonstrated in the cartoon thanks to power wank, one can just straight control people once you're good enough with no actual set up required (they got rid of the moon requirement) and the other can just kill people instantly.

    >water
    >can instantly defrost or freeze food for cooking or storage
    >can set the temperature of water perfectly for a variety of uses (steaming vegetables, making coffee, cooling beverages)
    >can turn a regular bathroom into a sauna without any hot coals
    >waterbenders are the cleanest motherfrickers; no BO and girls have the nicest, tastiest pussies
    >plus you always have a personal bidet, no expensive fixtures, no messy spray
    >can heal minor wounds and relieve aches and pains
    >can motherfricking bloodbend, control people like puppets
    >can purify water
    >can use ice as a weapon, or waves of water, to cut or bludgeon foes
    >can always stay hydrated in the fricking desert, can collect the sweat the body produces for later purification
    >can breathe underwater by bending the water around the head like a diving helmet
    >can pull water from the lungs to save a homie from drowning
etc. etc. need I go on? water probably has the most utility, followed by earth, then air, and lastly fire.
