Lucas' Star Wars still has plenty of humorous moments but they aren't crafted bits. Compare Qui-gon and Obi-wan's banter in PM or Leia's argument with Han at the beginning of ESB to Poe's "your mom" joke. Taika's got plenty of talent and I'm not putting it past him to make a good movie, but I'm very worried about the tone.
If you watched his Mandalorian episode, you know he's a catastrophe. The episode starts with a long very unfunny joke about stromtroopers torturing baby Yoda.
Taika also turned Ragnarok into a comedy movie In Marvel comics Ragnarok is the eternal cycle of death and rebirth for the Asgardians. During this cycle, Asgard is destroyed and a number of gods will die. and even though Thor watched all the Asgardians die he still laughed like a fool during the whole movie
Literally every director chosen for Star Wars since Disney acquired it has been a bad fit. Irvin Kershner was famous for war films and fit perfectly.
But Disney decided " We have Spielberg at home" JJ abrams was a good pick, and then followed his trash up with Rian Johnson, best known for directing an episode of Breaking Bad he didn't write and Looper.
