People keep calling the Endgame a cross over.

        Anonymous

That isn't even remotely comparable. This is literally characters from SpongeBob being in a SpongeBob episode, peddled as a "crossover". Nicktoons Unite counts as a crossover because they're from different IPs, despite being owned by the same company, same with Endgame.

This is just a blatant lie.

          Anonymous

          >Nicktoons Unite counts as a crossover because they're from different IPs, despite being owned by the same company, same with Endgame.
All the Endgame characters are from the same universe, any of them can be found within the same setting.

            Anonymous

Even so, Endgame is still more of a crossover than this Spongebob episode.
At least many of the characters that "crossovered" in Infinity War/Endgame starred in their own movies and originated from them before joining together.

This is just putting the puzzle piece back in the empty slot as Patrick Show and Kamp Koral were ripped from Spongebob in the first place.

The lack of a Squidward spin-off makes sense when you consider the fact he’s mainly popular with older teens and adults, and Nickelodeon has no fricking clue on how to capitalize on that demographic via shows.

He's right. I don't mind the wacky faces, but they REALLY should be used in moderation. They're supposed to highlight extreme moments and emotions. Using them constantly they just sort of makes them blend together, losing their effectiveness.

alternate universe. I thought they made that very clear by not only changing the art to make it look less like the main show, but also completely redesigning Spongebob. • 2 years ago

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. It feels like an exact mirror of TMNT's decline in the 90s, where suits see that it wasn't selling like it used to, so the put the IP into overdrive in the hopes of keeping it relevant through brute force. Spin offs up the ass, more movies, more toys, more games, everything SpongeBob's doing now.

Problem is that tends to have the opposite effect, driving audiences away from the oversaturation. The fact that Viacom learned NOTHING from this despite now owning TMNT makes this even more ironic.

ngl when i first heard the concept of crossover before watching the previews i thought it was going to feature Season 1-3 spongebob (the exact same styles) meeting the modern spongebob. It would a fun idea even though they occasionally reference the old episodes here and there on some episodes.

I'm going to be so old when SpongeBob is no longer Nick's golden goose

You know, I was gonna say it’s weird how SpongeBob never crossed over with TFoP or Jimmy Neutron or Rocket Power but I realized Stephen probably put a stop to any dumb shit like that
    And well…

I was worried this would happen.
Had SpongeBob ended 20 years ago, Nick would have badgered Hillenburg to make another cartoon that took place under the sea.
Almost kind of like how Nick would keep on getting Hartman to make more shows and they never turn out as good as his first show.
Then when shit gets bad they will just throw a crossover at you like they did with Rugrats and the Wild Thornberrys.

i hate that they promoted this like it was going to be an actual episode. What even was the point.

The people behind the Rugrats/Wild Thornberrys at least put effort behind their crossover and there were good moments

I like the name of the "the Tidal Zone". The last time they did a parody of the Twilight Zone, it wasn't spooky enough. I hope they lean into the creepy surreal horror of things. I haven't watched the spin-off shows, nor do I care for them. Narlean is annoying from her (likely exec. mandated) appearances in Spongebob.

Their is love for Spongebob by the storyboarders, it is evident in the show, and in blogs, et cetera. Although, primarily slapstick, I have a sneaking suspicion the writers are not allowed to be witty, or, at the very least, have to 'hit' certain beats in a story for specials. I don't have high expectations for this special. Even if the show does have some noteworthy returning writers sometimes, such as Kaz. Kaz had a hand in writing "Chocolate with Nuts", but he also wrote "Pat the Dog". Even if old writing talent comes in from the og seasons from time to time (such as Tim Hill for Sponge on the Run), they may not write a good special or work on it.

Do we know who is writing for the Tidal Zone?

Probably Mr. Lawrence or Kaz, most of the new episodes are written by them anyways

They have written some good, and bad episodes over the show's life. I feel like they should understand Spongebob the most out of the current crew of writers, but I fear they may write a fluke.

Sherm Cohen returned a few years ago but he's not writing, which is weird when you realize pretty much every old Spongebob has more than 2 writers per episode

I noticed that, too. Many episodes have 3 writers, even 4 sometimes. I don't think a single pre-movie episode has less than 2 writers.

It's strange to me that Mr. Lawrence, Tibbitt, and others can be on the show so long, even returning writers, and still it doesn't have as much witty jokes. I mean, there is sometimes, but it's clearly slapstick focused. I still think it's due to Nick execs.

A crossover is a sign that SpongeBob is soon going to die and it’s spinoffs will carry the show instead.

The only Spongebob crossover I approve of is Freddi Fish.

    >crossover with the patrick star show
How does that even work? Does Patrick no longer appear in Spongebob?

Patrick is still in the main cast of Spongebob. However, the cast of thr Patrick show, besides Patrick, are not in Spongebob. There is like 1 episode where the squid sister appears in Spongebob.

Cleveland stopped appearing on Family Guy as a regular when he had a show, what is SpongeBob’s excuse?
