Nonsense. The costume designers get paid if they simply go to thrift stores or order on line from Crapazom or direct from department stores, or go to costume shops in Hollywood or elsewhere.

And they get paid the same if they design outfits for Middle Earth Hobbits or for USA Army soldiers or anything else that exists in fiction/comics or real life.

They are being paid for the craft work, just like the people doing the stunt work or camera work even if the finished image matches say a comic book image. Frank might have gotten a check from BvS in the same way that Shooter got a check for KGBeast but the stunt actor who did the actual scene, Ben, the costume designer, the production or CGI person who did the lighting and lightening effect - all those people definitely got paid their regular and standard salaries even if this is similar to a comic book panel.

homosexual Hollywood designers don’t get paid unless they make everything Lineslineslines anon. If not they’d need to credit the original artists as designers.

Shut up homosexual the batfleck suit was redesigned for the exact same reason. No trunks, random textures and different textiles, different bat symbol. Being referential isn’t the same as being exact and for exactly the reasons anon said.

They’d have to credit and pay the original artists if they directly adapted the designs.

You're cherrypicking what's too goofy for live action and what isn't. We already got a comic accurate Superman 50 years ago and it's still the highest grossing movie in his franchise when adjusted for inflation

You are making two different points and ascribing them to everyone who didn't like the Hack Cult Leader's costumes AND don't like this.

It's a badly lit image and clearly a post-fight/post-action damaged suit, so I'm willing to give it a slight pass, but even if it's better lit and not filtered to death (the way the Cavill suit as since in person it's no where near as dark as photographed), the new suit is crappy for OTHER reasons.

for years about the muted colors and texture of the Cavill suit
people complained that they didn't have trunks

Nah, more people complained about the filters, dark saturation, coloring, etc.

Hope this goes viral a bit

It has but not as much as the meme's. And the entire story is not trending as much elsewhere as it here and a few (very few) other genre/co type places.

I mean what the frick was Gunn thinking? Well I know what he was going for, revealing the suit while simultaneously teasing the plot. But holy frick it just looks bad. The studio lighting, desaturated colors, and the crappy cgi background. It looks AI generated. Very MCU-like which shouldn’t be surprising I guess since Gunn is responsible for the modern MCU. And then the suit itself is just lame, there’s nothing exciting or noteworthy about it. It’s an uphill battle for Gunn and Corenswet. Cavill set a high bar in terms of looks and charisma. Not impossibly high but Gunn needs to prove that ditching Cavill was the right decision and that he can do it better. This pic is just not it. Cavill should not be trending, it should be the other way around. Whether or not this movie flops comes down to the trailers and rest of the promotion. Superhero movies have never been less safe.

We just caught Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare; Henry is not particularly charismatic in that, unless you think looking decent in an action movie is charisma. He was far better in Man From Uncle, for example. But he was never charismatic in MoS or BvS.

From what I see, the suit seems rather baggy at the top. Not as form fitting as we're used to seeing. Plus the colors look somewhat muted, maybe it's the lighting. That and it appears to be damaged with patches of soot covering the symbol and arms. Also it has those unnecessary lines that have been common in recent superhero costume designs.

He may just be looking down at his boot. Eyes can sometimes appear closed when someone is looking down and the camera isn't angled to compensate for the head tilt, assuming they even want the eyes to be visible.

Why is basketball texture somehow not cheap? Why can't it just be high quality cloth? Why does the texture have to be so noisy and overpower the actual design?

The reason Henry's costume had that texture is because Zack Snyder wanted to Superman suit to look like an alien version of a knight's armor. That was what he was going for. Like if Superman was a modern King Arthur.

That's cloth textile, it looks great when it's not rushed CGI

You are not EVER going to get away from this type of fabric.

They best you might get is something that matches athletic gear, like lycra, polyester or nylon or a combination of those (which is what these suits all are), and only for someone who doesn't have to be majorly buff or muscular and who would be comfortable wearing something that would essentially look like a child's PJ onesie.

And even someone muscular (like Holland actually is under his shirt) still is going to wear padding because muscles just don't photograph well unless he was wearing skin-tight nylon or skin-tight lycra and even then, if you look at muscular athletes who are fully clothed and not wearing pads, it still doesn't show off muscles (soccer/rugby players are perfect examples here, MBB players who are muscular versus tall and lean, etc.).

You don't really see this in some athletes because they either don't have the body type or have to wear pads or other equipment (NFL/CFB players)

The public doesn't care about the trunks one way or the other. But for fans, it's a good litmus test on whether or not you're honoring the character. Removing them is trying too hard to make the character "cool". But a guy who calls himself "Superman" and wears a big red cape, matching red boots, and a blue onesie with his logo emblazoned on his chest is never going to look cool.

Everyone needs to relax about the costume. It’s obvious what Gunn has in store for Superman.
Gunn has repeatedly stated his desire to bring a Superman movie closer to the character’s thematic roots. You don’t think he’s aware of the numerous issues people have had with Superman this past decade. There is no greater indication of this drift than Superman’s costume, whether that be Snyder’s suit or the Nu52 suit. Here Gunn purposefully designed a mismatch of the two, a purposefully confused and ugly outfit which “doesn’t fit Superman quite right,” because this alien suit was NOT made for Superman. This is a deliberate choice to show the themes Snyder explored, and grit of the Nu52 (symbolized by the stained emblem) are NOT Superman
In the past decade, we’ve seen series with both classic and modern looks (Superman and Lois, Young Justice, etc.). Typically, Superman starts with the classic suit and later gets his modern suit. Gunn is doing the opposite: we start with the ill fitting modern design and move into the form fitting classic suit.
By the end of the movie, Superman will have a classic Superman outfit. Screen cap this

None of that shit matters to anyone making this movie, the costume looks different because they want the toys to look different

        Anonymous

This most likely. Even if fans think they've nailed a look, they get a new suit next time. Look at Batman in BvS, literally perfect then next time we got pointless tweaks to the ears, padding, and a goggle suit that looked like Nite Owl. Superman's suit somehow wasn't changed much, but they probably should have from a marketing perspective (Snyder was right about the black suit, also he should have been bearded)

They changed it becasue WB didn't credit the designer of the BvS Batsuit so they couldn't use it anymore.

            Anonymous

That's false, Zack literally used that cowl with shittier voice module for Knightmare in ZSJL

Reason why it was changed in BvS was because 1) Batman was modding his suit to fight parademons which are tough even for him in SnyderVerse 2) to sell toys 3) he was Batman inspired by Superman (similar way Earth-1 Bruce was inspired by Superboy, Flying Fox ship is a reference guess on what?) So his Bat symbol gained S shield formation lines

Affleck's solo could have BvS costume

Sure his costume isn’t his roots exactly, but movies are a visual medium so it’s still communicating to the audience that we are returning to a more traditional understanding of the character and placing him in contemporary times.
        > It's like those Superman The Movie/Returns/&Lois "recreation" of car lift except completely perverting actual meaning.
What actual meaning are those recreations missing? It’s mostly just a fun visual for the audience, except for Superman and Lois where it’s used to reinforce that this is early in Superman’s career.

Also, love how your picture shows comic Pa explicitly telling Clark to stay hidden but use your powers to help, while MoS Pa tells Clark to hide and help people if he feels like it

Gunn had to assemble a writer's room. He had to shit out a bunch of scripts and since he's annoying and insisting on directing Superman Legacy a/k/a Superman as well as the other shit he's directing as well as Peacemaker, and whatever else he's insisting on writing, he needed to bring bodies on board.

the first two Reeve movies are good, just very dated in a way that some other classics from it's era just aren't.
    the next two just suck.
then 19 years later Singer makes a sequel to the first two movies (while rehashing the plot of the first one) instead of making something new.
Seven years later Snyder makes a reboot, retelling the origin and making Zod the villain, so in a way it's also a rehash of the first two films.
Cavill's Superman is then relegated to a glorified plot device, his sequel is taken over by Batman, Wonder Woman and then Doomsday kills him.
He spends most of the Justice League movie dead only to be resurrect later, without any meaningful interactions with rest of the League.
He later has faceless cameos because Cavill's manager (The Rock's ex-wife) convinced to ask for bigger pays.
He finally re-appears in Black Adam's post-credits scene teasing a fight that's never going to happen because the movie bombed and WB was having second thoughts about the DCEU continuing.
I'm fricking glad there's a new Superman movie free of the baggage of the shit that came before. Gunn has proven himself to do a good job with his Guardians trilogy, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.

The trailer isn't even out yet and Gunn already ruined the movie. Gotta be a new record.

Looks like something you'd buy at Spirit Halloween.

Remember when the fake suit leaked and fans were super-excited? And then when it was confirmed fake people expected something better?

I don’t know why they decided to not just show it in full. Why release such a shitty battle damaged, baggy piece of garbage? He looks like a homeless man dressed as Superman

POORLY dressed as Superman, to boot.

He thought Reddit would bend over and suck his wiener but as it turns out there’s a limit to how much of his mediocrity they can swallow

You know what bothers me the most? All the weathering/battle damage is on the torso. The pants and boots are practically spotless. This reveal is so half-baked right down to the smallest details.

Yeah I think a torn cape and ruined boots would sell the "well Imma head out again" expression

      >Collar
Locked. Even the designers for Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League knew better.
