I get you gays love these films, but they can’t all be perfect, which is the least good film?

i have literally watched 2 of these. if you showed this to a normal person they would probably laugh nervously, go "oh haha cool anon" and then awkwardly fill up the rest of their time with you and never talk to you again.
Normal people do not care about your black-and-white foreign circlejerk movies that you arbitrarily designate as masterpieces because you want to be quirky and inflate your ego. You are not a filmmaker. You will never be a filmmaker. You are not a critic. You are someone who has gone nowhere in life, and is desperately reaching out to find some sort of self-worth in the form of pointless knowledge that impresses nobody. Stop going on these forums, stop watching movies, and go outside. Also, your dyed-hair BPD nosering girlfriend is not a real girlfriend, she will break up with you the minute she thinks she doesn't have any control in the relationship. Find a proper woman, find proper friends. Please.

        >Appreciating art
There it is, this is what I'm talking about. You frame it as something bigger than yourself to distract from the fact that it IS about yourself. And what a perfect guise it is. But in reality you are cultivating some sort of image for yourself, not only for others to see, but subconsciously, for you to see, to distract yourself from the utter lack of meaning in your life, because you sit inside all day and watch movies. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy and an endless cycle. You are damaging yourself.

No, I'm content. But I know the exact kind of audience this is. I've seen it, I know it. Especially this crowd. I've come to realize a lot of things about my own personality that I never figured out until I gave it a good, honest look and I'm a lot happier for it.

            >Stop going on these forums
            You first

Last time I was on Cinemaphile was season 1 of The Boys. I just came here to riff about season 3. Nothing wrong with a little bit of occasional browsing, I wouldn't knock anyone for that. This goes beyond occasional.
Besides, I am confident in my own ability to regulate my internet usage. There are a lot of people here who can't and don't realize it. Self-discipline starts with hearing the things you don't want to hear.

And yet you are in this thread still replying. Stop going to these forums

Yep, I am, because maybe it'll inspire one or two people to give some thought to their life choices. I know I sure have, and I'm on a better path now. I genuinely, sincerely hope that I can make just a little bit of change in someone's life. If that means coming here and making some people mad, whatever. If you're confident that nothing I says applies to you, no worries. Be on your way. There are just a lot of people I know that boil down to the same sort of patterns and I know that it comes from a bad place. I know how some of your lives are and I don't want that for anyone.

This shit always boils down to arguments about whether or not a film is good because it was influential, or even just because it was influential.
The answer is no because that's a stupid, flawed algebraic argument. Movies don't trade quality and influence points back and forth like a video game. Or you should lean into it and kick movies off your top 50 list if they influenced other shitty movies.

sight & sound/BFI will be releasing their new top 250 list this year and they've published a lot of hand wringing discourse about the structure of the current canon's foundation being outmoded and ripe for change. no I don't just mean woke facelift. should be interesting.

Or Snow White, is this really the best movie disney has ever made? Or is it held in high regard only because it was first one? I don't know.
also unrelated question, is that house of usher movie really good?
