Nah, I'll watch hollywood slop over A24 any day. They used to be good up to 2017 or so, but since then it's been mostly pseudo intellectual trash that basically screams "LOOK MOMMY I'M MAKING ART". Men and EEAAO were some of the worst movies I watched last year.
EEAOO is just a bunch of lol randum visual ideas and a typical Hollywood plot, nothing "LOOK I'M MAKING ART" about it.
Men kinda was that. Garland really fucked up with that one, but Ex Machina was good, and Dredd movie was basically directed by him even if the other person was credited.
Also most people just seethe at someone attempting something different because they have this idea in their head that when someone tries something different they're trying to assert some sort of superiority over the "common viewer". Schizo shit. It's at best a gatekeeping method, like Tark once said that he makes the movies slow from the start so that people who are not into his stuff knew that they made a mistake or went into a wrong theater. But most of the time the person is just doing what he likes himself. People think everyone should pander to them, even tho historically first the movie comes out and then the audience forms around it. Shit that panders gets forgotten.
Both A24 hate and A24 cultism are retarded.
A24 is mainly a distribution and occasionally a production (and most of the time they are only co-producers) company. Specializes on american indie and sometimes distribution of foreign festival films. But it's not the only company of such kind. There's NEON which arguably has better selection. There's Annapurna which admittedly isn't very prolific. There's Sony Pictures Classics. From more obscure stuff there's Grasshopper Films that distributes mostly foreign festival cinema that's of lesser fame than the stuff NEON and A24 pick up.
There's basically nothing that special from A24, it's not a mark of quality, but it's also not Disney or something, it doesn't dictate the way the films are made. Some indie films are good and some are not.
But supporting low to middle budget filmmaking overall is a positive thing. If the modern studio system collapses, we can have a "New New Hollywood" period.
>There's NEON which arguably has better selection.
they have kinos but to say they have better selection than A24 is simply retarded. They don't even come close in the number of kinos
A24 has more famous stuff, but NEON is better for deep cuts. And quite often they're more interesting. NEON also seems to be picking up every Golden Palm winner since they hit it big with Parasite. Titane has some following, Triangle was relatively successful. Anatomy of a Fall is probably the least mainstream oriented winner since Winter Sleep, so it's not getting much traction, but looks like a decent film.
Basically reddit thinks every director is rian johnson.
Last time Rian made an interesting film it was called Brick.
I used to trust A24 judgement, a lot of the movies they back up are movies I really enjoyed.
I just saw "talk to me" and The Killing of a Sacred Deer yesterday and I don't respect them anymore
"it's different, therefore is deep" fucking garbage
Talk To Me is a regular horror movie.
Killing of a Sacred Deer is kino. >it's different therefore it's deep
No one said that. Maybe someone on letterboxd did but who gives a fuck about what someone there said. Killing of a Sacred Deer is in fact extremely straightforward thematically. It's tension building and effective sense of dread is what is great about it. Not the best Lanthimos film tho.
I don't see how. I guess not everyone likes Lanthimos style with the deadpan comedy mixed with dark concepts, but I really get a kick out of it. In Killing of A Sacred Deer I particularly love the blindfold scene. I think it's also the moment where the cinematography really shines. Most of the film is quite static and cold, and the switches to handheld camera in certain shots are very effective. His new film looks like a major sellout tho.
>look mom I'm pretending to be retarded on the internet
everyone knows you fucked up basic rudimentary shit and now you're trying to save face with the old "actually I was trolling you olololol" shtick, no one is buying it
Dunno where to post this, but here's a script I wrote to fix the long requests to load images here. You can install it with the TamperMonkey extension in your browser. I tested it for two minutes and lgtm
le 360 le same le direction
Not using radians. How embarrassing.
>Cinemaphile hates hollywood slop
>but also hates companies that encourage indie filmmaking
What do you fuckers want?
>movie's good
>Cinemaphile hates it
>movie's bad
>Cinemaphile likes it
it gets easier to browse this board after you get it
>point this out
>HURR DURR A24 IS LE WOKE!!!
These fuckers just want something to bitch about

Well, at least he's honest
A24 is just a production company. They let their directors do what they want. What's the big deal Cinemaphile?
Also, picrel is kino.
Cinemaphile is a bunch of chuds who seethe at the idea of creative freedom or freedom in general
When it comes to modern movies, I watch almost exclusively A24

Killing of a Sacred Deer was mind-numbingly retarded, anon

>Nah, I'll watch hollywood slop over A24 any day
That's actually me!
You mean a 180.
Gotta try harder with that bait anon
a 180 is an about face where you end up facing the opposite direction, which is what you would want to do if you were planning on leaving immediately
a 360 means you end up facing the same direction you started facing
you are stupid
Doubling down won't work
>look mom I'm pretending to be retarded on the internet

lurk moar newfag

It would not be morally wrong to end this person's life
projecting

https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/475695-Cinemaphile-fixer
don't click this, it makes mustard gas
The code is so simple even Cinemaphile users will understand it
Seems to work better, thanks anon
hate towards A24 has nothing to do with the quality of their movies. And because of that it's not worthy of a discussion
I do a 360 and sit in my seat to enjoy kino.
