Agreed. Karl, although a bit of an ignorant dimit, is still a nice guy at heart who really didn’t deserve the constant abuse he got from Ricky. I really wish Karl just went mental one day and said “ive enough of this” and knocked Ricky flat on his arse.
It is funny how Karl always directs his anger at Steve though
Listen to the shows where he deleted a message with a voice acting job for Steve. Or when he was saying Steve's being a DJ wasn't that impressive because he did it before, clearly jealous. Karl can be a prick in ways the other two wouldn't even think of.
tbf I'd just go home if I turned up and that prick Robin was there when I've already made it quite clear I think that he's an insufferable little gremlin
The worst is the story about Ricky's mate Robin, Karl was such a dick to him for no other reason than he talks too much
Karl can definitely get defensive and mean-spirited sometimes, usually towards Steve but probably to others too. But Ricky and Steve really have some objectionable character traits
Yeah I can't listen to that voice acting message episode since Karl's being such a dick in it. The one where Ricky won't let Karl play MAAAAAAAAARRRRRRSSS... bar bar bar pisses me off too, I usually skip through it.
The Karl vs Steve bits are the worst parts for me too.
Yeah, I don't get people who viciously hate one of the 3 and wish they weren't on it (usually either Steve or Rick obviously).
Without Steve, Ricky would shut Karl down at the start of his stories and we wouldn't get a ton of good content
Without Ricky, Steve would probably let Karl wind on for too long and we wouldn't get all of Karl's daft justifications and half-baked 'proof' to Ricky like the Fortean Times
And without Karl, well about 98% of the show disappears.
Cashier at the supermarket gave me 20 dollars extra change and I gave it back. I'd probably take zero. Although Steve did say it was a large bank balance...
>Although Steve did say it was a large bank balance...
He probably meant 200 or 300 pounds, Steve is a cheap stingy blighter. I would not take anything, regardless of the balance, unless I was in dire straights myself. Steve was not poor so there is no defending it.
I wouldn't have a problem with someone helping himself to £30 off a loaded foreign student, but Steve gets livid over not having 50p returned from a mate. Total hypocrite.
There was a bunch of unreleased audio uploaded and I can't find it any more. So many videos have the similar titles but this was legit audio from XFM days that seems to have been cut from the copies I have of the show. If anyone has the video please post it
Agree completely. Merchant's got some legendary lines throughout their work.
Ricky did say a lot of funny things before his objective switched to just annoying Karl. This also made Karl go downhill to an extent because he was never able to get one word in without Ricky pretending not to understand what Karl was talking about even though it was pretty obvious to everyone listening.
Their dynamic peaked late S1 and early S2 before Karl's holiday. That was when everything went downhill but at least Karl's quizzes kept it afloat.
For me, it's S1E23, when Karl is just telling stories freely and the other two are laughing along and chipping in with funny jokes about it.
whoever drew these characters for the animated show really did a good job conveying their personalities. Only seen a few episodes of the cartoon show but it was pretty good in parts

Ricky Gervais was absolute kino, for about half a decade he must have been the naturally funniest guy ever, now he's a knobhead. I reckon it's the losing weight that did it to him.
I wonder how they all think back on the XFM shows now? Every social media post Steve makes is bombarded with quotes from the show and I've heard interviews with Karl where he implies that people still joke with him about his stories.
I think the Ricky Gervais Reddit is basically just XFM stuff and given how he seems quite thin skinned on social media he must have looked it up.
All that Hollywood glamour and success and the shite you spoke on a tinpot radio station 20 years ago is still one of the l things you're remembered most fondly for.
In 2004 I met Ricky Gervais at London zoo, I was only about 7, we had a school trip to the zoo for a special event run by him as he was promoting his children's book "Flanimals".
The premise was he basically came up with these absolutely useless fictional animals and had them illustrated and put in a book. We all had to read the book in school the day before the trip and I was very excited to see these weird fricking animals in person. Was very disappointed when we arrived to see that they were clearly blokes in suits.
Anyway Ricky was there talking to our class about these animals as if he was a zookeeper and I kept putting my hand up to ask him if they were actually guys in suits. I don't remember his response but anyway we all got a signed book at the end which I kept until my mum fricking lost it the fat b***h.
Pic related, the book in question. I've since been to a few of his shows and I've always wanted to ask him if I ever caught up with him what kind of spice he was on when he came up with it

Steve and Ricky are both equally pretentious, it's just that Ricky's manchild shenanigans kind of disguise it.
Don't forget they are all English and therefore self loathing misanthropes
Yeah I can't listen to that voice acting message episode since Karl's being such a dick in it. The one where Ricky won't let Karl play MAAAAAAAAARRRRRRSSS... bar bar bar pisses me off too, I usually skip through it.

Are you having a go?
Now I think about it it's probably Ricky that's the worst part of the their arguments.
First one with all three right is the winner.

Frick off, Steve.
best parts are the karl vs steve insults and fights
If anyone spoke to Ricky the way he spoke to Karl he'd throw a giant tantrum.
In the end it was Chad merchant that got the hottest gf by far
We don't know what suzanne looks like
I listened to XFM in spite of Gervais. Unfunny manbaby.
im calling in about your butt plugs
steve=thing in men in black 2
99% of the time Ricky comes off as the brainlet
Steve should get more credit for telling Ricky to shut the frick up whenever Ricky is talking all over Karl
Yeah, I don't get people who viciously hate one of the 3 and wish they weren't on it (usually either Steve or Rick obviously).

Well if it was a foreign Chinese student they probably had heaps of cash. Nothing wrong with taking 20 quid from invasive foreign Chinese students
I wouldn't have a problem with someone helping himself to £30 off a loaded foreign student, but Steve gets livid over not having 50p returned from a mate. Total hypocrite.

Karl was always the king.

Still crazy to me that people know and love the podcasts but have no knowledge of the infinitely superior XFM shows.
Who tf wants to listen to a radio show from 2002? (Me 25+ times)
3 hour xfm compilation of karl and steve insulting each other is peak comfy
>he's done you again!
I like it when they're getting along and making jokes about people who used to live round Karl's estate.

that's rickydiculous!
XFM Ricky would think that Neo-Ricky is a fulking cump.
