yes, people who read and are more selective with their tastes in regards to what media they indulge in are better and smarter than the average person who stays in a comfort bubble like peter pan millennials.

Ok so why are you here if by your own admission television is an inferior art form and your time can be better spent reading? >inb4 im just here to laugh at you etc etc
ok so your high art literary view has made you an butthole then, Id rather be pleb 'n proud.
television is terrible, but old movies are pretty good and can reach the heights of good literature. some miniseries are excellent like heimat, berlin alexanderplatz, world on a wire, the prisoner.
rivette, bresson, rohmer, eustache, tarkovsky, jancso, and vlacil come to mind as greats.
anime has no depth to it. even the "good" stuff like old movies are all flash. the equivalent of keys jangling in front of babies. there's nothing about the human condition, life and death, triumph over great struggles. nothing that will age alongside you. no stories or characters to reflect on. i think the closest anime has and ever will get to genuine artistry is with angels egg and grave of fireflies. even still i don't think they are very good films in a vacuum, just better than everything else.
you moved the goalpost without ansering the question. This is not a thread for an old movie, the threads for old movies and /film/ are the overwhelming statistical minority. Youre really just a pseudointellectual.
You just have to lower your standards and adapt bro. Otherwise you won´t be able to enjoy anything. I mean, you are not deluded enough to think stuff like that is ever coming back right? It´s the same for regular movies, tv shows, games, music and every single piece of contemporary media too to be honest.
The only way something like this would be made today would be if the studio making it purposely wanted to burn money AKA not worrying about being profitable. You know, thorough the history of media creation the keys have always been passion meeting skill and a completely YOLO mind set.
Nobody wanted to produce the original SW film. Lucas pretty much founded ILM himself with the money from American Graffiti (there was maybe one guy that recognized his talent and helped get extra financing but that´s it. Everyone else in Hollywood thought he was nuts and that his project was impossible).
Walt Disney was consistently harassed with lawsuits of studios trying to drive him out of the business but he wouldn´t give up. If anything that drove him to stand his ground even harder. Him and Ub Iwerks would have completely gone bankrupt on that pursuit if Walt´s brother had not been keeping the books.
That´s the kind of thing it took then and it´s the kind of thing it would take now. Quality can´t be done cheaply but why bother in taking those risks only to lose against the generic isekai of the season?

I love Cowboy Bebop, but other anime never really entertained me much. However, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was fricking great.

I'm assuming you're 16-20 years old. Otherwise this is really embarrassing for you.
