      >the worst two decades in the 20th century
literally nothing, but the de evolution of music, AIDS, the drug war, and cultural decline. even the great depression wasn't that shitty, only like 100 people died.

80s and 90s were the last eras of what seemed to be general upward trends in peace and prosperity. It also saw the humiliating collapse of our most hated enemy and their disgusting ideology. In the media, it was a more ambitious era than the 2000s and 2010s, let alone the 2020s.

Politics aside, I think I’d rather have put up with the ‘80s and ‘90s than had a high chance of dying in WWI or being in poverty during the great depression.

The 60s were pretty horrible, too, and the 50s weren't great if you got conscripted to fight in Korea.

That just meant some other poorgay would get conscripted. That whole affair got worse during Vietnam, where rich pinkos hid in college making a C- average on their dad's money while the government put idiots in charge of the war and drafted literal morons. McNamara should have been publicly crucified in Times Square.

Fair enough, but you still think the 80s and 90s were worse than the 30s? In America?

right now in my country I discovered there's an impressive number of zoomers who dress up like emo / melodic hardcore fans from the late 90s

Give them the true emo experience by having all the wannabe punks start a mosh pit as an excuse to punch and kick them.

oh that's the fun thing, they jump into the pit themselves. the zoomies don't seem to compute the divisions of old.

    >Was that a thing that ever actually existed?
Yeah. They do this for all decades, too, from the '20s onward notably the '60s, '70s, and '80s (though they probably wouldn't have done it when Daria was still airing). The prevailing theory of how this tradition got started is during the '70s when there was prevalent nostalgia for '50s pop culture with TV and film like Happy Days, Grease, and American Graffiti. Kids back then would emulate the era and dress up in their parents old clothes that they still had around. I remember when I was still in grade school, they'd have '50s-themed sock-hops and ice cream socials.

The biggest irony soon kids will be doing this for the '90s dressing up as Daria herself.

Rockabilly, big band revival, and ballroom dancing all had overlapping moments in the 90s. The Cherry Poppin Daddies and Brian Setzer, two acts who both relied on re-interpreting music made popular 70 years ago, were signed to the same Warped Tour shows as Rancid and Kid Rock.
