Hmm...thanks for the commission idea. Basically MJ wearing Morrigan's outfit except replace the bat pattern on the legs with spiders, replace the wings with spider legs coming out of the back like the iron spider suit. The wings on the head I don't know what would work to replace that. The color scheme would be her legs blue or dark blue while I think the corset part would be red with the webbing pattern. I think that would look best.
The translation scene for western comics in Japan is completely different from the translators working in games or Japanese media. The translators in that genre typically don't work on stuff outside of it.

Capcom literally didn't know what a succubus was when they created Morrigan, they just thought it meant "female demon". When they found out succubi need semen to sustain themselves, they just made a small note that Morrigan gets sustenance from fighting because boredom will kill her.

It's about the pros and cons of cartridges VS CDs. With cartridges you might not be able to hold as much data for your game total, but you an load data in and out on the fly with no problem. Hence those pirate SF2 hacks that let you change your character mid match. With CDs, you can hold a lot of total data for your game, but because reading off of CDs is slow, you can't load and unload stuf in the middle of a fight. You need to load all the data you'll need for that fight into RAM ahead of time. And the PS1 didn't have much RAM, so it couldn't hold 4 characters' worth of sprites and such.

Funny, MvCI was made to cash in on MCU hype but bombed, and now there's no more hype for the MCU. An MvC4 would have to stand on its own merits-if Disney can learn from their mistake and step back and not micromanage Capcom. Not too sure about that, though

Spider-man is way more popular due to the western movies (the tokusatsu show actually wasn't that popular despite its influence on later stuff like the robots in sentai) but no X-Men was never that popular. Same as with Spider-man the movies made it more popular. Them being used in the Capcom games was more Capcom wanting to appeal to western markets than anything domestic.

American comics have never done well in Japan. The format is too confusing, the books are overpriced, and the translations are infamously bad and inconsistent.
They didn't even really decide on how to write MARVEL for the longest time, which you can see in discussions on the new game collection. Up to MVC3 in Japanese it was written as マーヴル, but ever since the MCU happened they started writing it as マーベル and they applied that to MVC Infinite, and now it's being retroactively applied to MSH and MVC1-3.
And back in the day depending on the translator it used to be written in other ways too like マーヴェル.
It's kind of funny how Japan has no consideration over western comic book media but the media itself is responsible for some of its biggest properties. I think the thing that makes tatsunako good is the fact it isn't inspired ONLY by cape stuff, yes they are a source of inspiration but there are many others as well and that's why modern comics such so much because they are only inspired by other comics so they tend to be derivative. Back then comics were inspired by other things like literature or movies.

They don't translate individual volumes btw, only collections, which of course mean that you never get a complete story even if you buy one because it leaves out all the tie-ins and spinoffs, many of which don't even get translated.
Japan has similar problems with the DC dramas where you get to a crossover episode on Flash that's a sequel to the episode in a series that wasn't brought to Japan and continues in a series that also wasn't brought to Japan.

The books are only sold in extremely rare specialty stores anyway, almost nobody reads them and a lot of fans just go for it in English.
A clever thing they've been doing in Japan recently is selling stuff on Kindle for pretty cheap or putting it up on Unlimited but so far it's only made the existing fans happier and not really done much in the way of getting new fans (DC's been doing it too)

For some of these characters I think you should do the gimmick wear they're variants of the same slot but they have slight differences. Like miles Morales might be faster but has less HP or the maker has moves that have different properties than regular reed Richards

Why would people want Miles/Gwen on such a small roster? It's like having Venom, Carnage and Toxin in one game.

You can easily make as many differences between Pete and Miles as Ryu and Ken, don't kid yourself. If you give Gwen her symbiote there's plenty of opportunity there too.
I've noticed people tend towards fans of particular franchises and going too heavy on them. Like you see fan rosters with six mega man characters we you really only need two, three max.
Part of that is probably because of how underrepresented SF and Xmen are but those are franchises with enough iconic characters with different playstyles to justify it.
Why I don't want him, you can easily give Miles Morales a spot on a roster by focusing a lot on his Venom powers (electricity) and giving the fricking sword to differentiate him from Peter.

I'd love a Miguel skin for Peter. Honestly, Peter's costumes were kinda lackluster in MvC3 because they were just texture swaps, so they were limited in what they could do.
The books are only sold in extremely rare specialty stores anyway, almost nobody reads them and a lot of fans just go for it in English.
A clever thing they've been doing in Japan recently is selling stuff on Kindle for pretty cheap or putting it up on Unlimited but so far it's only made the existing fans happier and not really done much in the way of getting new fans (DC's been doing it too)

Also man, I remember that thread where a fanzine from Japan mostly focused on X-Men, Iron Man, Batman, and mostly DC titles. Makes sense consider their affection for the occult, crime, and mecha genres. I wonder if they have translated kino Marvel stories like KLH? I know in that fanzine they did so for Crisis on Infinite Earths and The Dark Knight Returns.

They don't translate individual volumes btw, only collections, which of course mean that you never get a complete story even if you buy one because it leaves out all the tie-ins and spinoffs, many of which don't even get translated.
Japan has similar problems with the DC dramas where you get to a crossover episode on Flash that's a sequel to the episode in a series that wasn't brought to Japan and continues in a series that also wasn't brought to Japan.

As I understand it, they'll translate a tpb but not the volume before it or after it. It's kinda like the way Marvel's Epic Collections have no real rhyme or reason to what gets released when or if at all.
The translation scene for western comics in Japan is completely different from the translators working in games or Japanese media. The translators in that genre typically don't work on stuff outside of it.

It's about the pros and cons of cartridges VS CDs. With cartridges you might not be able to hold as much data for your game total, but you an load data in and out on the fly with no problem. Hence those pirate SF2 hacks that let you change your character mid match. With CDs, you can hold a lot of total data for your game, but because reading off of CDs is slow, you can't load and unload stuf in the middle of a fight. You need to load all the data you'll need for that fight into RAM ahead of time. And the PS1 didn't have much RAM, so it couldn't hold 4 characters' worth of sprites and such.
Anyway, I hope this has achievements like the last Capcom collection.

Funny, MvCI was made to cash in on MCU hype but bombed, and now there's no more hype for the MCU. An MvC4 would have to stand on its own merits-if Disney can learn from their mistake and step back and not micromanage Capcom. Not too sure about that, though

Spider-man is way more popular due to the western movies (the tokusatsu show actually wasn't that popular despite its influence on later stuff like the robots in sentai) but no X-Men was never that popular. Same as with Spider-man the movies made it more popular. Them being used in the Capcom games was more Capcom wanting to appeal to western markets than anything domestic.

Nah, Tatsunoko was unashamedly westaboo when it comes to american comics. Take in account that most of the stuff they were doing at the time was prior to any live-action adaptation. Speed Racer was released in manga form way before Batman got syndicated in the country and Casshern came three years prior to a live-action Superman.

I think the thing that makes tatsunako good is the fact it isn't inspired ONLY by cape stuff, yes they are a source of inspiration but there are many others as well and that's why modern comics such so much because they are only inspired by other comics so they tend to be derivative. Back then comics were inspired by other things like literature or movies.

American comics have never done well in Japan. The format is too confusing, the books are overpriced, and the translations are infamously bad and inconsistent.
They didn't even really decide on how to write MARVEL for the longest time, which you can see in discussions on the new game collection. Up to MVC3 in Japanese it was written as マーヴル, but ever since the MCU happened they started writing it as マーベル and they applied that to MVC Infinite, and now it's being retroactively applied to MSH and MVC1-3.
And back in the day depending on the translator it used to be written in other ways too like マーヴェル.

They don't translate individual volumes btw, only collections, which of course mean that you never get a complete story even if you buy one because it leaves out all the tie-ins and spinoffs, many of which don't even get translated.
Japan has similar problems with the DC dramas where you get to a crossover episode on Flash that's a sequel to the episode in a series that wasn't brought to Japan and continues in a series that also wasn't brought to Japan.

The books are only sold in extremely rare specialty stores anyway, almost nobody reads them and a lot of fans just go for it in English.
A clever thing they've been doing in Japan recently is selling stuff on Kindle for pretty cheap or putting it up on Unlimited but so far it's only made the existing fans happier and not really done much in the way of getting new fans (DC's been doing it too)

For some of these characters I think you should do the gimmick wear they're variants of the same slot but they have slight differences. Like miles Morales might be faster but has less HP or the maker has moves that have different properties than regular reed Richards

I've noticed people tend towards fans of particular franchises and going too heavy on them. Like you see fan rosters with six mega man characters we you really only need two, three max.
Part of that is probably because of how underrepresented SF and Xmen are but those are franchises with enough iconic characters with different playstyles to justify it.

The true two new Spider characters to add before any others would be Green Goblin and Doc Ock. Having Peter's main three villains would add the greatest recognition, satisfaction, and move variety to the game.
I'd love a Miguel skin for Peter. Honestly, Peter's costumes were kinda lackluster in MvC3 because they were just texture swaps, so they were limited in what they could do.

Also man, I remember that thread where a fanzine from Japan mostly focused on X-Men, Iron Man, Batman, and mostly DC titles. Makes sense consider their affection for the occult, crime, and mecha genres. I wonder if they have translated kino Marvel stories like KLH? I know in that fanzine they did so for Crisis on Infinite Earths and The Dark Knight Returns.

Eh Luke Cage is a bit too similar to all the other heavy characters. Juggernaut, Haggar, Hulk, etc. are more memorable. My suggestion for a roster would be Forbush Man to be a joke character. Exceot his super involves him turning into an edgy 90's version of himself that is powerful like pic rel.
As I understand it, they'll translate a tpb but not the volume before it or after it. It's kinda like the way Marvel's Epic Collections have no real rhyme or reason to what gets released when or if at all.
The translation scene for western comics in Japan is completely different from the translators working in games or Japanese media. The translators in that genre typically don't work on stuff outside of it.
