It's kind of like how every horror movie still ends with a SHOCKING TWIST THE KILLER IS STILL ALIVE AND KILLS THE MC like it hasn't been done a thousand times for the last 40 fucking years.
I like what Frozen did with it. I was expecting the obvious subversion that her true love is Sven, but then the act of true love ended up coming from her sister.
Anytime some writer or director starts talking about "subverting expectations" I know that what they really subverted was the expectation that the show or movie would be good.
The problem is that many modern directors/writers are hacks that see subversion as the greatest literary tool in the world. So theyll subvert just for the sake of subverting even if it makes no sense. A food analogy would be like a chef taking a fat shit on your plate and telling you that he subverted your expectations because you werent expecting to be served fecal matter
The sun has become so dim, one could mistake it for the moon
At this point when tropes are played straight I'm surprised
Go back to TV Tropes.
I don't post on TV Tropes, that place is cancer

Incest is wincest
Its not subversion anymore its mainstream judaism.
Fox News conservatism is more subversive at this point
Wrong as always Ivan.

Threaten to subvert and then never actually do it.
Honestly. We need more straight-forward, non-ironic movies coming out.
Novelty, creativity, and originality are so passe. This is the era of mass marketing and petty manipulation and tropes.
>Novelty, creativity, and originality
Not just these, but sincerity too.

How does one subvert subversion?
At this point, the biggest subversion isnto just make a good movie
>stereotypes are so boring (not to mention racist/sexist)
>does the opposite of the stereotype for 10 years
>so unique and unpredictable
