https://twitter.com/thecartooncrave/status/1550271116706471937
Because it's just crossing over with itself? That's kind of lame, tbh.
Literally as bad as "brian dying" in Family Guy
Wait nu-bob hasn't yet had a Brian dying moment?
I think Truth or Dare might count. It was hyped up to have some status quo changing reveals and instead it was a bunch of nothing.
>"first ever crossover special"
>it's with itself
that barely qualifies as a crossover anymore
People keep calling the Endgame a cross over.
That isn't even remotely comparable. This is literally characters from SpongeBob being in a SpongeBob episode, peddled as a "crossover". Nicktoons Unite counts as a crossover because they're from different IPs, despite being owned by the same company, same with Endgame.
This is just a blatant lie.
>Nicktoons Unite counts as a crossover because they're from different IPs, despite being owned by the same company, same with Endgame.
All the Endgame characters are from the same universe, any of them can be found within the same setting.
Even so, Endgame is still more of a crossover than this Spongebob episode.
At least many of the characters that "crossovered" in Infinity War/Endgame starred in their own movies and originated from them before joining together.
This is just putting the puzzle piece back in the empty slot as Patrick Show and Kamp Koral were ripped from Spongebob in the first place.
>first ever spongebob crossover special
>it's crossing over with itself
this is just vincent waller's ren and stimpy project now. garbage.
Alex bale and the theorizer will be happy
SpongeBob will meet Patrick and then both can meet CGI kid SpongeBob and Patrick! Woooooooow!!!! Stop the presses!!!
>crossover
>is just spongebob with spongebob
is this a joke?
Named after the original pitch material
Ugh
The Patrick show is STILL going?
The Patrick Star show is like nonstop violating eye and ear rape, I don't know why it is still here
>crossover with own spinoff
>crew practically shared between shows
any good faith I had with nu-bob has basically vanished at this point. can't the show die already
it doesn't even have the gall to be grating in a way that's funny or at least even stimulating. it's just nothing happening on screen for 11 minutes with goofy noises and Bill gayerbakke phoning it in as Patrick.
it's real, unfortunately. first showed up in kamp koral and she just reeks of 'creator's pet' in every appearance she makes
Maxwell Atoms is working on it. Funny seeing How Greenblatt worked on the main show, which was his first big gig.
I assumed it was going to be a joke episode of SpongeBob that involved Patrick complaining about how SpongeBob has a show and he doesn't.
Literally who the frick wanted a Patrick show.
Am I hallucinating because I thought he crossed with MLAATR
this bumper from Germany got some traction on Twitter a few weeks ago, so you're probably thinking of this
It’s actually from the Middle East
Kek! This is too funny
almost makes me forget just how bad the state of this franchise is...almost...
Apparently Stephen disliked the idea of crossovers cause he thought the show should be its own thing. Do you think he would be okay with this? It's just Spongebob crossing over with itself.
He didn't like the idea of spin-offs either yet here we are with 2 other spongebob shows simultaneously airing with the main show
>Do you think he would be okay with this?
No because he hated spin offs too.
Give it time, people will crawl out of the woodwork to demand the franchise be burned to the ground soon enough.
Who knows? One would suspect the crossover thing was only about other shows.
They probably won't be able to say he was okay with this like they did the spinoffs.
>Do you think he would be okay with this?
Did you notice all these spinoffs were announced barely a month after he died?
Stephen was very protective of Spongebob. Multiple of his co-workers confirmed this. I remember i saw an interview with Carl Greenblatt where he said a year or two after it aired a Spongebob popsicle came out and Stephen said "This is not what I wanted"
HAVE NO FEARS
WE'VE GOT STORIES FOR YEARS
MARGE BECOMES A ROBOT
>a Sandy movie
>a Plankton movie
just give me a movie about Squidward in art-college, dammit
whats this from?
tumblr, unironically (I forget the original artist, my bad)
You can tell it's from tumblr because it's not just the image, they had to take a photo on a stupid angle.
>the clip in OP's post is literally about every character *becoming a robot* like the song
lmao ya can't make this shit up
Suprised they haven't considered a Squidward spin off yet. He's argueably the only character that could carry a show on its own (or be less shitty than the other ones, at least).
The lack of a Squidward spin-off makes sense when you consider the fact he’s mainly popular with older teens and adults, and Nickelodeon has no fricking clue on how to capitalize on that demographic via shows.
Remember when Nick hired the guy who wrote Johnny The Homicidal Maniac and then canceled his show because it was appealing to an older audience?
It boggles my mind that Nick were the one's that saw his comic and sought him out to pitch a show for them
To be fair, it was also really expensive to produce.
Squidward absolutely cannot stand on his own. The only reason he's even remotely sympathetic is because he has to constantly deal with idiots torturing him. Without that he becomes insufferable and boring very quickly. Even the show at its prime pointed that out.
HOW 'BOUT A CRAZY WEDDING
Of course, there's the sea bear.
And Mystery.
>Haha, rember tihng from past episod? Please watch us.
Snellie and Spot, too.
>Kamp Koral
>series origin story
I thought it was offically an alternate universe to explain various bullshit like Sandy being there as a kid.
They explained early on that future Sandy sent past Sandy to Kamp Koral to stop Plankton from stealing the secret formula.
It's funny how BEFORE Hillenburg actually died, a lot of people held the sentiment that Nickelodeon was being absolutely ridiculous with how much they were milking, shilling and self-fellating SpongeBob.
If only we knew how bad things would really get.
That sandy movie better be porn or at least show her naked ASS with a title like that
Bikini and circle breasts is all you'll ever get.
Are they running out of ideas?
Hold on, a Plankton solo movie could actually be good. Stranger things have happened. I thought I was completely checked out of the Shrek franchise after that shit third movie, but that new Puss in Boots movie looks like it might be worth a look.
This doesn’t even count as a crossover
All three shows are supposed to be in the same universe. Same with
When did you stopped paying attention to what Nickelodeon is doing with Spongebob?
Remember when the show was not only referencing their characters but also referencing seasons 1-3 episodes' iconic scenes or things? They're nostalgia worthy.
>When did you stopped paying attention to what Nickelodeon is doing with Spongebob?
Like a decade ago when it stopped being good.
>SpongeBob crossover
call me when it's another Nicktoons Unite crossover
that'll be $50 plus tip
nope, doesn't count. Jimmy and Timmy are nowhere to be seen.
That Timmy was built for sodomizing
Guys! It's Looney Tunes' first ever crossover special! Bugs Bunny is crossing over with Porky and Daffy!
Underrated
no frickin' way
I went "SPONGEBOB BETRAYED US!!!" when it turned out to be a zoom meeting special to capitalize on the COVID-19 pandemic
What's funniest is that Porky and Bugs appeared together so little in the classic years that this is legit more of a crossover than Bob + Patrick With A Shirt
It pays to never be invested in IP owned by corporation. They will ruin what you love eventually. SpongeBob had a good run and should have end after the first movie. What is now is basically them trying to keep a braindead person alive. Zombie SpongeBob.
It will never cease to amaze me that this franchise is still running off the momentum of only three seasons that aired 20 years ago. At least the Simpsons had nine golden seasons.
I have nothing to add to the conversation because your thoughts are mine exactly.
Sounds like sonic
Finally, SpongeBob and Patrick will appear in the main show. At last.
Next they'll expect you to get hyped ay a crossover between Last Airbender and Legend of Korra.
Would be neat actually.
Is that really a crossover
>Crossover ratings trap.
It’s dead isn’t it?
>Crossing over
>With itself
Family Guy is gonna crossover with The Cleveland Show?! holy crap!
I've seen the American Dad episode so many times, but I had no idea this was a crossover event. I guess that explains the joke at the end with the other dads showing up, but it also makes it less funny since it was set up.
I agree, I forgot it was a cross-over for a long time. I think it had potential if it had them actually cross-over for an episode. Maybe, have the their own episodes lead up to one where they all have to work with each other to save themselves from thrle hurricane.
I hate that this feels like naming a shill special for shitty spinoffs hillenburg didn't want after his original soulful origination of spongebob. Though I also know this is clearly just a lazy Twilight Zone parody, they already did the exact same name and reference in a recent season episode.
April “Pinkie” Davis also has a cameo of her character.
literally who
this thing
literally who
Is this actually a character in the show or is it another fake autist thing you freaks like to do, like the fake simpletons character
It's the later but actually on the show
she's real
spongebob.fandom.com/wiki/Narlene
his name is GRAGGLE, thank you very much
It funny till they actually put him in the show and kill this meme. Not gonna respond again to you if you try to gaslight me.
They are going to put him in the show, probably in 2 years (when the meme will be at its funniest)
didn't his name used to be something else?
Yes graggle is jus his normalgay name
This fricking thing is suppose to a grown up narwhal.
she's very real
So this is who's making SpongeBob now. Jesus fricking Christ.
In the 2000's, they could've made easy bank if Spongebob had a special with Jimmy or FOP as an actual crossover
It's all just an attempt to rescue the failing spin-offs so who gives a shit?
Because Kamp Koral is hot garbage and no one really cares about the Patrick Star show. Also, crossing over with itself is just a shitty attemp to cash in on the current wave of multiverse hysteria.
I SAW SPONGEBOB AND I CLAPPED
I CLAPPED WHEN I- this has a Battle for Bikini Bottom reference, that's actually neat
https://twitter.com/jeezreeze12/status/1549272511539544066
Weird seeing characters from the later seasons also making a cameo there
Where is Derek Drymon when you need him?
Working at Sony
Jay Lender (a former writer and storyboard director for SpongeBob SquarePants) believes Modern SpongeBob should lessen the "le wacky faces" associated with the later seasons and focus more on dialog heavy jokes and only use wacky faces during an impactful moment.
hard agree. nu-bob relies so heavily on wacky faces and callbacks to old jokes that it's practically unwatchable.
He's right. I don't mind the wacky faces, but they REALLY should be used in moderation. They're supposed to highlight extreme moments and emotions. Using them constantly they just sort of makes them blend together, losing their effectiveness.
as a spongeboomer I never understood why people mention the overused references and wacky expressions as kiling the show.
I mean, that's part of it, but the real issue is the flanderization has gotten worse than Post-Movie's was. Especially Squidward and Patrick.
>crossover with itself
Holy shit its going to make a cartoon black hole and kill all of Nickelodeon
Kinda sad how much they abuse the "Member the first 3 seasons and movie" shit after they banned a episode from the 3rd season from streaming services, reruns and home media releases
where the hell is this red curtain stage scene from
>Nostalgia pandering is the best way to keep its relevancy alive, instead of coming up with original material because you will never live up to when you first peaked.
Even Paul Tibbitt’s run was at least trying to be its own thing.
When you remind people that the show used to be good you are making the new seasons look even worse
Don't forget they made an entire episode dedicated to the MY LEG fish
Based on the thumbnail, I thought it was going to be a Robot Jones crossover... oh well.
The frick is Kamp Koral? And when did Patrick get his own show? The frick?
Maybe we took the post season 4-pre Ren and Stimpy era for granted.
>crossover ratings trap
>in-universe characters
What the frick is the point of all this? They could've at least announced a crossover with some other Nicktoons, like The Loud House for instance. Aint nobody going to watch this shit
Stephen Hillenburg didn't want any crossover with other properties.
Anon SpongeBob was cancelled in 2004...
You've been in a coma for 18 years.
>There's no good shows to crossover with so it does itself
The gang's all here.
For a second there I saw the thumbnail and I thought spongebob was crossing over with ROBOT JONES of all things
Why did they change Patrick's parents on the Patrick Star Show? I know it shouldn't annoy me so much but it does. Hell, they could have even brought back his sister Sam as a character.
>Why did they change Patrick's parents on the Patrick Star Show?
Gotta make them more distinct I guess, I really don't know either
>Hell, they could have even brought back his sister Sam as a character.
Would've made an already bad show even worse
alternate universe. I thought they made that very clear by not only changing the art to make it look less like the main show, but also completely redesigning Spongebob. Kamp Koral and The Patrick Star Show exist in subsidiary universes that are completely different from the main show, and do not take place in official canon.
If they brought in previously established characters than they would’ve been forced to pay royalties to those writers, it’s the same reason why Tom Paris was created in Voyager, despite having the same actor and back story as the character nick lacarno in TNG
>Bring back Patrick’s sister
She actually cameo’ed in one of the episodes.
Remember the plotwist end of "im with stupid" same thing, no really is the same plot shit about "lol those arent my parents because im dumb"
...yeah
Because Vincent Waller is a menace
>Zone Spongebob collab
STOP IT DICK THERE ARE UNKNOWABLE VILE THINGS THAT WEREN'T MEANT TO BE FAPPED TO BY MORTAL HANDS
Why is Nickelodeon going so tryhard with their cashcow? Is Spongebob finally declining to the point of no return?
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. It feels like an exact mirror of TMNT's decline in the 90s, where suits see that it wasn't selling like it used to, so the put the IP into overdrive in the hopes of keeping it relevant through brute force. Spin offs up the ass, more movies, more toys, more games, everything SpongeBob's doing now.
Problem is that tends to have the opposite effect, driving audiences away from the oversaturation. The fact that Viacom learned NOTHING from this despite now owning TMNT makes this even more ironic.
You see, time is a flat circle.
>crossover with itself
Lame.
WHAT THE FRICK
THEY FOUND A LOOPHOLE
Its just incest but bad incest, not good incest
Bring back Mindy!
she's made 2 or 3 background cameos within the past few years. (she'll eventually have a cameo w/ actual voice-acting, give it time)
I really don't think they can pay off Johansson with their budget unless it's in another feature film
>First ever crossover
>With characters that started in SpongeBob
I am going insane.
Also didn't that foot fetish b***h from Camp Coral already show up in SpongeBob?
Also fricking Nosferatu showed up twenty years ago. Does that not count?
So time traveling?
ngl when i first heard the concept of crossover before watching the previews i thought it was going to feature Season 1-3 spongebob (the exact same styles) meeting the modern spongebob. It would a fun idea even though they occasionally reference the old episodes here and there on some episodes.
I'm going to be so old when SpongeBob is no longer Nick's golden goose
>Getting to see both the death of Spongebob and Nick because they have almost nothing else
You know, I was gonna say it’s weird how SpongeBob never crossed over with TFoP or Jimmy Neutron or Rocket Power but I realized Stephen probably put a stop to any dumb shit like that
And well…
I was worried this would happen.
Had SpongeBob ended 20 years ago, Nick would have badgered Hillenburg to make another cartoon that took place under the sea.
Almost kind of like how Nick would keep on getting Hartman to make more shows and they never turn out as good as his first show.
Then when shit gets bad they will just throw a crossover at you like they did with Rugrats and the Wild Thornberrys.
i hate that they promoted this like it was going to be an actual episode. What even was the point.
The people behind the Rugrats/Wild Thornberrys at least put effort behind their crossover and there were good moments
I remember watching it all the time on my VCR back in the day. Loved the movie but dunno it if it holds nowadays
It and the Hey Arnold movie were going to be a TV specials but they tested well with test audiences they put it on the bigger screen.
I like the name of the "the Tidal Zone". The last time they did a parody of the Twilight Zone, it wasn't spooky enough. I hope they lean into the creepy surreal horror of things. I haven't watched the spin-off shows, nor do I care for them. Narlean is annoying from her (likely exec. mandated) appearances in Spongebob.
Their is love for Spongebob by the storyboarders, it is evident in the show, and in blogs, et cetera. Although, primarily slapstick, I have a sneaking suspicion the writers are not allowed to be witty, or, at the very least, have to 'hit' certain beats in a story for specials. I don't have high expectations for this special. Even if the show does have some noteworthy returning writers sometimes, such as Kaz. Kaz had a hand in writing "Chocolate with Nuts", but he also wrote "Pat the Dog". Even if old writing talent comes in from the og seasons from time to time (such as Tim Hill for Sponge on the Run), they may not write a good special or work on it.
Do we know who is writing for the Tidal Zone?
>Do we know who is writing for the Tidal Zone?
Probably Mr. Lawrence or Kaz, most of the new episodes are written by them anyways
They have written some good, and bad episodes over the show's life. I feel like they should understand Spongebob the most out of the current crew of writers, but I fear they may write a fluke.
Sherm Cohen returned a few years ago but he's not writing, which is weird when you realize pretty much every old Spongebob has more than 2 writers per episode
I noticed that, too. Many episodes have 3 writers, even 4 sometimes. I don't think a single pre-movie episode has less than 2 writers.
It's strange to me that Mr. Lawrence, Tibbitt, and others can be on the show so long, even returning writers, and still it doesn't have as much witty jokes. I mean, there is sometimes, but it's clearly slapstick focused. I still think it's due to Nick execs.
A crossover is a sign that SpongeBob is soon going to die and it’s spinoffs will carry the show instead.
The only Spongebob crossover I approve of is Freddi Fish.
>crossover with the patrick star show
How does that even work? Does Patrick no longer appear in Spongebob?
Patrick is still in the main cast of Spongebob. However, the cast of thr Patrick show, besides Patrick, are not in Spongebob. There is like 1 episode where the squid sister appears in Spongebob.
Cleveland stopped appearing on Family Guy as a regular when he had a show, what is SpongeBob’s excuse?
