Because so many people feel like him. They feel they could have achieved more with their life (sometimes justifiably) than working some cubicle job. Jim doesn’t hate Dwight- he hates himself for landing himself at a desk opposite Dwight. The catharsis Jim provides through his tepid pranks (which would get most people fired IRL) gets them through the day. The problem with Jim is if he feels so much that his work is beneath him, where is the evidence to support that feeling? Every time he makes his smug smile to the camera I think “these people are not lesser than you! They’re your equals! They’re your peers you underachieving loser!”
Yeah. The writers know this too. Most of the characters don’t like Jim

I don’t feel like Jim. Jim is a homosexual that personifies what’s wrong with entitled western morons.
Women can relate to him because he has a feminine personality. Women also like Michael because he acts like a middle aged women permanently experiencing a flash of menopause. You can actually watch the characters lean into this more as seasons progress and it clearly became evident to the writers that it's mostly women who love their show
He's likable enough initially whereas Michael and Dwight are bigger buttholes initially. Then over time they get their character arcs and Michael turns from ignorant butthole to well meaning but awkward geek and Dwight goes from combative butthole to odd but honest goofball. As such it seems like Jim is picking on people for no reason other than being mean spirited
It's a boring show for boring people who gravitate to the lowest tier of character writing

This, while Dwight's behavior was annoying what really pissed Jim off was that this raging autist who Jim considered "beneath" him was at worst an equally capable salesman (and at best, superior, which was even worse). Also worth noting is that apart from his quickly retconned roommate Jim is never depicted as having any friends whatsoever. There's one Valentines episode where he keeps claiming he's going to play poker with friends and it legitimately keeps sounding like something someone from Cinemaphile would say to try and trick his coworkers into thinking he has a life outside of work.
