His work as a journalist allows him to expose the kinds of corruption that it would not be acceptable for a blunt instrument like Superman to drag out.
Clark exposes Luthor for his secret crimes, and then Superman is there to stop the robot suit Luthor puts on when he's throwing a tantrum.

People are fine with the extremely powerful alien because he doesn't put himself above the law. If he just started dragging people from their homes going "no this guy is evil trust me" the public would turn on him pretty fricking fast.

Because despite what pop culture would have you believe, Superman doesn't want to be a dictator. He's a good man who wants to help people, and he knows it's easiest for him to do that when he has the people's trust and goodwill.

He doesn't, he normally fights through it, still performing feats far beyond what a human can do, you're ignorance come's from cherry picked scans where some writers use it to give a certain popular character an easy win. Superman if portrayed at full power all the time could vaporize the rock before anyone even see's it, let alone have it affect him.

In comic terms that leads to government teaming up with villeins and creating backup plans that eventually get out of control and cause more problems.

In realistic terms, nobody wants their life dictated by the whelms of a high powered god. Example could just decide guns need to be banned and you're jack shit out of luck or walk into countries forcing shaky peace.

These characters are literally vigilantes. That BY DEFINITION means that they act above the law. Every time Superman picks up a criminal and flies them to jail he is committing a dozen felonies in the process.

Someone is a moronic Tarantino fan. He isn't mocking humanity he is trying to keep his. He is human and he doesn't want to be a God. So he maintains a disguise so as to not stick out so he can live his life.

Not to mention there are plenty of comics showing the good Clark Kent has done compared to his alter ego. Clark is just as necessary as Superman. He is able to spotlight the everyday evil rather than the super villain threats.

The whole point of Superman is he helps but does not rule. He wants people to make the right choice on their own and so he tries to inspire and help as best as he can. Not even Superman can stop all crime so his best bet is to inspire and teach others not to do bad but to do the right thing.

Except he was raised as a human and the cowardly journalist is his real self. Batman does a lot more pretending with his ditzy himbo Playboy persona whilst "Batman" is a lot closer to what the person his parents' deaths turned him into.

tldr you got It backwards, Bill from Kill Bill

He was never the cowardly journalist. Sometimes they have a third identity as "Smallville" aka Clark around his loved ones and friends that know his secret. He doesn't have to be Superman and a paragon and perfect and he doesn't have to be mild mannered. He isn't a coward these days. They play up his mild manneredness.

        >demigod
the guy gets completely disabled by a green rock that literally everyone seems to have at this point what the shit are you talking about

Even Gods have weaknesses and can be killed. YWHW is a omnipotent and that is new in the realm of Gods. Every other was able to be killed and wasn't omnipotent, but flawed.

Clark VERY rarely actually accomplishes anything. There's the occasional throw away line of "remember that time Clark accomplished something", but even that is pretty rare.

        [...]
        >So superman mocks humanity by pretending to be a humble and hard working journalist who gets laid with Lois Lane? Wow thick burn Superman.
He's constantly pretending to be a bumbling, spineless, idiot. Don't go rewriting history and pretending that the Clark persona was ever meant to be some flattering idealized "everyman".

Depends on the era. Silver age maybe but original Clark was a savage.

How come a genius like him doesn't recognize they are them same person?

Superman doesn't wear a mask, so he has nothing to hide. People know his real name "Kal-EL" they don't know his real real name. It's actually a genius disguise that wasn't meant to be.

While clark goes on dates, planes are bombing hospitals, someone in his city is sticking his dick on a baby, war crimes, human traffic, enslavement, all those things happen while clark watches a movie, is moronic to take the "clark does good too" seriously, it doesn't matter is a capeshit, there's no justification for it, clark kent secret identity exist because is fun to read and provides narrative opportunities.

You are moronic or Lex Luthor if you think the point of Superman is to rule the world.

Clark goes on Dates and all that to KEEP HIS HUMANITY. As I said he needs to stay grounded. I mean frick the OP picture shows what happens when Batman get his powers and only fights crime. He goes fricking insane and thinks he is a God. And that is Batman the autist who constantly keeps rules to stop him from going over the line and he still did.

Even if Superman was 24/7 saving people he still couldn't save everyone. And he is constantly saving people when he can, remember he can save people in a split second. A lot of times people don't realize he blinked away and saved someone while living his life.

              >Even if Superman was 24/7 saving people he still couldn't save everyone.
Yes, but Little Maria wouldn't had died while Clark was watching America;s next top model, Little maria would had died while Clark was saving an hospital. Batman is human, even with powers, Clark isn't. It doesn't matter. Clark goes on dates because consumers find that fun, in universe there isn't any good reason for him to have a civilian life, you know how i know I'm right and you are moronic for believing the "is keep himself grounded? because after his parents and lois die he always go full on superman, he doesn't need it.

I realize I am either dealing with an autist or someone who is underaged and can't infer a joke. I know Lex isn't real you mongoloid it was a fricking joke.

                >Batman is human, even with powers, Clark isn't.

And again you missed the point of Superman. Batman has said multiple times Clark is the most human out of everyone. He is human he was raised as one, and has the morals of one. Kryptonians are vastly different to him in how they act.

So I am assuming if you had powers you would give up your life and only save people every waking second? In order to keep his humanity he needs to live. When you sacrifice having a life you are a robot, and robots are cold and calculating. Superman isn't God he doesn't want to be. He wants to help as much as HUMANLY possible since he views himself as one. Supergirl was a shitty show but the one thing I liked was how Superman was brainwashed with the rest of humanity since he viewed himself as human.

And going meta on the point is not what the argument is. Sure if you boil it down any motivation a hero in comics have is to sell merch or to entertain. But the idea of the thread was to in world explain why he does what he does.

Where's this moronic notion that Clark Kent is the alter ego come from. It's so dumb and completely undermines what makes Superman an admirable character. Even Garth Ennis got it. He was raised as Clark Kent. He's american. Even as Superman he's a chill, understanding even if a little smug guy. Does this stupidity come from the Reeve movies? I never watched those but it would not surprise me.

If it's from Kill Bill, I always thought Bill was meant to sound unhinged and justifying his own terrible actions, misunderstanding Superman.

He's always showing Lois Lane up, and even if he takes advantatge of his hard work, Perry thinks he's a great, dependable journalist.

The degree of clumsiness Clark pretends to not stand out varies from writer to writer, but I really don't think he's ever a laughingstock he intentionally turns himself into; he's a pretty well liked person by the likes of Lois, White and Olsen, and that's the core of the character. His adoptive parents didn't raise him to be so callous as to look above humanity's shoulder in such a smug way.

          >Where's this moronic notion that Clark Kent is the alter ego come from.
The radio show initially had it that way, and the radio show is a massive influence on the franchise.

In the very first story, Kal comes to earth as an adult after growing up in the pod. When he gets to earth, he decides to help people, so he comes up with Clark Kent so he can keep his ear to the ground for disasters, and makes Clark meek so no one suspects him of having powers. Then in the story Mechanical Man, there’s a reference that Superman is the real identity and Clark is the fake.
However, once the Scarlet Widow/Atom Man sagas come around, Clark retells the origin, but this time he was raised by farmers, and implied that Clark was before Superman and Superman is the alter ego he becomes to deal with things Clark can’t.

The radio show actually uses that concept a lot. Typically Clark/Superman faces opponents that are clever, spies, politicians, secret organizations, or otherwise threats in ways where Superman smashing things won’t do anything. If anything, the radio show emphasizes just how necessary Clark is. Superman’s only there for when he needs to make it somewhere or smash something.

Everyone knows his parents were murdered on the streets right in front of him when he was a kid, they'd just assume that the incident left him agoraphobic and/or with anxiety disorder. Modern Bruce would basically just need to make a couple of Zoom calls a week, maybe show up to a charity event and make a donation a few times a year and no one would pay him any attention. Which is why my preferred take is that he actually enjoys doing all the Bruce Wayne stuff more than he'd ever admit.

Writers should explore that. For all his brooding and shit, there is a party of him that can't let go being a normal person, even if doesn't admit it.

Being active and in the public eye makes it more implausible that Bruce is Batman. A recluse has no alibi

And who would associate? For all people know Bruce would be just an old money recluse, it doesn't equal to be weird vigilant that dresses as a bat haunting the nights. His playboy act doesn't make difference at all. If people don't take notice that
          >batman always drive his car and jet in direction of Wayne Manor
It wasn't a playboy act that will make them lost trail or make associations.

I wonder what the state thinks about Bruce Wayne adopting all these teenagers and getting half of them killed.

Yeah the Bruce Wayne alter ego was always dumb. He doesn't need to keep up appearances and that does nothing when Batman is using Billion dollar technology.

Hmm I wonder where this nutjob gets all that million dollar technology. Could it be from the billionaire that lives in the city that makes these gadgets? Nah couldn't be him the dude parties all the time during the day and Batman only comes out at night.

Batman also hires actors to play as Bruce Wayne at public events. At least that's what was shown in one of my favorite parts in Deathstroke's solo, Slade denying that Bruce could be Batman and treating them as separate people on purpose even though he knew the truth.

The main problem is Joker being massively popular. We could get new villains or cycle through at least a few others but no, it has to be all Joker all the fricking time. He has as much plot armor as Batman despite being some hobo with a gun and gas.

Is there any reason why people b***hing at no kill rule in this board only ever focus on Batman when literally every single superhero constantly spare mass murders? Captain America spared Supreme Intelligence who killed billions simply because he didn't want to execute it, Squirrel Girl spared Thanos, Superman spared Lex Luthor, Reed Richards spared Galactus, Flash spared Zoom, Spider-Man saved Carnage, the X-men spared Magneto.

The real reason is because Batman is the most well known example.

There have been a couple of Carnage stories recently where they specifically bring up killing him, then spare him, then he goes out and kills more people. But really a better example for Spider-Man would be Norman Osborn, who despite being a well-known psychotic killer and supervillain gets to walk around like normal.

Yes, and it's a very simple reason. It's because Batman riders were fricking stupid enough to try to justify Batman sparing villains in universe through some moronic pathos. When Thor spares a genocidal maniac for the 20th time the story usually just glosses over it. Only batman writers desperately scramble for some bullshit reason for why the joker can't just get thrown off a rooftop after baan narrowly stops his plan to kill millions for the 80th time

Question. Why do comic book fans INSIST on applying real world morality and logic to comic books?

It can't even be for some sort of obscure intellectual exercise because there is a 0% chance that any of this will be applicable to the real world. The questions asked in relation to the poorly thought out fictional world of comics are just absurd on their face.

Because there was 50+ odd years of comics doing whatever the frick they wanted in fantasy without a care in the world. Then came the 80s with stuff like watchmen and Dark Knight Returns which was something that was never before seen and made people start asking "who puts air in the batmobile?" From there it has just been downward slide for more realism.

I don't know if it's been studied but there seems to be some weird phenomena where a person who spends all of their time in escapism comes to demand it be closer to reality instead of just accepting it as a bit of fun in between working themselves to death like normal people do.

They'll never accept the idea that superman is just a regular guy that wants to do regular guy things for the same reason they will never accept any other immigrant.
The "oh they just need to assimilate" rhetoric is just a smokescreen. Truth is that when the person does assimilate, these buttholes think that deep down that immigrant is still the "other" that's stealing from them and only pretending. Anons getting mad at Superman is just an example of that.

That's because Bruce Wayne's shallow socialite public image is the complete opposite of Batman's hyper focused soldier mind and is a calculated front, while Superman and Clark have very similar personalities because Superman has been Clark for most of his life and still is among friends, family and coworkers.
