Still, strange feelings arise when you see amateur models that are many times superior to the concepts and art of "professional" mecha designers.

I wonder why paid originals often look like lame piles of scrap metal, and custom ones from enthusiasts look like real combat vehicles?

Same reason why commercial Lego sets end up underwhelming after a certain scale: need to budget for parts or you end up with a Warhammer situation where models are hideously expensive.

this, plus professional designers will have a bunch of old businessmen nagging them to remove or redesign shit

Rather, it was necessary to add armor elements for greater protection of this mobile artillery support in case of an enemy strike on the second line...

I fricking hate the movie-by-commitee shit. It's the reason why disney's MCU-homosexualry fricking sucks ass, forced identity politics aside.

this thing is supposed to be superior to what exactly? certainly not the Tieren

Are you kidding me? The artillery variation of Tieren in 00 was extremely unsuccessful structurally, because the gun module was installed in place of the head, which forced the redesign of part of the hull, the support from the retractable spike is very doubtful from the point of view of stability, the gun is one and creates difficulties during transportation.

The custom version from OP just solves all these problems. There are two guns and they are mounted, which avoids the need to redo the hull, and also facilitates their dismantling or replacement for transportation or repair. The support from the rear armor plate still gives the necessary stability, they even guessed to add reactive armor to him

And the question is why the author of the original design - a "professional", apparently from the word "anal" - could not think of such elementary and basic design features of a combat robot?

Because you don't really have time to do that shit when you have a lot more shit to do and a lot more people to deal with.

        >Do multiple sketches of designs to show to the bosses
        >some sketches get rejected, some get some pointers from said bosses, etc etc
        >rinse and repeat till you get a design that is fully approved
        >Nice, now do up the detail drawings
        >and make sure the design isn't too complex for animation
        >oh and do some up variants of this grunt design for different roles, you know we need some artillery in this episode so do up an artillery version
        >that artillery variant needs to go through the bosses as well, good fricking luck getting those new drawings approved

now here me out for moment
what if people kitbashing with no deadline
    now just stick with me
can make good looking things with an over abundance in detail compared to someone who has to design something that then needs to be animated for an entire series and now days must be able to be turned into a model from the get go

      >>what is mass production
It's not serious. The same Zaku have a lot of inappropriate and unnecessary details like hoses / cables on the surface of the armor and steam pork snouts... Nevertheless, this crap has passed the animation commission, and in Gundam UC is a mass production model that has generated many imitations also overloaded with unnecessary design elements.

It's no coincidence this model looks so similar.

      >looks so similar
It's funny, but we're not talking about the current reality, but about worlds in which there are mecha as real combat vehicles and, unfortunately, their official appearance often looks stupid.

Compare, at least, the author's Boomerang from Kyoukai Senki and its custom version from a fan

I would hire a modeler to work on the mecha design, and not an artist who drew the original mediocrity.

And you'd still end up disappointed, because the people paying the modeler would put the same demands on him as on the professional.
