Based on how he's been described and how he acts... I think he's doing exactly what he was programmed to do, but that the situation is not what he was programmed to handle. Wacky hi-jinks and adventures are all well and good as a brief escape from one's normal life, especially if one has agency over the situation. I think that's Caine's intended role, as the host of what is essentially VR Circus. Not to be the long-term caretaker for stranded human minds.

Im the guy who made the honestly really far-fetched theory that the digital circus has existed far longer than since VR was a thing. It's just that VR has made it easier to access and manipulate. Like maybe the Void and some pre-circus world in it has always existed and it wasn't until VR technology that people could manipulate and make things there. I also thought the Kinger has been here for centuries and was an actual King before being taken there.
I know it's what draws in all crowds with their theory discussion and youtube essays and whatnot, but I hope the show doesn't spend too much time on the whole "what's behind the curtain" deepest lore mystery stuff. The best parts of the pilot in my opinion are just the kind of sitcommy interactions between the characters. I wanna just have episodes focused on each of them, maybe going vaguely into who they were before getting stuck, and studying how each individual is dealing mentally with the situation.

From what I have seen the murder drones setting is way to early. Before the War of the Men of Iron (fancy name for robots) humanity ruled as a hyper advanced race that controlled millions of planets and had super weapons that could vaporize stars. For reference the war began around 23,000 AD and lasted centuries I think. In the aftermath of victory humanity was left broken and damaged. To add insult to injury the Chaos God Slannesh was born at that time which prevented any space travel, which fricked over humanity across the galaxy.
Conclusion is all humans are very robophobic, except the mechanicus, who has a weird love hate relationship with machinery.
