"The Beach" wasn't a masterpiece, and that's because of casting Leo. It was made right after "Titanic", the biggest movie ever at the time, with a massive female audience. They forced Boyle to milk this fact and that's how we got the dumb romance plot, the moronic normie scenes in what would otherwise be recognized as pure kino and Boyle's best film.

it's a fun and strangely memorable flick but I don't think it was ever hailed as a masterpiece

It's being tested lately on Cinemaphile. Maybe because it really makes you feel the rift between the year 2000 and now.

The original actor was Ewan McGregor. He was the person who told Boyle about the book. He meant the protagonist to be him kek Hollywood pigs took that from him.

Didn't this movir trash and frick up the beach it was filmed on? Or was it the moron fans who went and trashed it after the film came out?

Bit of both. The coral was dead, but there were a decent number of fish. The water was clear and i could see straight to the botton.

        The beach was v clean.

        >Advance booking is required. No more than 375 people are allowed at any one time. No more boats in the bay, either. Instead, there's a purpose-built dock on the other side of the island to drop passengers, who then take a short walk through the jungle to the crescent shaped beach.

Tourism and internet was a mistake. Normies always destroying something. No need to expend energy to find something. Take a boat and be annoyed at everybody just because you can see the "thing" and take some pictures.
