he hired a lawyer who looked into his and found out he unknowingly signed a conservatorship over to whitey, he thought he was legally adopted but he was not

imagine being lied to thinking you were adopted as a member of their family but instead were lied to and signed a conservatorship instead

there is literally NO reason for someone who isn't a braindead moron to sign a conservatorship other than to be taken advantage of

        Anonymous

The supposed reason is that the school didn't want him to live with them unless he was a part of the family and that's the only way they could make the school happy

It was because he was 18. You can't adopt an adult. The conservatorship was necessary due to football related recruitment reasons because the dad was an Ole Miss booster

          Anonymous

Yes you can. In Tennessee adult adoption is legal. The purpose of the conservatorship was to allow them to facilitate payments to him from the school.

          Anonymous

no, they took in a highly touted football prospect so he would go play at their favorite university
These people give millions of dollars to the Ole Miss athletic program. Apparently, they're the main reasons Hugh Freeze was picked as head coach (Hugh Freeze was the high school coach in the story, but got hired by Ole Miss as soon as Michael Oher went there)

            Anonymous

They were heavily involved in making payments to potential recruits of which Michael was one. He's no more guilty there of giving him money than he is of taking it.

During this time Ole Miss went from being like 50th ranked in the country in recruiting to top 10 and even top 5 in some cases. Hugh Freeze was corrupt as frick and still is but he did beat Bama twice in B2B years. Having multiple wins against Saban is very, VERY rare in college football. There's like...less than 5 people who can say that lol.

That isn't what happened. That's what he's claiming happened. Apparently he's tried this before with several lawyers who have all dropped him when they realized he had no case. This isn't weasel talk. The things he's saying, and they're saying, are easily proven/disproven.

The reason they didn't adopt him is because there $200 million estate would have been up for grabs if they had. They shared all the money with him, and when he refused to cash the checks they deposited it into a trust for his son.

They definitely facilitated him getting paid to go to Ole Miss but that's because Ole Miss is one of the most corrupt schools in the country (or was back then). https://www.bannersociety.com/2014/4/10/20703758/bag-man-paying-college-football-players

Ahh I see, I see. If they told him they earned a flat fee and shared the fee and that was it, then yeh there's no case. If they told him there's a flat fee and shared that fee, but then received royalties after the fact, and didn't give him that cash, I can see grounds for a case. They claim there's proof that he deposited checks they've given him over the years, so if so, he's screwed. I don't know why they'd deposit his checks into their son's trust fund, even if he apparently refused to accept them though. And why would the conservatorship still be in effect after all these years?

the husband and wife should be NFL scouts if they knew that homeless high schooler would make millions in the NFL and make that book and movie happen

he didn't start football fresh in 12th grade though

            Anonymous

They deposited checks into Oher’s son’s trust fund, not the Tuohy son trust fund. He really has no case. The lawyer who took his case is just cleaning out whatever’s left in his wallet. He’ll be working at Taco Bell in no time at all.

In his statement, Singer said agents for Michael Lewis, author of the bestselling book that became "The Blind Side," negotiated a deal in which the Tuohy family "received a small advance from the production company and a tiny percentage of net profits."

"They insisted that any money received be divided equally. And they have made good on that pledge," the statement said. "The evidence -- documented in profit participation checks and studio accounting statements -- is clear: over the years, the Tuohys have given Mr. Oher an equal cut of every penny received from 'The Blind Side.' Even recently, when Mr. Oher started to threaten them about what he would do unless they paid him an eight-figure windfall, and, as part of that shakedown effort refused to cash the small profit checks from the Tuohys, they still deposited Mr. Oher's equal share into a trust account they set up for his son."

Singer's statement said Oher "has actually attempted to run this play several times before -- but it seems that numerous other lawyers stopped representing him once they saw the evidence and learned the truth. Sadly, Mr. Oher has finally found a willing enabler and filed this ludicrous lawsuit as a cynical attempt to drum up attention in the middle of his latest book tour."

In his court petition, Oher asks for a judge to terminate the conservatorship granted to the Tuohys in August 2004 and also a full accounting of the money the Tuohys earned using Oher's name, and to have the couple pay him his fair share of profits, as well as unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

Singer said the family will not oppose the termination of their guardianship but "will not hesitate to defend their good names, stand up to this shakedown and defeat this offensive lawsuit."
