It's because it's sourced from the fricking awful "remaster" that adds vaseline smear to everything. Pic related is from the 2015 Lionsgate release that doesn't have that.

the image was naturally soft to begin with, Cameron's 4K "remaster" was a rotoscoped 3D affair
look at how he literally looks cut out from the background like it's a badly matted effects shot, the old version didn't look like that

The truck explosion hits various regions of space in an intermittent and instantaneous fashion. Such explosions cause metal parts to fly apart and sustain damage, not to be totally destroyed or reduced to pure raw material. The wreckage is left over. A T-1000 so damaged can reconstitute itself without too much trouble, provided that there are regions of sufficiently low temperature.

The lava bath is a SUSTAINED, EXTREMELY HOT environment which overloads the T-1000's physical capacity to reconstitute itself, as shown. All of this is intuitively obvious just by watching the movie, jesus.

said it better and more succinctly than me.

      >send people back 2 hours before every battle with battle reports so the machines can create perfect battle strategy
That's no guarantee of victory. The second they 'counter' the humans first expected move, they've changed history and have no way of predicting how the humans are going to act next.

Theoretically yes they could keep sending machines back again and again and again and again to counter every single strategic & tactical move the humans ever make but one has to assume there's some kind of limitation on how much the machines can abuse time travel.

The machines had already nearly lost the war. They needed a slam dunk with a single time travel mission.

True time travel would mean you basically have save states, true, but then you don't have a movie that anyone would watch

I think that sending people back was like Manhattan project level of difficulty and resource strain on Skynet and the only reason humans were able is because they risked a special attack to capture the Skynet time travel facility with heavy casualties
      that's my headcanon anyway

Heat resistant, not heat proof. The explosion was a relatively short duration of heat exposure. Immersed in lava on the other hand (it's been a while, wasn't it molten steel or similar?) would be constant application of damaging heat defeating the resistant properties. This is the way.

Why couldn't Silberman ever just admit that he was absolutely fricking wrong and that Sarah was absolutely god-damn right? Even in T3 he still keeps up the charade but then more extraordinary evidence presents itself yet again.

Actually I could see how something brief like the cage gag could be rationalized later on as some trick of the light. But that's certainly not how the character interprets it in the take, in the moment. It definitely left an impression on him, even if he later dismisses it as some trick or hallucination. When you're running the looney bin, you know enough about the looney bin to know that you don't want to end up in there yourself. So you don't admit to seeing such things.

It’s a foundry that melts various metals and then pours them out to cool into beams and stuff. It turned him into permanent melted metal but I’ve always wondered if he would return to his final form when they poured the liquid metal out to cool or if super heat somehow destroyed him.

Its fairly safe to assume that the extreme high heat and duration destroyed him

It's just like the World Trade Center Collapse. The explosion didn't cause the the collapse. The right amount of heat applied to interior steel connecting trusses compromised the structure into a delayed cascade of failures!

That truck explosion was just fire. Molten metal is MUCH hotter, and when he melts, his liquid body mixes with the liquid steel and can't reform. It's one of the few ways to kill him.

But in reality, they fricked up when he was frozen and smashed into a thousand pieces. If they had just kept the pieces separated, he could not have reformed into anything big enough to do any harm. But they just stood there and watched the pieces of him pool together and reform like morons.

I'm not sure the T-1000 was exposed to liquid nitrogen long enough to become brittle. While he is immersed in a substantial volume of liquid nitrogen, the duration of being exposed to the liquid nitrogen is rather brief and may not have been enough to freeze a being who can turn into liquid metal.

with the molten steel it has nowhere to go and can't reform
