Sure. But in the context of that season I interpret it as him still trying to hold onto his childlike innocence. Hence why he wanted to continue to do childish things instead of doing what the rest of the group did and "get a girlfriend"
Personally I was in middle school and I had friends who ditched school and went to kickbacks to smoke drink and play grown ups while I said no and stayed at home playing video games. Now i have a wife and a kid on the way but I really just wasnt interested back then in trying to chase girls like that. So maybe that's why I saw it a different way.

Like I said the signs are innocuous at best. There are plenty of kids in Wills position, like myself who just wanted to hold onto being a kid much longer than normally anticipated and I was teased like Will for doing so. To me it felt like a lack of confidence but once again , I'm just going off my personal experiences.

I had a 5th grade dance like that for my graduation where my teacher forced everyone in the class to pair up and I got Tenzin. I didn't like her, she didn't like me, and I made that same fricking face because I wanted to dance with Jackie. Again this really could be interpreted many ways but because Homosexuality is so prevalent there isn't much room for nuance when it comes to this shit anymore.
At least the show is keeping its homos consistent with the time period in how Will and Robin keep their gayness hidden since they don’t want to be ostracized by the judgmental people in the 80s.
