I tried to watch tennet twice and never got past them on the boat. It's a horrible movie.
Totally got filtered, yes. It's way too complicated for the average joe.

It's incredibly stupid. The time travel rules make no sense and are inconsistent throughout the film.

What does it add? Neil being the son of tall woman who then travels forward in time normally until his older, then travels forward/backwards with Protagonist as Neil, before going backwards to concurrent with when he is a child to the events of Tenet, the first point of this timeline adds nothing to the narrative. Neil "lying" about his name is a contrivance, Max is not in any danger during the film aside from losing his mum so neil doesn't need to protect "himself", Max's role in the narrative is a plot device for tall woman.
The black guy is a horrible actor and was terribly miscast xahm2

My take on it is that they didn't. The same group running "tenet" (aka the protagonist) was also the group giving sator the gold. The "algorithm" did nothing and was just some fancy hunks of metal.

So when Neil goes, this is the end of a beautiful friendship, he knows Protagonist but never lets on that he does? So Protagonist will meet young Max, befriend him, then send him back in time to die. What the frick kind of friend is that.
for the fatherfricking time, Neil isn't Max. Neil literally tells Denzel jr that he is the one that needs to go back and recruit him in the past
