Star Wars Extended Universe

Do you think George Lucas would have adapted these books if he didn't sell Star Wars to Disney?

Anakin Solo was a beast. The Yuuzahn Vong were perfect villains. Jaina was girlboss done right. Jacen was cringey tortured soul turned evil even better than Vader. Aside from the enjoyable but slightly exaggerated fan service to Mandos, it was a perfect series.
I liked the Mandos. But, the series made them a little too perfect.
Disney would never allow this to go on screen even if they adapted half of it. Jaina would always be unstoppable, perfect, no character progression, Anakin Solo would be written out, Jacen would have been evil from the get go, and the Vong would have been an oppressed slave species to humans that rose up in defiance of them.

Could be. Except Troy and Karen gave us more of what we wanted.
Yidsney is only about stronk womyn teaching stupid wypipo that they are idiots.
Karen had a hard on for writing about Mandos. She walked rather than make them pacifists. Yet Yidsney is still stealing her work to expand on Mandos.
Troy gave us decent work of family fighting and the Dark Nest while expanding on the creation of Alderaan.
Wasn't the greatest, but it was still better than "The Force is magically female, and prefers to manifest in black women with no depth, and we are going to write more about the superior black women, despite all black people coming from ONE planet where all of the blacks are Force sensitive, and the wypipo stole the Force power away from black people."

I was rather fond of the self insert character Corran Horn.
His lack of telekinesis while having Force power, energy absorption, and mental projection was a different approach.
He wasn't some invincible super fast warrior that could see your actions before you made them. He was just sneaky and smarmy, and could turn your own power against you.
I know he was a writer self insert. But, it was nice to see a character that wasn't capable of ripping Star Destroyers out of the sky or moving fast enough to break the sound barrier.

THIS. The twin dynamic between Jane (stupid name though) and Jaina would have been great with him as a Sith. I don't like how the book turned him Sith, seemed a little too emo goth for me, almost Kylo / Ben Solo tier. They should have removed the possibility of any redemption from Jane. Had him evil and ambitious to pursue power as a Jedi from the get go. His torture by the Vong should have sealed the deal. He should've rejoiced and embraced his full Sith Lord status after killing Mara Jade. The book had him like "um....I don't feel anything yet...." Gay. Lucas would have done it right.

Luke too disheartened to have to fight Vader 2.0, his nephew, would have been good character development instead of hermit Luke from the PT. Like "I'll help train you Jaina, but I'm not doing this shit all over again."
The moment Luke, Leia, Han learn Jacen is a Sith Lord could have made another great moment in the Star Wars trilogy. Like "how did we frick up so bad?" Instead we got Emo Solo and Clone Palpatine.

Jacen wasn't that bad of a name, and Darth Caedus was cold as shit.
Disney took all of the shit that made you dislike Jacen and tried to make them the selling points of Ben Solo.
Jacen was a nice, friendly, caring boy that had his crying over the death of ants tortured out of him.
His horror at a friendly sparring match leading to the dismemberment of his best friend and love interest through no fault of his own and then later dicking her down and having a child was excellent.
He only turned at the last minute back to the light side due to his love of his daughter even though he knew he was a dead man.
Jaina killed him even though she knew he had turned. She killed him because he was too much of a threat.
The mirrors to both the OT and PT are there.

Could have been better sounding J name. Yeah it was obvious Disney modeled Ben Solo after Jacen. Obvious to us who read the books. I don't mind Jacen turning to the Light after his daughter. I thought it was cool, I enjoyed their storyline in the books. Lucas would've done a kino job adapting it to the big screen.

        Luas Sequel Trilogy
Ep VII Heir to the Empire
Thrawn assumes command of the fleet. Yuuzhan Vong defeated by Imperial Remnant and Republic - in the rebuilding stages. Vong are defeated by the Jedi. Jacen is tortured, but has an "awakening" about the Dark Side of the Force. Turns Thrawn and dark Jedi for help - Asajj Ventriss. Thrawn signals true intentions to attack weakened Republic after Vong War.
Ep VIII Enter the Dark Lord
Mara Jade finds out Jacen turned to the Dark Side. Goes off on her own. Film has her trailing him against Luke's wishes. Jacen kills her in a duel, becomes Sith Lord, takes control of Empire with Thrawn at his side.
Ep IX Legacy of the Jedi
Ending depends on whether Lucas would want another sequel trilogy with Jacen and Jaina co-ruling as Sith Lords and Ben Skywalker teaching NJO. If not, more epic space battles, Jaina defeats Jacen in massive duel after Ben is nearly killed by Darth Jacen. Or joins and we have yet another trilogy with Ben and his NJO vs Dark Side Jaina and Jacen.

They were better than the trash George had lined up for possible sequels. The EU was literally the only thing that kept Star Wars alive and bustling for decades. It's why everyone was so damn excited when the prequels started coming out rather than having already forgotten star wars long ago.

      Prove it
      >inb4 wall of text screenshot about movies being more canon than books
None of that mentioned Mara Jade or any EU characters/stories. It was all to say that anything George says was gospel, and anything else that didn't contradict George could be canon until/unless he contradicted it later.

        >This
George did not dispute the stories after they were in print, but did have to approve them before they were published.
He did not allow stories through that he could later alter to fit his idea.
Which means he thumbed up the death of Chewbacca and the near divorce of Han and Leia.
RA Salvatore and James Luceno caught a lot of shit for those stories, but it gave the entire line of books believability and danger right out of the gate. Was no fun reading some of the EU stories, because you always knew Luke, Leia, and Han would be fine. All that changed when the Vong attacked.

          >because you always knew Luke, Leia, and Han would be fine. All that changed when the Vong attacked.
That was definitely the crux of everything. It's supposed to be this enormous "galaxy" yet always about this same small group of people with extreme plot armor. Plus there's so little that can attack them that wouldn't have plausibly already been around for a long time. Everything in the galaxy is known. So the EU authors had to bring in that enemy from outside the galaxy.

I mean, they killed characters who had been around for YEARS in SW mythos. They killed kids that we grew up delighting in watching them grow. Billions of other people and aliens became slaves or died. Kyp and the Star Crusher years before had been a horrific event, and the deaths that came from the Yuuzahn Vong made his antics seem like an angry child throwing a tantrum. Vader blew up planets, and Kyp blew up star systems, and the Vong just giggled at them and showed them how to REALLY kill a lot of people.
There were characters that had whole books devoted to them dying in fights against the Vong. Ganner Rhysode was a shit, and a little pansy frou frou boy. And yet, him tossing the pretty boy persona aside and laughingly killing thousands and thousands of Vong in combat made me love the dude.

No, he wouldn't have. He had his own vision for Star Wars, and as creator, it supercedes whatever anyone else came up with, even lovingly. However, even absolute shit created "lovingly" (which describes most of the EU) is far superior to anything Disney Wars shit out.

Leeland Chee, the guy who George paid to keep track of what was canon on what level. Basically movies+novelizations of movies > TCW and other EU works with direct GL creative direction > Rest of the EU > Stuff that they decide they can't retcon in a workable way to fit in a chronology (happened a lot in the clone wars era even before/after g-canon was implemented) > infinities (what if...) stuff.

George did take bits and pieces from the EU but he would always put his own spin and mark on them. Like he took the preexisting character of Assaj Ventress and smashed her together with the preexisting Nightsisters then also brought Maul into that organization. And George's Darth Bane is much gayer.

Generally speaking he was a bull in a china shop in the old EU in part because I think he didn't like that fans liked stuff that he didn't make while also being mad over the prequels. There were also things he specifically hated like wookiee Jedi (eventually he banned them) and anything with moral shades of grey. He absolutely hated KotOR 2 in particular. Then there were times where he just fricked with people like when they asked him to give a darth name to starkiller and that needed George approval. He, without any hesitation, offered either Darth Icky or Darth Insanius. And those were the two choices they had. So they picked neither.

why are you equating things that others in the company did to leland chee? i know pablo and leland both hate the old republic and have vetoed any canon content from it being made (it's a miracle dave was able to stick crusader helmets into clone wars) but shit like the clone wars retcons or the starkiller names were george's doing, not leland.

Leeland and Pablo played cleanup crew whenever George broke something in TCW. I think a lot of loose ends never really got tied up through since a lot of that was towards the end of Lucas owning it. I am saying that Leeland and George were generally the two people who had the most say over what was and was not canon and ultimately it all went back to George.

Prior to TCW things were significantly less messy because George boxed people out of movie territory and didn't operate outside of it. The canon of the old EU particularly in the CW era was already falling apart by the time of the Disney buy out. And the stuff George did there had major implications all across the EU. Like the nightsister changes fricked up the Han and Leia courtship story by association.

nexus isn't bad but it's also a shit word and doesn't really vibe with the darth names

Honestly even if George never sold it, the sequels would've been completely different from the EU, since It has Darth Maul and Darth Talon and the imperial remnants as the main villains. /EU/cels here would still b***h cry on how George didn't follow the EU and done his own thing.
The creation of 2008 TCW and Ahsoka has proven it.

george wouldn't have retconned all eu for his sequel trilogy, just anything after return of the jedi, and that would be for the best because all that shit was a continuity nightmare.

      That's fricking moronic.
I got the clone of Luke, created to match him in combat and skill.
The whole Force buzzing and insanity the closer to Luuke that Luke got made sense.
Luuke using Luke's lightsaber, from the hand he lost on Bespin, everything fit.
Should have stopped with the first clone. Not Zahn's best work, and it shows that he took Yidsney money rather than pissing on it and walking away.
Karen Traviss pissed on it and walked away rather than change the stories she wrote.

        Anonymous

karen didn't piss on it, she left because filoni wars de-canonized her books that weren't canon to begin with and for good reason, she made the commandos too op

          Anonymous

Karen wanted free thinking clones, that had their own agency in whether or not they followed through with Order 66. Some fought it, others didn't.
Yidsney went the route of "Clones have a chip in their head and had no choice!"
That was a marketability stunt. If you make the clones bad guys because they are mind controlled, it fits some obscure tenet Yidsney has where you're not really a bad guy if you were mind controlled, and they can make money off your likeness. They needed Stormtroopers to be really good guys with no choice in the matter in order to sell toys of them according to this weirdly worded ideal of what Disney could and could not make money off of at the time.
Yidsney even ordered Clone Troopers to be altered before they would buy Star Wars. It was part of the fricking deal to buy Star Wars.
Yet Karen Traviss was offered a deal to write for Disney. And she she shit on it and walked away rather than disavow what she spent years building. She had a ladyboner for the clones and Mandos, I do not pretend otherwise. Yet she stuck by her passion and would rather see it ended than compromise what she believed in.
Cost her Yidsney money, but I am certain she was fine with that.

            Anonymous

well i don't blame her for refusing a disney deal
but free thinking clones who are genetically altered to be subservient just doesn't work, the chip was a better idea and a failsafe in case any clones did become free thinkers (which filoni wars has ample cases of)

              Anonymous

I got what she was going for. The clones were conditioned endlessly, and lived in terror of being judged defective.
They lived daily with the fear that being five seconds slow on a ten mile run would get them executed.
Two missed shots on a qualification, executed.
You chose to help your brother from birth with stuffing gauze in his gut wound rather than shooting at the enemy? Executed.
The clones were dehumanized and treated from hatching to be flesh machines. Any deviance and they were killed.
But free will was never taken from them.
They still had a choice to obey or disobey. Most chose to obey, until they got a taste of the outside world and how normal people lived.
Then, many began to question their forced life.
It was a journey, they did what they had to do to survive, and once they learned that they could be more, or do something else, they had the choice to stay where they had learned to be comfortable or to venture out into unknown territory.
There was no "zzzaaap you had a wrongthink" and you went back to being a good little drone.
There was one clone that I remember caught on to the bullshit early and escaped with the help of a Cuy'Val Dar medic. Never would have happened if they had chips.
Chips took away the essential humanity the clones had and turned them into flesh robots operating under preset orders.
Etain told the clones, multiple times, that they all felt different in the Force, and that even though they came from the exact same genetic material, their experiences were what made them different, and their own person.
That is why I hate the chips. A Disney cash grab and further dehumanizing the clones.

i don't believe this because one of the first things that happened as soon as lucasfilm was sold was the clone wars was fricking canceled, they had five seasons in the pipeline at that point and brought the series to netflix with "the lost episodes" as new content but almost all of it had been produced prior to even early negotiations, the chip first appeared in that netflix season. i am currently looking for the particulars but most of these articles have nothing.

The chips were introduced by Lucas during the original run of TCW

The chip thing is stupid because the main driving force for order 66 was Palpatine getting authority over the Jedi order after the Battle of Coruscant. The Jedi's mistake was trying to end the war alongside forcing Palapine to step down without the Delegation of 2000 and having Anakin on their side.

Just to add more: If chips were that effective, how come the human clone were still produced instead using the Yinchorri? Whose immunity to telepathic users would prevent the Jedi from even sensing the bio-chips?

Order 65 would have negated any problems for the Jedi. But, the Jedi had been too long in power, and did not read the fine details of the contract when they took control of what was essentially a slave army.
Mace could have clicked the universal circuit and uttered "Execute Order 65" and the clones would have been loyal to him instead.
Palpatine gambled on the Jedi being arrogant enough to just accept the assistance without looking too close, as, after all, it WAS a Jedi that created and paid for the creation of the slave army, so why wouldn't they be loyal to the Jedi?
Old man had balls and the viciousness to back it up. He deserved to win that round.

                >Mace could have clicked the universal circuit and uttered "Execute Order 65" and the clones would have been loyal to him instead.

That would've been possible right after the battle of Coruscant, right before the senate gave Palpatine control of the entire military and the Jedi order. Even then, if Windu could do Order 65, the Senate had to agree with that. The Order still answered to the Senate.

                Anonymous

That is a very clever point. I have to say that I have thought of it, and went with the deciding factor of either side taking control of the clones being removed from any Senate oversight still meant that the clones were up for grabs by either the Jedi or Palpatine.
The Jedi just did not pay enough attention, and were ignorant of the Chancellor's end plan anyway.
Palpatine built a masterful trap, and the Jedi fell into it full speed ahead.

                >The chip thing is stupid
When I was younger I thought the whole point of clones instead of machines is because their minds can't be hacked. Clones have been trained over an extensive period of time that it would take effort to manipulate their minds, while machines can be hacked in an instant. We see this to a degree with the droid army on Naboo shutting down when the starship HQ is blown up.

Honestly even if George never sold it, the sequels would've been completely different from the EU, since It has Darth Maul and Darth Talon and the imperial remnants as the main villains. /EU/cels here would still b***h cry on how George didn't follow the EU and done his own thing.
The creation of 2008 TCW and Ahsoka has proven it.

also worth noting is that he really loved Shadows of the Empire and said that if he had the script and story worked out back in the 80s he would have made that movie. He was pretty involved in that project. He was on the whole pretty in tune with everything going on in the EU and in the early-mid 90s during its early years actually a lot more positive towards it in general. It's after the prequels got fan hate that he changed how he felt. I think he always kind of hated post ROTJ stuff though.
