Disagree. If you stop just before OMD you end on what, Sins Past?
BND had a lot of good bits and led into a really nice new status quo. I enjoyed the multiple storythreads going on at once and seeing them develop over months. JMS through to maybe Grim Hunt is a solid era and worth suffering through Sins Past and OMD.
To be fair, I always felt Deodato-penciled stories were much weaker than the one JMS wrote with JRJr as an artist. I don't know what caused this drop, doubt Romita Jr. had that much of an impact on the writing but I just don't like them.
Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if JRJR had a fair hand in the stories alongside JMS, even if the Marvel Method was out the door by that time. One of the highlights of his work has always been how good he is at plotting and blocking a page
JMD is such a weird run. He absolutely nails the characters and writing, but it’s such a cursed run thanks to Morlun/Ezekiel arc, Sins Past, OMD, Civil War, Back in Black, The Other, that weird Hulk mob corpse guy and a general lack of any of Peter’s actual rogues gallery. Even Mary Jane took a fair bit of time to come back to the book.
JMD Spidey is a run full of great moments, but it’s got a ton of problems too. I normally consider Maximum Carnage to be ‘The End’ of classic Spidey with its outright rejection of everything the 90’s were pushing for in comics.
Instead of Amazing Fantasy, read “In the Beginning” from the Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine. It was a revised origin by Stan Lee that improves upon the original. It was also adapted word for word by the 60s cartoon. https://youtu.be/ktk-13xziwY
Nope. Pic related’s also by Stan Lee.
>Don't read the first chapter because...uh...I like this remake better!
moron opinion.
If the remake improves on the original and works perfectly as a replacement starting point, then you go with the remake. Only pretentious nerds will go to the objectively worse older version.

>improves on the original and works
Holy shit, that's hilarious that you think that.
That text box is important yes but most are literally pointless, they are just used to describe what you're seeing in the art and just drag everything down.
I say that as someone who read ASM from the beginning, when I reread it all I won't be reading the yellow boxes.
Start with Amazing Fantasy #15
Move on to Amazing Spider-Man issues #1-17
Pause to read Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1
Resume Amazing Spider-Man with issues #18-28
Pause to read Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2
Resume Amazing Spider-Man with issues #29-41
Pause to read Amazing Spider-Man Annual #3
Resume Amazing Spider-Man with issues #42-53
Pause to read Amazing Spider-Man Annual #4
Resume Amazing Spider-Man with issues #54-61
Pause to read Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine #1
Resume Amazing Spider-Man with issues #62 to #65
Pause to read Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine #2
Then read Amazing Spider-Man Annual #5
Resume Amazing Spider-Man with issues #66 to #85
Don't worry about Amazing Spider-Man Annual #6 or #7 -- both are just reprints of older issues. From here, just keep reading for two hundred issues.
I got confused at wich point was i supposed to start reading books like Peter Parker: Spider-Man and Spectacular, i still read from Amazing Spider-Man #1 'til like 300.
Yes, you should. You don't give a frick about the general topic of this thread, you just want to draw more attention to yourself and your pathetic ass. You're a social leech and I'm sick of everyone on this board coddling fricks like you. You all need to be told to frick off.
Stop bumping a almost dead thread seriously I am REALLY tired of these constant Spider-Man threads. I think I would enjoy a Hulk, FF, Avenges or Captain America thread for a change, since there would be something to truly discuss in those threads. Unlike these stupid and unnecessary constant Spider-Man threads which are clearly scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I would but right now it's almost bed time for me europen time you know.
Honestly the original is going to be the best, pete was the best example of king form story telling so the ONLY way you can truly understand the rabidity of the fan base towards the current direction of EBERY facet of the franchise currently is reading the first thirty years of the story. Though marvel adventure Spider-Man was a fun take on it, check out web spinners tales and tangled web for different smaller stories throughout canon. And honestly check out the Ditko run along side untold tales of Spider-Man which fills in holes of the story.
Instead of Amazing Fantasy, read “In the Beginning” from the Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine. It was a revised origin by Stan Lee that improves upon the original. It was also adapted word for word by the 60s cartoon. https://youtu.be/ktk-13xziwY
Spider-Man's got a ridiculous amount of fantastic and iconic covers across his entire history tbh, you could choose most any cover as your favourite and it'd be valid
>Todd McFarlane's adjectiveless Spider-Man has good art (if you happen to like McFarlane's art) and awful writing >90s Clone Saga was a notorious, drawn-out mess but has some good stuff that balances out the bad, like Ben Reilly >Byrne/Mackie's late 90s run >pretty much everything from OMD onwards, with the possible exception of Spencer's run
It's been said before, but Spider-Man was remarkably consistent in terms of quality for about 30 years before it all went breasts up. The worst period for the character before the 90s are his mid-to-late 70s comics, and even then that's more so just average rather than outright bad or offensive
I think the best starting point is when Dan Slott introduces the earth-shattering character 'Alpha' in ASM 692. Nothing was ever the same after that iconic story arc
Unironically Amazing Fantasy. I had a blast reading Spider-man from there, all over Amazing Spider-man's first run. You can read the other books if needed for an event or shit like that, but Amazing Spider-man is self contained enough and explains most references.
I would stop around the 90's or 2000's though, not worth it after that. Maybe some runs could be entertaining, some interesting stuff did happen here and there, but the real good stuff was the original.
Amazing fantasy 15&amazing spiderman issue 1. Then keep on going. Also get Peter Parker the spectacular spiderman(1976-1987) and web of spiderman(.1985-1995). Keep going through AMS (yes even the clone saga). You can skip sins past(really just skip it). Then get marvel knights/Sensational spiderman(2004-2007). Now after all that bullshit you have some options. Either end at back in black or suffer through one more day and keep going. Just going throw out some stuff I like. Ultimate Spider-Man 1-160(I still miss that little douche bag). Spiderman 2099 1-46(1992-1996)&2099 Manifest Destiny(the end). What if 105(spider girl first appearance), spidergirl 1-100, amazing spidergirl 1-30, and spectacular spider girl 1-11.
I haven't actually read it myself but from what I can tell, Ultimate Spidey seems to mostly be praised by redditors and secondaries who can't get into the original Silver Age run because "it's too wordy" (despite the fact that Bendis is incredibly fricking wordy in his own godforsaken right)
a lot of Bendis' work has aged poorly because the man can't write characters without having them be israeli stereotypes yapping on and on about fricking nothing. I can understand 60s writers wanting to cram as much text as possible in an issue, but Bendis had no excuse. It's not even fun ramblings, like Norman in the Thunderbolts run talking to himself, but repeating shit over and over again, as though hoping it'll eventually become hilarious.
Stop bumping a almost dead thread seriously I am REALLY tired of these constant Spider-Man threads. Don't bother.
Read his first appearance. The read his solo series from the first issue.
stan and ditko run
ultimate spiderman
JMS's run is the best starting point if we're talking modern books. Also it's the best stopping point, right before OMD
Disagree. If you stop just before OMD you end on what, Sins Past?

>If you stop just before OMD you end on what, Sins Past?
No you end on Back in Black.
For some reason I thought Back In Black wasn't JMS and was in some other book (Spectacular or something). My mistake.
Back in black was in ever side book at the time, but the main story was in ASM
...you end with Back in Black.
Also Sins Past is not canon anymore so who tf cares? Might as well skip it, I don't know.
To be fair, I always felt Deodato-penciled stories were much weaker than the one JMS wrote with JRJr as an artist. I don't know what caused this drop, doubt Romita Jr. had that much of an impact on the writing but I just don't like them.
*the ones
I think it's a pity we missed out on JRJR's interpretation of the most famous page from Sins Past.
Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if JRJR had a fair hand in the stories alongside JMS, even if the Marvel Method was out the door by that time. One of the highlights of his work has always been how good he is at plotting and blocking a page

I'd say Rodger Stern's run
Amazing Fantasy 15. Don't let anyone tell you differently.
Amazing Fantasy sucks.
Are you moronic?
Explain why Amazing Fantasy is good.

Holy shit, that's hilarious that you think that.
The beginning, and you can drop if as soon as you no longer enjoy it.
Beginning. Only thing is don’t bother reading the yellow boxes, honestly the comics flow better without them.
The beginning. Ditko's issues make for a great story.
Depends. Sometimes the caption is better and the dialogue is superfluous. Someone should make a streamlined version.
The boxes are important.
Nope. Pic related’s also by Stan Lee.
That text box is important yes but most are literally pointless, they are just used to describe what you're seeing in the art and just drag everything down.

The original Ditko-Romita-Lee run is perfect.
ultimate universe
nobody cares about mainline spidey
Dont make him start with that shitty ending
This was true 20 years ago when people had trouble finding good ASM scans.
What a stupid response.
Nobody cares about the comics, period. Only Spider-Geeks do.
Just fricking have a nice day.
Nah.
Yes

Untold Tales is best read long after.
It’s probably best read along side the amazing issues it was being released with since I think that’s where the villains he introduces pop up
Instead of Amazing Fantasy, read “In the Beginning” from the Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine. It was a revised origin by Stan Lee that improves upon the original. It was also adapted word for word by the 60s cartoon. https://youtu.be/ktk-13xziwY

Read above Larry’s name.
I share this question
theres a few answers here already
What is the horniest Spider-Man comic?
sins past
Amazing Fantasy #15 and then Amazing Spider-Man #1 and read until you hit the end of Back in Black and then stop.
Amazing Fantasy #15
Then read ASM 1 - 400
Pick up Spectacular, Web of, and (adjectiveless) Spider-Men to read alongside as they are released
Don't
Just
Leave young one, and never look back there is nothing bud pain and emptiness here
Leave before you see enough of the frickshow
Stop at ASM 350. It’s what Jesus would do.
>not reading 400
Don't. Anything positive you gain from reading western capeshit will be eventually dashed upon seeing what happens to all the characters you like.
the other by JMS
I don’t get why people love this cover so much. There are lots of other good ones.
Spider-Man's got a ridiculous amount of fantastic and iconic covers across his entire history tbh, you could choose most any cover as your favourite and it'd be valid
Anything before 2008 is a good start, but 60-90 are the best ones
What are the worse Spider-Man comics/runs?
If you ever hear "one more day" and anything that comes after it, stay away.
>Todd McFarlane's adjectiveless Spider-Man has good art (if you happen to like McFarlane's art) and awful writing

why are you so autistically obsessed with the remake?
I think the best starting point is when Dan Slott introduces the earth-shattering character 'Alpha' in ASM 692. Nothing was ever the same after that iconic story arc

Bump
more like assbump
You bumped a thread which was on page 10 for more then a hour piss off.
You're so dull, troll.
More like these Spider-Man threads are dumb and dull.
Only because you keep shitposting in them
oooohhhhhhhh
Thread was on page 10 for more then a hour wiseguy without me shitposting in them.
Do not read Marvel or DC cape comics.
Amazing Fantasy #15 or The Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #1, there's no reason to begin anywhere else
I started with "best stories"
