Yeah the BBDS was incredibly accurate to elementary/middle school girl social interactions. I'm surprised they were able to do it so well. You're forgetting that most Japanese SP fans are otaku, nerds, and the special trait of nerds is that they want to know everything about the thing they're obsessed with. So if that means learning about some current event in America, they will do it. In my experience the foreign fans are more aware of these things than American viewers who refuse to learn new things and also they get easily hurt when the topic comes too close so it can't always be viewed from very neutral and objective point of view.

its not even escapism as much as its normal to be more curious about other cultures than the one you live in
South Park is pretty good representative of how gen X sees American culture though, and it's great way to get introduced to the 90s lifestyle in USA. The show used to focus heavily on pop culture consumed by gen X and how Americans are obsessed with celebrities, and there are several happenings that happened in real life (Heaven's Gate or NAMBLA for example). Like Mr. Garrison in the early seasons doesn't teach about random celebrity gossip in his class just because he's a bad teacher, but because it shows how Americans are more interested in celebrities than good quality education. And in general the whole "broship" thing between the boys while the adults are stupid or terrible/distant parents was very typical experience for young people of that era, when divorce rates started going higher and you started valuing your connections with friends more than connections tied with blood. If anything the friendship between Matt and Trey is the best example of this as they clearly became a one type of family unit of their own when they were in college.

This one episode where Butters was acting pissy towards everyone besides Kenny is not a really good example. Because he was pissy towards everyone, of course he will also be pissy towards Kyle.
I also want to mention that post covid also showed that when the kids all stuck together, Stan and Kenny ended up living happier lives alongside Kyle. Everyone but Cartman did, really. We also know that Kenny stayed in contact with Cartman, Kyle and Butters but not Stan in the bad future, although this could be because Stan went kinda crazy and burned down the farm leading to his sister and mother's deaths.

It puts everything he's ever done for the others in constant question and THAT kind of unknowability, wondering whether Kyle can really be trusted or counted on in a pinch makes Kyle inherently toxic to the friend group and ultimately caused the drift away. Kenny didn't keep in touch with Stan because he was the one who broke the group in the first place because he can't even count on his best friend to support him and he KNOWS this now. Yeah ... could have did without the Towelie plot that has nothing to do with the Nathan/Jimmy plot and I could have did without all the informational intermissions that pause the action.
I think Crippled Summer is one of those episode that could be far better if someone edited it, just like Ultimate Spiderman that pauses the video for a fricking gag every few minutes or even seconds.
I was actually thinking about how you could make the streaming wars episode work in the alternate timeline where tegridy stopped being a thing at the end of it's first season/tegridy never existed.
The general plot would pretty much be the same, there are water shortages so land up in South Park is becoming more appealing. Tolkien's dad is rich, and realises he owns land with a stream through it after the water commissioner tells him. Then you get Stan and Tolkien who can just be hanging out because they are friends start making the boats, as well as for other people in town who would own streams like that farmer guy.
After that the plot could mostly play out the same with the rich guy coming and Cartman wanting to get his mom fake breasts, as well as the rich guy offering the boys a lot of money to make lots of boats. Randy then only comes in when he as a geologist is investigating the streams in the mountains and notices all the real estate signs, and then all the boats coming down the streams. He finds one of Tolkien's dad's boats and confronts him about it, who is shocked to hear about the water running out and all the land being brought, as his own water back home is starting to run out. He tells Randy that Stan and the boys are the ones making the boats, so Randy goes to Stan and tells him he has to stop making these boats, he takes him to t he rich guy's house and that plays out the same just without the Karen bit. Same with Tolkien's dad confronting Pi Pi.
The WoW episode for me. Either dedicate full time to making the lvl 60 bully entertaining by adding tons of Tom & Jerry, Wily E Coyote varied events or kill him off in the first 4-5 minutes and move onto the next plot like clans vs clans or the virus or the boys being in control of the game and Blizzard kneeling before them to change the shitty story or something more creative.

I assume some of the characters I listed wouldn't work for hardmode (I would have listed Jimbo and Ned otherwise) but most adult characters outside of Randy and Garrison arent used much. I'd personally say that Butters' parents are good characters (not morally good but entertaining) their problem is that they are simply overused, which is a by product of Butters being overused. I also enjoy Kenny's parents, so add them to the hardmode list as well.

Yeah, pretty much. She like all the girl students seems to still be fairly socially conscious, at least enough to pressure the mass breakup in response the the bawdhunt stuff. But she definitely isn't as socially conscious as Wendy.
My favourite Bebe episode is probably Bebe's boobs destroy society because we got to see her interacting with the boys which was a nice change of pace from her usually being glued to the girls. Plus she was the victim of b***hy gossip instead of the one propagating it, which was an interesting role reversal. Yeah the BBDS was incredibly accurate to elementary/middle school girl social interactions. I'm surprised they were able to do it so well. This must be the type of nostalgic comfiness boys feel watching a normal episode of south park centered around the guys. Shits like it was taken out of my own memories from elementary. It was nice too because their whole social dynamic makes for interesting plots that we wouldn't otherwise get to see with the boys.

You're forgetting that most Japanese SP fans are otaku, nerds, and the special trait of nerds is that they want to know everything about the thing they're obsessed with. So if that means learning about some current event in America, they will do it. In my experience the foreign fans are more aware of these things than American viewers who refuse to learn new things and also they get easily hurt when the topic comes too close so it can't always be viewed from very neutral and objective point of view.
Like the point of Tweek x Craig isn't that whether Tweek and Craig are gay or not, it's 1. poking fun at TV shows and movies having gay romance just to be progressive, 2. poking fun at American education and how Americans don't even know the difference between Japan, Korea and China let alone know about their politics and history. South Park is pretty good representative of how gen X sees American culture though, and it's great way to get introduced to the 90s lifestyle in USA. The show used to focus heavily on pop culture consumed by gen X and how Americans are obsessed with celebrities, and there are several happenings that happened in real life (Heaven's Gate or NAMBLA for example). Like Mr. Garrison in the early seasons doesn't teach about random celebrity gossip in his class just because he's a bad teacher, but because it shows how Americans are more interested in celebrities than good quality education. And in general the whole "broship" thing between the boys while the adults are stupid or terrible/distant parents was very typical experience for young people of that era, when divorce rates started going higher and you started valuing your connections with friends more than connections tied with blood. If anything the friendship between Matt and Trey is the best example of this as they clearly became a one type of family unit of their own when they were in college.

Kyle did screw things up in the pandemic/vaccination specials, however outside of that he hasn't really done enough to make Kenny hate him and generally is shown to care for Kenny and look out for him, he was hearbroken when Kenny was dying, and tried to help Kenny through his addictions.

This one episode where Butters was acting pissy towards everyone besides Kenny is not a really good example. Because he was pissy towards everyone, of course he will also be pissy towards Kyle.
I also want to mention that post covid also showed that when the kids all stuck together, Stan and Kenny ended up living happier lives alongside Kyle. Everyone but Cartman did, really. We also know that Kenny stayed in contact with Cartman, Kyle and Butters but not Stan in the bad future, although this could be because Stan went kinda crazy and burned down the farm leading to his sister and mother's deaths.

Yeah ... could have did without the Towelie plot that has nothing to do with the Nathan/Jimmy plot and I could have did without all the informational intermissions that pause the action.
I think Crippled Summer is one of those episode that could be far better if someone edited it, just like Ultimate Spiderman that pauses the video for a fricking gag every few minutes or even seconds.

I was actually thinking about how you could make the streaming wars episode work in the alternate timeline where tegridy stopped being a thing at the end of it's first season/tegridy never existed.
The general plot would pretty much be the same, there are water shortages so land up in South Park is becoming more appealing. Tolkien's dad is rich, and realises he owns land with a stream through it after the water commissioner tells him. Then you get Stan and Tolkien who can just be hanging out because they are friends start making the boats, as well as for other people in town who would own streams like that farmer guy.
After that the plot could mostly play out the same with the rich guy coming and Cartman wanting to get his mom fake breasts, as well as the rich guy offering the boys a lot of money to make lots of boats. Randy then only comes in when he as a geologist is investigating the streams in the mountains and notices all the real estate signs, and then all the boats coming down the streams. He finds one of Tolkien's dad's boats and confronts him about it, who is shocked to hear about the water running out and all the land being brought, as his own water back home is starting to run out. He tells Randy that Stan and the boys are the ones making the boats, so Randy goes to Stan and tells him he has to stop making these boats, he takes him to t he rich guy's house and that plays out the same just without the Karen bit. Same with Tolkien's dad confronting Pi Pi.
The WoW episode for me. Either dedicate full time to making the lvl 60 bully entertaining by adding tons of Tom & Jerry, Wily E Coyote varied events or kill him off in the first 4-5 minutes and move onto the next plot like clans vs clans or the virus or the boys being in control of the game and Blizzard kneeling before them to change the shitty story or something more creative.

I assume some of the characters I listed wouldn't work for hardmode (I would have listed Jimbo and Ned otherwise) but most adult characters outside of Randy and Garrison arent used much. I'd personally say that Butters' parents are good characters (not morally good but entertaining) their problem is that they are simply overused, which is a by product of Butters being overused. I also enjoy Kenny's parents, so add them to the hardmode list as well.

You are fair on Tweek, back when he was a relevant character he was really funny. But now he just exists to be Craig's boyfriend. Craig was great in the original Pandemic episodes and The Fractured But Whole but outside of that he's just alright. Clyde is alright as well, kinda forgettable at times due to his bland design, but he isn't bad.
