Because the Republic was actually shit. It was corrupt, inefficient, favoured the core worlds and had let corporations go beyond the state. The Empire was stable, protected worlds from pirates, nationalised stuff like the Trade Federation and Techno Union and employed loads of people.

Basically this, how the fuck do you run a republic with a senate that has the authority to give full power to a single individual. Kind of defeats the purpose of a senate.
It was in self defence. Alderaan was a state sponsor of terrorism. If the empire didn't take them out they would have hampered imperial efforts against the rebellion internally much like how the Radical Whigs made every effort to undermine the British govnemnt during the Revolutionary war.
I love how Star Wars has such childish binary morality where the good guys are just really good and the bad guys are Saturday morning cartoon villains but Cinemaphile can’t accept how childish it is so they project depth where none exists
Most people who joined the Empire did so under the belief that they were protecting people, planets and galaxy, against crime of all types. Much like how the 3rd riech was so popular before 1943, as many people in the early days believed Germany was liberating them from Crime oppression.
wtf are grey jedi? homosexuals that believe you need some evil to exist and if good wins too much they fuck it over like harpers and other true neutral naggers in FR?
its something from the old star wars RPG games from the early 2000's that never should have caught on. it only exists to give you the option to be neutral rather than jedi or sith. it is wank.
Jedi was going to turn on the people and it was a brilliant stroke to use Dooku and his lackeys as the face of CIS.
Republic was just going super badly and being corrupt as fuck
I don't know on what website I read this, but there was a theory that the New Republic is an allegory for the current US and the First Order is Russia, despite the Nazi imagery. That's why there were so many female libs who are fans of the First Order between TFA and TLJ, because they thought it would be later revealed that Kylo Ren and Hux were actually the good guys.
The Republic maintained the status quo whereby some people are successful and others are not. The Empire appealed to people's fear of becoming the ones who are not. Many such cases.
Republic bad, empire worse.
The Republic was corrupt and incompetent in its final days, but there were mechanisms for reform. The Empire runs on mechanized brutality, and there are no conventional ways to reform it beyond killing the Emperor himself. Also, in universe a lot of people would see the Empire as a continuity of the Republic, a more efficient form of government created in the wake of a brutal civil war with the goal of ensuring anarchy never reigns again. A lot of people are down for that in the abstract, until storm Troopers start going house to house arresting people.
Probably the republic allowed slavery and destitution to go on
Why are the Jedi pro-Republic then?
Because they had major political sway over the entire ruling government
...because they had more influence under them.
I think you mean ~~*Jedi*~~.
Republic didn’t have control over outer rim planets lol
Neither did the Empire. Tatooine for instance was still basically run by Criminals.
Whereas the Empire straight up enslaved people themselves.
Retard. Tatooine is not part of the Republic.
Yes, the rebels are bad. They can only destroy, not build. Which is why the Empire, as bad as it is, is preferable.
How did that old saying go? "Evil cannot create"
hmmm interesting
the stormtroopers look cool, that's why the empire won

Republic was trash, that's part of the point. Empire was still way worse though. Especially in the outer rim.
>Empire was still way worse though. Especially in the outer rim.
pleb opinion
Empire blew up a planet.
Alderaan Delenda Est.
Alderaan had it coming, smug cunts.

>ITT: amerimutts projecting their political retardation into manchild fiction
Your country deserves to be nuked to oblivion
do right-wingers support the empire or republic?
Empire obviously and that's a good thing
Right wing support republic but the far/alt right support the empire
You mean aeilns
I love how Star Wars has such childish binary morality where the good guys are just really good and the bad guys are Saturday morning cartoon villains but Cinemaphile can’t accept how childish it is so they project depth where none exists
Look at all the trump tards irl.
I think the point is that they're both trash. Most civilians probably had it better under the Republic as they weren't as controlling as the Empire.
please stay in your containment thread
no

ah ty. so its from bioware who made a game including harpers.
The entire concept of Grey Jedi is retarded. Collectivism versus individualism are the two philosophies. Fence sitters deserve the rope.
Damn straight
>Join the empire
>Get killed by some nagger for letting Obi Wan escape.
Emperor gaslighted everyone into thinking the "republic" suddenly turned on the people and he was gonna save them.
Jedi was going to turn on the people and it was a brilliant stroke to use Dooku and his lackeys as the face of CIS.

We will never know since the story ended with the Empire's defeat in episode 6.
how? first order was basicaly empire on steriods but even more militaristic and unhinged

democrats = republic/jedi
republicans = empire/sith
